Another solidly written plotline, and a continuation into the universe of the Hunger Games. In addition to the dilemma of kill-or-be-killed, the story becomes steadily more political. Some of the hows, whys, and histories are unfolded into a disturbingly believable scenario. The character development moves along at the pace of events, which doesn't leave you with a lot of easy opportunities to put the book down.

This book lacked the shock factor of the first one. Once you've read what the Hunger Games are and come to grips with the horror of them, you're not shocked by them in the second book. The fact that the kids have to go back is also not shock worthy, so the story line (in that regard) did not wow me, nor compel me to keep reading.

Some heart-breaking events at this point, but I liked the allies of the game and how that moved the plot forward. I did feel like much of the book was redundant, having just finished The Hunger Games, but that is in part due to the games being an annual event. It did have a few surprises, but they were not as memorable to be in this second book of the series.
