A story about a young English woman in Malay during WWII and during the aftermath of the war. Part hero saga, part love story, this book kept me interested until the end. I thought for the first part of the book the third person narration was a bad choice but by the end I realized it was a key part of the story. Shute gives a lot of detail in his writing. This is sometimes frustrating to the reader but it does make the story seem real.
