What Members Thought

I liked the audio version - the voice did the characters well.
Didn't think I would keep on with it, at first, but it did grab me soon enough that I was too far gone to look back.
The ending? I read on one of the group discussions that the 'why' of it ending that way was puzzling.
Nope - not for me - I understand how she felt. She was a big, gawky, awkward girl who knew that being with him forever would be a problem. She would always feel she was with a terribly cute fella and know that people woul ...more

This book has to be the realist book that I have read in the Young Adult genre. It not only catches what it is like children to grow up in a poor area, she touches on subjects a lot of writers shy away from.

I didn't want to finish this book! I wasn't ready yet to say good-bye to Park or to Eleanor. Their story felt so real and it makes my heart heavy just thinking about it now. This story makes me long for that kind of love that feels like it can fix anything. That innocent love. Eleanor's world needed Park & Park needed Eleanor to challenge him to really live in his world as well.

WHY.

4.5 stars
Eleanor and Park are amazing characters! They're fleshed out and don't fit into any norm. They're real, complicated human beings.
Rainbow Rowell's story is sweet, funny, sad, romantic, and heartbreaking with an undercurrent of tension. I loved the alternating perspectives.
I really, really enjoyed this book.
As Eleanor said, it's the hope that kills. So true! My heart is still recuperating.

Spoilers:
I liked it. I am glad that it did not have a predicable ending and it had just the right amount of tension. I cried. I also agree that I did not want to give it up but I think that is what I really liked about the story is that it left you wanting to hear more. I am also very very happy that Park did not stoop to the other man's level even though he was so tempted. ...more

I can't help feeling that aside from being below poverty level with an abusive home life, I could have been Eleanor. She'd only have been a year younger than me and I was definitely a misfit, but I didn't have a Park in High School. I was very much drawn to both characters so I was drawn into the book. A very fast read for me, one day. I am enjoying YA more and more. I was touched by this story and think I will remember it for a long time. As is becoming quite the norm with books now a days, the

I am literally a certifable, crying snot nose mess after reading this. This book made me feel too many feelings.
I entirely see myself as Eleanor, (Minus the beautiful Asian boy falling in love with me) which is probably why this had such an impact on me.
Yet another book that supplies me with unrealistic expectations about relationships, but fantasy can be better than reality. I just hope my falling in love will be a half of what happened between Eleanor and Park.

Eleanor & Park wasn't what I was expecting after reading Fangirl.
It was equal parts sad and hopeful, dreamy and sharp with reality. It had wit, it had heart break, and it had a voice that should be heard.
I loved it.
