So disappointed. I just could not get excited about this story. It just fell flat for me. Now that is not to say that I was not enamored by Amor Towles writing and his way of putting a sentence together. His deft manner of description and his ability of placing you right there in the room he is writing about - this he manages to do like few others. But when you cannot connect to the plot or story it takes the enjoyability out of the book, regardless of the dynamic presentation.

True confession: I had a hard time getting into Gentleman From Moscow, which is why I hesitated to read Towles' first book, but I'm so glad I didn't let that get in my way. I just loved Rules of Civility, and now I wonder if my impression of GfM had more to do with me and where my head was at or perhaps I was resisting all the hype? Anyway, there's so much to admire about his writing, his rich and detailed evocation of pre-war Manhattan, and the insights about life and human behavior that are sp
