I read the book and I was horrified of finding out...once again...how sick this world is. :| I do try not to blame Megan, even though she had many chances to escape. I believe her fear. But I cannot hide my hate for the one she called a ''mother''. I can't believe her mom was in Greece, close to her, and in all those years she just saw her once. Really ? what mother would accept that and not question everything?

quite agree i had the impression that the mother sort of washed her hands of her and Megan most of her life had been left to her own devices

I must say, that initially felt the same way, and not to say what she did was right either, but something regarding Megan's "problem child teenage behavior and the fact that clearly she came from a totally dysfunctional household (where she could not be honest with her mom and never experienced love but instead neglect) leads me to kind of understanding how this whole thing snowballed into this mess. Instead of blaming the victims, I do think that instead the actual perpetrators should be blamed starting with Jak. I found it astonishing how she still after the whole thing was over, could not see that Jak never loved her. Then again was as a result of how she was moulded by fear and a life long search for love.
