Kind of an old question, but if you're still looking for an answer: there's one particular scene that's pretty gory (in a very surrealist sort of way, the thing being part of a dream sequence), but otherwise... not that much? There are some mentions of gross stuff happening (the main character IS getting eaten by a bear after all), but for the most part it's all off-screen. The fact that the narrator is generally doesn't seem to care makes the whole thing seems much less horrific than it could potentially be!
