oooh boy I just finished the first volume and it was interesting but I'm not sure I can keep going. Is it worth it? The word that comes to mind in the first volume is 'ridiculous'. Ridiculous in the sense that the main character is crazy and half of what is written is literally crazy talk. My favorite part are the stories from the people with whom they cross paths...

Agree with your view of the book. I enjoyed the humor of the people he crossed paths with. I wonder today what would have been his diagnosis or Cervantes?

part 2 is better than part one. and i dont think he is really crazy. its ambiguous and up to the reader, gets into that more in part 2

I read it because it's part of the western civ lit canon and referred to by so many writers, much like the Iliad. Yes, ridiculous. I am a student of the Conquista/Spanish Empire period and in reality, I don't think Don Quixote would have been allowed to do what he did by the society he lived in at the time. However, Saavedra was a contemporary of Shakespeare and he is writing a comedy/tragedy/morality tale and social commentary it a form that we would recognize as a situation comedy today.
