How do we know the Quran is the authentic word of Allah?

AAO 1) The divine vow
The most important way we can be sure that the Quran is authentic is the fact that when Allah (God; “The God; used by Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews as well as by Muslims) revealed the Quran, He pledged to preserve it.

It is We Who have sent down the remembrance (i.e., the Quran) and surely, We will guard it from corruption. (15:9)

Consistently…the question of its divinity is posed as a challenge in the Quran itself…a feat itself.

2) The documented continuous chain of historical record
A written record IN ADDITION TO the Arabic tradition of memorizing literature.

In the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) the Arabs, were masters of the spoken word. Their poetry and prose was considered outstanding, and a model of literary excellence. The choice of Muhammad, illiterate, yet from a highly respected, reputable family, itself...the choice itself, is noteworthy for its supernatural implication. Some of his cousins were literate but he himself happened not to ever have been. He was very well-known though vulnerable because both his parents died in his childhood, people knew his character very well, it's a testament to him that with all the nefarious intentions and misinterpretations his record is still remarkably (REMARKABLY) clean.

When Prophet Muhammad recited the Quran the words of God the Arabs were moved tremendously by its sublime tone, eloquence, and extraordinary beauty. The Quran was Prophet Muhammad’s miracle from God. He’d shown signs as a child. As he recited trustworthy scribes wrote down the revelation, among them is Uthman ibn Affan (the only person in any of the Abrahamic faiths to have married two daughters of prophets). Another of them is Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan, who like Uthman went on to become Caliph. It’s noteworthy that these people weren’t authoritarian figures, privileged from labor, but true servants of the faith. The revelation was, from what we know, similar to a fleeting fit of epilepsy or turret syndrome tic, people around the Prophet peace and blessing be upon him and his companions began to memorize and circulate copies of passages. Stop and think about this being the seventh century and here you have an intellectual organized movement, made up of people who were exceptional in their intellectual insight, lead by an illiterate orphan. The Quran was a banned book when it was first published in Makkah. From that time, people began chains of memorization traced back to the revelation. Until today there are people who memorize the Quran with direct chains of memorization that span back to the Prophet peace be upon him, himself.

The Quran wasn’t just a big part of the faith, it was “The Message

Prophet Muhammad himself supervised the memorization and writing of the Quran. The preservation of Quran was also a major priority for the four men whom Allah SWT had destined to follow Muhammad as leaders of the Muslim nation. It seems fantastical and frankly it is, but that’s just what happened. Generation upon generation, one after the other, went to great lengths to preserve the verses of the Quran verbatim, exactly as they were revealed. This process is called Tawatur in the Arabic language. It means that historical continuity and perpetuation is achieved by transfer from one generation to the next.

What is implied is that so many iterations became available that a contradiction, had there been one, would have arisen. People in each generation conveyed it with a trail so that there can be no doubt about its authenticity. Quran was not transmitted by a handful of people in one generation to a few persons in the next. It was passed by each entire generation to the next generation. It’s a formal process like contract documentation.

3) Modern discoveries in the Qur’an
The Quran is a book of religion but so much more, a legal document, a scientific document etc. One of the Quran’s most remarkable qualities and another reason for believing its authenticity is the complete consistency between the Quran and many of the discoveries of modern science. The Quran even pre-empts facts only discovered in the last 50 years or less. There has been many many well respected, scientifically accomplished scientists and experts who have testified to its authenticity from all kinds of backgrounds

Dr. Emeritus Keith L. Moore (Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Canada) on biological details mentioned in the seventh century in the Quran

Dr. E. Marshall Johnoson (Professor of Developmental Biology, USA) on the staggering word choice used for biological facts in the Quran

Allison Ralph (Pete) Palmer an American paleontologist and geologist, still a researcher University of Colorado Boulder on the fixture of mountains though they move (the seventh century?!)

countless others.

for example, Dr. Maurice Bucaille, a French medical doctor specializing in gastroenterology had the following words to say about the scientific information contained in Quran.

“it is not only free from contradictions in its narrations, but provides a quality all of its own for those who examine it objectively and in the light of science, i.e., its complete agreement with modern scientific data.

What is more, statements are to be found in it (as has been shown) that are connected with science: and yet it is unthinkable that a man of Muhammad’s time could have been the author of them.

Modern scientific knowledge therefore allows us to understand certain verses of the Quran which, until now, it has been impossible to interpret.

Mountains were cited as to be moving in the Book of Books long before the earth was to have been know to be revolving for example.

The Quran used by more than 1.5 billion Muslims throughout the world today is known as the Uthmani Quran. It was compiled by the third leader of the Islamic nation, Uthman ibn Affan, and copies were distributed throughout the Caliphate. Each book is a copy of the original and it is believed that two of these original copies exist to this day in Turkey and Uzbekistan. I should point that this happened very organically. Uthman was not predisposed to collect the Quran and issue an official copy (this was the seventh century after all). What happened was that with the expansion of the Islamic Ummah, people in other continents and regions demanded an official version because they didn’t want even the semblance of disunity. No civilization in human history adhered so systematically to a unified code within a region that was more than half the known world before then. We’re lucky that that happened, especially considering how malignant we see people are even modernly

The recent British discovery is dated to that period:

I personally compared the version in the image to the commercially published version and they are identical. The words of Qur’an have remained unchanged. Over the centuries Muslims and non-Muslims alike have examined copies of Quran more than 1000 years old. They found that they are all identical, apart from the introduction of vowel marks in the 7th century CE. These marks were introduced to further guard the authenticity of Quran by demanding strict adherence to pronunciation rules. The fact that that history is also well documented solidifies my conclusion.

4) Readership judgement
Read it yourself. It encourages that struggle, and is meant for a thoughtful, carefully examining reading. Consider the distinction. I’ve read thoughtless comments here about things that are rather self-evident, for example ‘the repetitions in the Quran, those seem the same but are always qualified, not merely in the text but also in the reading that confirms the veracity of the text at least, because repeating the story sometimes is a way to solidify authenticity (is the new instance consistent with the previous one?), but there is so much that indicates that whatever the book is (…a portal?...), it’s unlike anything a human (or armies of humans) could produce, the information, the consistency, the advanced, divine knowledge…personally, I read voraciously in the technical meaning of the word (there is a specific number of books), and for me it’s staggering that there’s any hesitation, some readers can tell a book from the first sentence, but this book is different, the language, the language, the specificity, the detail, so regal, incredible.deep, deep, deep.it really does humble you, it really really does.
