Natasha asked Dan Smith:

How long does it usually take for you to fully plan each book you write? Do you create your characters first, or the plot?

Dan Smith I'm not really much of a planner. Whenever I try to plan a novel I usually end up not wanting to write it because I already know everything that's going to happen! I guess my first draft is my plan - that's my version of telling myself the story. It usually takes me a few months to write the first draft, then I work on the detail and flesh out the characters.
