Well researched and a work of love, it is one of those rare books that packs so much punch and details within such a small no of pages. It is a fantastic history of the Indian subcontinent and to an extent Peris and Afghanistan right from the time of Babur to Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Woven between this is the fantastic account of one of the most famous diamonds in the world. Fairly detailed the author leaves out the mythical aspects of the diamond including its origins. It is miles ahead of a similarly titled book by William Dalrymple which by comparison seems to be a hastily written below average attempt at writing the story of this famous diamond.
