bookshelves: kiddiwinx, thanks-for-prezzies

how great is ariel?? ariel is exactly this great:

i had never read this series, but had always wanted to. so ariel straight up mailed it to me! like santa! in june!

ariel, i have also always wanted a choker made of rubies and emeralds and sweet sweet diamonds.

while i am waiting for that,i will write a review for this book. obviously, there are going to be comparisons to that narnia series - british siblings shuttled off to a spooky house with secret passageways behind a wardrobe with an eccentric older relative and some christian mythology thrown in for funs.

but.

even better than narnia, this reminded me of my very favorite series of children's books by peggy parish (but not her amelia bedelia stuff - that just paid the rent). the better series of books were the ones featuring liza, jed, and bill (the only twins that are not evil). they had the best relatives who were always leaving them mysteries to solve in the form of secret notes and clues and maps and little carved wooden toys.... i believe i read all of them, but reading this made me want to read them all again and cross fingers that there was one i missed so i can go back and have an all new exciting adventure with my favorite detectives!!

but i will finish this series, too, naturally.

thank you ariel. i will go run to mailbox now.
jewels!! they come!!

Eh?Eh! Are you reading through the series, a mid-Proust snack?

karen no, i only brought one volume with me,for the train ride, but i have them all at home. i will read them soon - i am very excited to have them.

karen yes! i am totally going to write a review when i can tear myself away from twilight

Aerin Ariel is like a fairy godmother, in a way.

<--- happy

karen i kind of wish i had packed one more volume with me so i could continue right now. but, alas, i only have two more books to read this weekend...

message 8: by Greg (new)

Greg Which are the other two books you brought with you?

I should say this on your other thread, but there is a corrugated up on the second floor of your new favorite series, you can check it out when you get back and get the next book from it so you don't have to wait till Thursday to see Dana.

karen well, i brought proust, horse rape, gay murder, twilight, and the above book.

i should finish gay murder today on the train maybe? and begin horse rape tomorrow. then i read a bill thompson book, maybe cows, and then return to proust.

in case anyone was wondering.

message 10: by Greg (new)

Greg I was wondering.

I'm looking forward to hearing about Horse Rape. I might have to borrow that from you when you are done.

karen pshhh - go to the feed store and get your own!

Jasmine bill thompson?

karen yeah - a book he sent me from canada that he wants me to read.

i will read it.

message 14: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine who is he?

message 15: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine ... oh is he just a person not an author. never mind.

karen "just"

poor bill thompson.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Paul: What IS that?

Ariel: Srsly? You never saw a unicorn crossing before?

karen sheltered.

Mariel I freaking LOVE this series.

karen i have to read the rest of them - they are all under my desk in a charming little box set...

Mariel I don't love the first one like I love the others. So so so much.

karen oh, man - you temptress - now i must read them immediately.

Mariel Yay!

Jesper to be honest, i found the first book of the series pretty dull and long-drawn... so i really hesitate reading the last four, when there's so much more significantly better books out there...

message 25: by Mir (new) - rated it 4 stars

I thought the second book was the best of the whole series, so if you try that and don't like it I would give up.

karen but he gave it four stars!

Jesper i did... it was okay in a way... and i will read the last 4 as well... it just had its downsides in places... some books do, but that does not mean they're not worth the effort. first time i read for example Lord of the rings, i was not impressed... now, 25 years later i've worn out two sets and is on my third :-) i always give an extra star anyway, for the authors effort and imagination :-)

message 32: by Mir (new) - rated it 4 stars
