Second Read March 2018

I re-read this in anticipation for the Queen of Air and Darkness release (!!!). The last time read Lady Midnight two years ago, so a lot of things I forgot and it was so terrific that I raised my rating from four stars to FIVE STARS.

“Everyone is more than one thing, said Kieran. “We are more than single actions we undertake, whether they be good or evil.

SPOLERS BELOW

A big underlying issue in this book is the prejudice and cruelty of the Clave. No matter who they put in charge and no matter who speaks out about the way they run things, they will not change. As they say: Sed lexa, dura lexa. The law is hard, but it is the law.

“We expect betrayal from our enemies. Not from those who are supposed to care for us.

“Careful, boy, rumbled Gwyn. “You have your Laws and we have ours. The difference is only that we do not pretend ours are not cruel.

Emma believes knows that her parents were not killed by Sebastian Morgenstern (why are we still calling him Sebastian??). She tells the Clave this and has evidence and her theory makes sense. But do they listen to her?? Nope, nope. They turned their back on her, so Emma took matters into her own hands.

Revenge is a cold bedfellow, Diana had said, but Emma didn’t believe that. Revenge would give her the air back in her lungs. Revenge would let her think about her parents without a cold knot forming in her stomach.

Solving the mystery of her parents death and avenging them is important to Emma. Her need for revenge starts to eat at her and the closer she got to answers the more she realises that it won't bring her parents back.

Emma envied Cristina her faith. Sometimes she thought the only things she had faith in were revenge and Julian.

Emma's personality reminds me so much of Jace. The impulsiveness and their demeanor is so alike.

Malcolm looked warily at her. “She may be dangerous, he said to Julian. “Then again, all women are dangerous.

I loved that Cassie has flipped the bad-boy/good-girl trope around. Emma is reckless and Julian is responsible. (I wouldn't call him a good-boy because he does have a dark side)

A gentle boy with a gentle soul, but every soul contains its own opposite, and the opposite of gentleness was ruthlessness—the beautiful wreckage of mercy.

The love and attraction between these two is so intense and palpable. And my heart hurts for them both, especially all the times they each thought their love was unrequited.

These pictures are my heart. And if my heart was a canvas, every square inch of it would be painted over with you. ...

Julian is so completely different to any of Cassie's other male love interests. From a young age he had such a huge responsibility to bear and instead of asking someone older or asking for help HE DID E V E R Y T H I N G for his family. He made sure they knew he would always be there, that they would be fine. That they would be loved. That they would stay together. That he would protect them.

Julian determined that he would love them twice as fiercely as any adult could. He would do everything for them, he thought, as he went up to the attic one night after his uncle had lived in the Institute for some months. He would make sure they had everything they wanted. He would make sure they never missed what they didn’t have; he would love them enough to make up for everything they’d lost.

He basically transformed into a mama bear at age 12. He would do anything for them, tell any lies. I adore that he is not one of those righteous Captain America-types (gosh I hate those).

Anger surged up in him—if he was a liar, and a good one, it was because he had never had a choice.

The only thing that made Julian angry was fear, fear for his sisters and brothers.

Julian doesn't trust anybody. And i think that's what makes Malcom's betrayal even worse.

Malcolm once did much good, before he did evil. It is one of the great lessons of growing up, learning that people can do both.

He would destroy a whole city if he thought that city posed some threat to his family.

Julian is an anti-hero, he has so many layers. Amd I am here for it!

Mark is so so precious. This time around I really noticed his struggle being back with in the human world. How out of place and conflicted he feels. But he doesn't realise that his family does need him and that it would crush them if he left out of choice to be with Kieran in Faerie.

There is love here, among you. Such love as takes my breath out of my body. There has even been enough love left for me.

I love the way he speaks and all the odd things he does and how he makes Ty happy.

In the end when he chose his family I felt like cheering and crying at the same time.

“Would you place a rune upon me, brother? For I fear that without them, I will be at a disadvantage in the battle.
Julian’s hand went automatically to his stele. Then he paused. “Are you sure?
Mark nodded. “It is time to let the nightmares go.

Cristina is such a Hufflepuff, I LOVE IT! She is so loyal and she is there for everyone. But she is especially there for Emma and Mark. The first time I read this I remember being a bit suspicious of her. I was like: Who is this girl? And why is she so secretive? I love her character so much.

I can't stand Perfect Diego. The things he says either make me roll my eyes or want to smack him.

I can't wait to re-read Lord of Shadows just so I can have more Kit! In here he is all lonely and sheltered but I can't wait for him to befriend Ty and Livvy!

Kit wondered what it would be like to be Nephilim. To live among people who saw the same things you did. To not ever be afraid of what lurked in the shadows.

The Blackthorn kids are everything. They are all so precious. I can't decide who I love more!

I'm so glad Cassie introduces mental illness into the Shadowhunter World. It makes me so mad the way the Clave treats those who are different.

I said I hated Arthur. But that was a long time ago. I don’t hate him now. I hate the Clave for what they would do to him, to us, if they knew.

“It’s amazing that you’re still a Shadowhunter if you have a sickness of the body, but apparently not if you have a sickness of the mind.

The Clary/Jace/Magnus/Jem cameos were brilliant. I love getting to see their lives now.

I'm going to stop now and get on with my Lord of Shadows re-read!

“No one is ever the villain of their own story.

“We are bound together, Emma, bound together—I breathe when you breathe, I bleed when you bleed, I’m yours and you’re mine, you’ve always been mine, and I have always, always belonged to you!

I did not expect this series to start out this good. The dark artifices is a potential life-wrecker. I can feel it in my bones.

Everything was perfection. I loved Julian and Emma and their romance. (I see Cassie has a thing for forbidden romance) I thought the Blackthorns were most adorable.

This book was packed with everything we love that is Cassie Clare. I cannot wait for this series to continue.

I need more:
 Julian and Emma love
 JEM!
 Blackthorns family cuteness
 TIBERIUS BLACKTHORN
 Mark and Cristina

THE LAST SCENE WITH MARK AND EMMA OMW I CANT DEAL I NEED BOOK 2

AND I HAVE TO WAIT A WHOLE YEAR FOR MORE! EXCUSE ME WHILE I GO SOB
