The Library Book

What book lover hasn’t at least once dreamed about working in a bookstore or library? Sure, it’s not all fun and games, as we know with any job, but the appeal has always been there, for me.
”I couldn’t walk into a bookstore without leaving with something, or several somethings.
This quote is all too familiar and a total reality for me - I’m confident I’m not alone on this one either ;)
I really enjoyed The Library Book, where author Susan Orlean details the history of libraries, their origin and their various functions. From lending books, to serving as a research resource and answering inquiries, to hosting community meetings and educational programs, the impact of libraries is evident. She also explores the 1986 fire at the Los Angeles Public Library. Unfortunately, this destroyed hundreds of thousands of books and damaged other materials, which made me cringe as I read about the fire’s devastation.
This year, I’ve gotten back into utilizing the library and believe this is what’s helped me to be able to read so many books in 2019. I’ve borrowed numerous digital books throughout the year and occasionally have gone into the library to browse the shelves, feeling joy when I see a book from my TBR list patiently waiting to be borrowed.
The library is a gathering pool of narratives and of the people who come to find them. It is where we can glimpse immortality; in the library, we can live forever.

Thanks, Jenna! I’ve found that I can read quicker on my iPad than with an actual book and have grown to appreciate the convenience of ebooks when traveling (excluding beach vacations of course - where I feel paperbacks are mandatory 😎), however, I still prefer physical books and suspect I always will - There’s just something great about them! So I continue to read both. And I can imagine the thrill of opening new boxes of books - just to see what’s inside, how fun! 😍

Thanks Richard, it was interesting! I think most book lovers will find at least a few things to enjoy from this one :)
