it was amazing
Read 2 times. Last read September 3, 2023 to September 9, 2023.

Still a great read second time around. Cannot add much to my previous review.....

In chapter one of Endless Night Agatha Christie sets up a wonderfully atmospheric mystery & this has to be my favourite opening to any of her novels.
Endless Night tells the story of Mike Rogers, a penniless man, who meets & falls in love with Ellie who has more money than she knows what to do with. After Mike survives meeting her rich American family they settle down to live a happy life & build a house in idyllic Gipsy's Acre. And of course a warning from an old woman saying that the land there is cursed couldn't possibly be true....could it ?
Christie wrote this novel at the age of 76 & it's an incredibly brilliant, character driven story. What a treat to find such a great book.
ONE FINAL BIZARRE NOTE: I bought Endless Night while staying at Agatha Christie's holiday home of Greenway House last week. One morning, before Greenway opened to the public, I was sitting alone at the front of the house reading the book in the glorious sunshine. Then a voice said "Which one are you reading ?" I looked up & it was comedian Alan Carr!! Turns out he was making an Agatha Christie documentary around Devon & was filming at Greenway for the day. He was a really nice bloke, with no ego at all, & we had a lovely chat about how much we loved Christie's writing before he began filming. What a bizarre morning!

Steve Payne That's got me interested, Bill. Had this in my hand in the library last week. I think I'm one of the few people who like the film! I fancy giving Agatha another go, but decided to wait until after reading the latest Bond book first, which I should be picking up soon. I think I may read this and the first Poirot to start.

The bluray of Endless Night will be released on 27th June & I'll be buying a copy. Good to see Hywel Bennett & Hayley Mills together again. I thought they were both excellent in Twisted Nerve. Read two reviews of the film with one saying it follows the novel closely & the other saying it doesn't follow the book at all!! Go figure.
Hope you enjoy the new Bond novel. Look forward to hearing your comments on it as always.

Janete on hiatus due health issues Bill, this is one of my favorite Agatha Christie's books. Simply brilliant!

That's great to know. I've been reading her books for over 40 years, but this is the first time I have read this one. I will definitely read it again one day.
