IF THERE IS ONE THING MZ KNOWS HOW TO DO, IT IS TO GET ME OUT OF THE BIGGEST BOOK SLUMP IVE BEEN IN FOR MONTHS!!!
i was craving a good slow burn, so of course i had to turn to miss mz to give me just that, and i am so glad i did. THIS BOOK, THIS. FUCKING. BOOK. IS EVERYTHING TO ME AND IT IS NOW EQUAL TOP 1 WITH KULTI!! the way it had me crying, laughing, swooning and biting my nails the entire read, it is an emotional roller-coaster but truly heartwarming. this book was definitely more emotionally heavy compared to other mz books i’ve read, this story is going to stick with me for a long time.
what can i say about this book?! i don’t have the words to convey how beautiful this was, it deserves all the love and praise in the entire world. this story is so raw, emotional and beautiful, i loved every second of it. mz always knows how to gradually build-up the friendship and chemistry in a way that grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go to the very end. diana and dallas relationship was so beautifully written, it felt incredibly realistic. i’m just going to say the slow burn and build-up was every bit of perfect! 🤌🏼
diana is an astonishing heroine. she is incredibly strong, hard-working, determined, committed and selfless. she was sympathetically portrayed as a great protective force who stuck to her brand of morals. since the death of her brother she has taken on such a huge responsibility in raising her two nephews, she had to grow up fast when she became their guardian, she changed her life and made a home for the two young kids putting their needs first. she had many moments of self doubt and is often worried about not living up to other people’s expectations, but let me just say she will do absolutely anything for those kids and she treats them as if they were her own. she would frustrate me at times with her reluctance to accept help from dallas due to her stubbornness, but he made her feel it was always okay to ask for help and accept it.
josh and louie are possibly the best book kids ever written. they are so cute and had me laughing constantly. they brought so much fun, comic relief and light-hearted moments to an already beautiful story. i love how protective josh was over diana and tries to keep all men away from her and how louie thinks she is everything, he fr looks up to her like she hung the moon and stars, he is just a little ray of sunshine. 🥹❤️
now, let’s talk about dallas mf walker. idk how mz does it but she never fails to write a perfect mmc, i swear i ALWAYS end up falling head over heels in love with with them all. i was swooning so hard over dallas, he loves diana and her boys so fiercely and wants nothing more than to take care of them. where can i find a man as loyal and respectful as him?! HE WAS EVERYTHING AND MORE, HE FR KNITTED HER A HAT AND THEN HE BEATS UP HER ABUSIVE EX?!? he is the blueprint. dallas walker is the best mz man, argue with the wall. can’t believe i’m simping over a man who wears cargo shorts, but who tf cares. the relationship he developed with josh & louie was pure, i can’t even explain it.
i would space out a lot during the inner monologues, but i got used to it since it’s a reoccurring factor in mz’s books, but i didn’t even care abt it bc i just love this book sm!! i was fr reading this book slowly just to savour it all, i didnt want it to end 😭
*small note - if you've read mariana's books kulti and the wall of winnipeg and me, you will recognise diana as sal's cousin and vanessa's best friend. both of them even make small appearances in this book. 🫶🏼
i feel like i still have a lot more to say about this book bc i could go on foreverrr, but I'll leave it at that. i’m off now to enjoy this incredible book hangover!!
