The FMC’s relationship with her ex-boss is just frustrating and honestly makes it hard to respect her. It really ruined my enjoyment of the book. I don’t enjoy reading about female characters who lack a backbone or any sense of reality, especially when it comes to her handling of the groomsman situation. Convincing someone to marry someone they don’t like just because you think it’s your job to get them down the aisle, and then justifying it by saying they can always get divorced later? That’s insane. I almost DNFed this book multiple times. About 75% of it felt like a chore to get through, with only 25% being decent—so you’ll have to decide if that’s worth it for you.

Also, I love donuts just as much as anyone, but the sheer number of times the word "donut" appears in this book is borderline obsessive. If anyone has this on Kindle and can check how many times it’s mentioned, I’d love you forever! (Answer: 64 times).

If you’re reading this for romance, don’t bother. This book is 95% about wedding planning, 4% about their past relationship, and maybe 1% their current one. And I’m not exaggerating.

I don’t usually leave reviews, especially negative ones, but I’m serious when I say skip this book if you’re expecting what it’s marketed to be. Forget Me Not is a fitting title because I’m really trying to forget this one.

Update: Don’t let this review stop you from reading Not Another Love Song. I actually ended up semi enjoying it, even though I had zero interest in picking it up after how bad this one

Rosa I wish I had read the reviews before buying this book. I'm only 10% in and it has been all about wedding planning. At least the book was 4.99 :(

Shelby P Yes and you did support a new author! I actually would have rated it better had it been marketed as literary fiction.

N. Karina The donuts came up 64 times :))

Shelby P Thank you for looking that up haha

Shelby P Oh I know the beginning of the book was awful. I swear someone’s getting paid hard to push this book.

Shelby P Yes, I read this and rated this without knowing who the author was before. I totally love supporting new authors, but fake reviews frustrate me. No one who actually reads good books would ever rate this five stars haha. I actually think about how much I hate this book very frequently.

Nadia I wish I had seen this review before I bought it lol but I got a cute cover out of it I guess? Lol. So accurate about the 95% wedding planning part, felt like I was basically reading about an episode of a bridal show lol.

Mariah Klee The donut thing was a huge reason I chose to DNF the one 😂 64?! Agree with this review so much.

Liene Omg I knew there would be someone who counted those "donut" mentions. It irritated me soooo much. When will authors stop using food as a person's character trait. It doesn't make you unique or quirky, it just makes you an annoying person.

Shelby P Haha yes! I hate repetition of dumb things in books.

message 11: by Romance Novels (new)

Romance Novels List In 2023, I find it perplexing that many female authors continue to depict female protagonists who obsessively idolize and glorify their verbally and mentally abusive female bosses. While I acknowledge that these stories are fictional, it concerns me how authors continue the perpetuation and, frankly, the promotion of toxic work culture that mirrors the struggles many individuals face in their daily lives.
Once she reached out to her old boss for "advice", I knew I was done with this book!

Shelby P I couldn’t have said it better 👆🏼🫶🏻

Aimee Love your review!! The part where she convinced that lady to get married and just get divorced later left a bad impression on me. The rest of the book wasnt any better
