Karena (karenafagan) Since we talked about challenges on Ep. 4 of the , I thought we should try this.

Classic Author Reading Challenge

Duration: January 1, 2013 - December 31, 2013

Rules

1. Read: 26 books
2.Nothing published after 2003. Please feel free to ask if you are unsure if a book falls under the category of "classic." This can be an especially difficult issue for contemporary classics.
3. No children's novels
4. No non-fiction
5. No poetry
6. No dramas (plays) - even Shakespeare
7. You may NOT repeat any author.
8. Any name with an "X" or a "Q" in them will work for those letters. (The name does not have to begin with an X or a Q.)
9. Books must have been read in 2013.

You can sign up anytime, and you can backdate books if you know when you finished it, as long as it was done in the year 2013.

We are basically using our criteria here. The bookshelves will give you a hint. Right now it's books before 2003. No non fiction, no children's authors, and has to be novels so no poetry or plays. Here is a discussion we've had on the topic. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

Travis (travistousant) If we read say age of innocence and house of mirth could edith wharton be used for E and W since they are 2 different books or must they be 26 different authors?

Travis (travistousant) Question #2 will there be a heading under which we each set up ourvown thread to track our progress or do we all report to this 1 thread?

You guys are certainly making me work for my Booktator title this morning. ;)

Yes this is an individual challenge to read 26 DIFFERENT classic authors from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013. It does not count to use anything you read before Jan 1. We will be tracking it here.

Hopefully I have clarified this. I double checked the rules in Message 1 so it should be clear now.

Good luck guys!

Sue OK I'll have a go but not promising great results!!! I am reading so much 'modern' i.e. post 2000 that it would be 'good to have an incentive to read more classics. Did manage an A-Z of authors (surname only) last year - will be interesting to see what is found for the more 'difficult' letters.

Shannon Marie (CrochetQueen8307) I am going to try to complete this challenge. I will be keeping track of everything I read on my notepad app because, I can't edit my comments on my good reads app. When and if I finish I will post everything at once!
Also, I am having a hard time finding an author for the letter Q. Any suggestions?

Hmm. I can't find any either. I'll adjust the rules so it will be X and Q for anywhere in the name. Thanks!

message 19: by Sue (new)

Sue You could try Confessions of an English Opium Eater - Thomas de Quincey. I don't know whether this is a classic though!

message 21: by Sue (new)

Sue There is an author Sulayman Xwho has some very good reviews - again don't know whether he would qualify. Last year I read Sky Burial: An Epic Love Story Of Tibetby Xinran which was one of the most beautiful books I have ever read and deserves to be a classic!!

Classic Author Reading Challenge by Sandi K

Duration: January 1, 2013 - December 31, 2013
Read: 26 books
Rules: Use classic adult novel authors' first or last names. You cannot use middle initials. For the letters "X" and "Q", any author with the letter X or Q in his/her name is acceptable. You cannot use the same author twice. It is one author per letter. This is an individual challenge that will be tracked in this thread.

To be clear, we are only using the same criteria that we use for book suggestions. Books must be adult fiction novels before 2003. No plays or poetry.

You can sign up anytime, and you can backdate books if you know when you finished it, as long as it was done in the year 2013.
