Yejide Kilanko Hello,

Introducing my debut novel, Daughters Who Walk This Path. Here's the synopsis:

Spirited, intelligent Morayo grows up surrounded by school friends and a busy family in modern-day Ibadan, Nigeria. An adoring little sister, her traditional parents, and a host of aunties and cousins make Morayo's home their own. So there's nothing unusual about Morayo's charming but troubled cousin, Bros T, moving in with the family. At first Morayo and her sister are delighted, but in her innocence, nothing prepares Morayo for the shameful secret Bros T forces upon her.

Thrust into a web of oppressive silence woven by the adults around her, Morayo must learn to fiercely protect herself and her sister; a legacy of silence many women in Morayo's family share. Only Aunty Morenike—once protected by her own mother—provides Morayo with a safe home, and a sense of female community which sustains Morayo as she grows into a young woman in bustling, politically charged, often violent Nigeria.

A little bit about me :)

Yejide Kilanko was born in Ibadan, Nigeria. A therapist in children's mental health, she lives with her young family in Ontario. Her second novel, When Land Spirits Cross Big Waters, is forthcoming from Penguin Canada, Spring 2014.

Hello everyone. I've published my second thriller on Amazon as a Kindle ebook. If the description below interests you, please feel free to download a free sample:

A routine job escalates into a harrowing nightmare after Stewart Lorimer is led into a trap. Then he finds his business partner murdered. Fleeing to his childhood home, he attempts to resolve his mounting crisis. A letter left by his business partner leads Stewart to contact a hitherto unknown ally, who offers him limited help in exchange for Stewart's support in another matter. Constantly fearing death by an unknown assailant's hand, and hunted by the police as the prime suspect in the murder, Stewart is steered by his enemy to a group of strangers in a similar plight. But if Stewart thought for one moment his problems were over, he is mistaken; his problems have only just begun, and the stakes could not be higher his life and the lives of those he cares for.

"The Locksmith's Apprentice" is a 76,000-word thriller the second by author Martin Sandforth.

John Marshall Mills (johnmills) | 8 comments I believe I am one of Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ newest contribuors.
Many of us may be concerned about the ways bankers and politicians are threatening our financial security. How soon may the problems in Cyprus find their way to other parts of our world? Seemingly not to USA where the Lehmann crash and aftermath are now history, a black hole in the past that is being corrected. But is it? While bankers and politicians seem to be happy to conjure new (imagined?) money out of fresh air, I found the title for my debut self-published novel Dangerous Zeros.
Here is the news release that announced its arrival.

Dark shadows in a world where only zeros matter
‘Dangerous Zeros explores one man’s fight to regain his lost life

London “‘Dangerous Zeros (published by AuthorHouse) by John Marshall Mills is a shrewd financial thriller involving myriad characters and intertwining plots that pits its main character against the forces of an abysmally corrupt financial world that holds zeros in a higher regard than the people it fleeces... ‘Gripping narrative... ‘a compelling work of prose. (Blue Ink review)

In their obsessive focus on zeros, corrupt bankers and politicians threaten the world’s financial systems with meltdown that could devastate the lives of millions. This worrying ‘knife at the throat is all too familiar to the story’s main character Jamie Gulliver, brilliantly numerate heir to his father’s high-end private bank and seriously rich in his own right until Lehmann Brothers and the banking crash destroys his fortune and his future. Reluctantly, he is forced to do business with Raymond Ballantyne-Smythe cynical and feared founder of an international mega-business which we quickly learn is a front. Jamie finds himself inexorably sucked into a web of money-laundering, narcotics, violence and deaths while his disloyal wife wilfully continues her high spending ways. Faced with life-threatening odds, he fights back, mentally aided by an unlikely alter ego whose mind-game cryptic advice helps him to hang onto his sanity as he struggles to claw his way out of the pit. It proves a life-changing journey not only for Jamie but also for the characters who are forced to travel with him.

When asked about the appeal of his book, Mills explains: “.the contemporary theme reflects concerns and experiences of many people facing the frightening erosion of their money, property and social values. In today’s financial world, who can you trust?

...In Mills fast-paced novel, the number of zeros in your bank account dictates your popularity, but those zeros also attract the criminal element. (Kirkus Reviews)

“Mills draws drama from mistakes, missteps, and misadventures of the ‘masters of the universe who created the economic meltdown... (Clarion Review)

About the Author
Although “Dangerous Zeros is his first full length work of fiction, story-telling has always been a big part of John Marshall Mills life. South African born, he enjoyed a career as a director, producer and writer with BBCtv before forming his independent production company Formula One Films covering international sporting, corporate and technological stories. His original children’s animation characters, The Telebugs, led him to form an award winning animation company Telemagination best known for major international children’s series including: The Animals of Farthing Wood. He was also a founder director of CSS Promotions, involved in motorsport sponsorship. In retirement, he divides his time between Surrey and southern Spain. His book about hearing loss “Hearing for John is published by AuthorHouse.

K. Velk | 40 comments Hey Blighty! I have a new book about you (among other things). It's a time travel adventure story called Up, Back, and Away.

If you are just dying to read it, you can get it now from that on-line bookstore, what's it called again? Barbizon? Gargantuan? Oh, right Amazon. It's available the wide world over.

Here's the blurb:

Miles McTavish, 15, is undersized and inoffensive. He likes old bicycles, new music, and (don’t say it too loud), model railroading. As the only child of wealthy Dallas executives, it appears that a life of trustafarian ease is his birthright. All those expectations are upended, however, the day he is summoned to the hospital bed of his friend (and fellow English three-speed enthusiast), Morgan Davies. Professor Davies has a secret to share: he once was a time traveler. He also has a task for his young friend: Miles is to travel back in time to 1928, and across the sea to England. Once there, he is to find “a girl with a gift, a girl born out of her time and a “secret that was not meant to be and then return home with them both.

Miles must first find the courage to pass through the strange portal in the Vermont woods that will launch him on this mission, and then to face down a series of do-or-die crises (including a crisis of confidence). He must also navigate the low-tech, class-bound world of England in 1928 while keeping his true identity a secret. Miles' quest for the girl and the secret carries him from a great estate in the Welsh Marches to London's jazz-age cabarets, and from terrified boy to heroic young man.

K. Velk | 40 comments Em wrote: "Authors, please post your book promotions in this dedicated section."

Hi Em - New here and finding my way around and certainly don't want to trespass on the local mores. I just had to smile a bit at this "folder for author promotions" and wanted to share a parallel from US constitutional law. (In my day job I'm a lawyer).

The Hare Krishnas used to harass travelers in US airports back in the 70s and early 80s. (It was a free speech issue here in the US - the HK's said their right to free speech meant they could wander the airport looking for converts, contributions, dancing with their tambourines and finger cymbals etc.). This did not go down well with the traveling public or airport officials. In the end, the US Supreme Court said that freedom of speech could be preserved from the confines of a booth - during certain hours. As in: "Get in your booth people. You can wave the Bhagavad Gita at every passerby but you can only thrust it at them to arms length."

No doubt a wise decision. I am sure if you didn't have a similar policy here authors would be swamping every thread and flogging books with bells on as thoroughly as any Krishna ever did. You may not have realized that you all were following that decision here at Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. Thought you might enjoy hearing about it.

Diana Febry (dianaj) | 17 comments A recent five star review of my third novel, Elephant in the room. I was pleased to know one of my characters was so real the reviewer wanted to slap her.
What I have discovered in reading Febry’s books is that she excels at people watching, and asking the questions, or providing answers about their motivation. Each character has a complete set of flaws and insecurities that provide an insight into their motivations and actions. Refreshingly unapologetic, those who behave badly are given solid background that explains their reasoning, if not a clear empathy, for those acts.

In this story the narration is mostly provided by Penny, a woman in the midst of a personal crisis who is diverting her attention to her own issues to help the man she feels is giving her reason to live. A twisting and complex plot, with several players with their own secrets, all seeking to use Penny’s willingness to help and her seemingly innocent belief in all that she is told to manipulate a situation to their own advantage.

Full of twists and turns, Penny is seeking to bring a family reconciliation to a family that is torn asunder by secrets and lies, some important enough to kill for. Emotionally gripping, the story is a chase through the countryside that causes Penny to question everything she thought she knew, and forces her to face reality in a way she never dreamed possible.

If you are a fan of mysteries that are chock full of characters to love and hate, even some you want to slap some sense into, than Diana J. Febry is the writer for you. You will not be disappointed in this story.Elephant in the room

Tami Egonu Hi to fellow authors and readers

Do you fancy a free eBook? If so my novel, A Rhapsody of Dreams, is available but only for today from Amazon.

This is a literary contemporary fantasy dusted with romance, ghosts and the hunt for magic.

Tired of the monotony of life, Tyler hangs onto a magnificent balloon that takes him far above his London office. Seeing countless other daydreamers, Tyler is snapped back to reality and immediately abandons his stale life in search of inspirational impossible happenings. However, his travels around a world void of magic makes it hard for him to keep believing they exist.

Meanwhile, at a Georgian house in Yorkshire, Tyler's long lost first love, Molly, encounters a heartbroken and bitter poet. But nothing is as it first appears in this story of a powerful enchantment, a field of magical sunflowers, a memory tree, and the search for love even beyond death.

Thanks to the UK Book Club for giving us a platform to share. Happy reading :-)

published by

While serving as head of security on a small Caribbean island, Edune Santero leveraged the world's diamond cartels but his untimely death inadvertently provided the mafia a mechanism to legitimize their stockpile of blood diamonds ultimately becoming his fortuitous legacy.

While studying in Nuremburg Victor de Vasqua an unscrupulous Brazilian embraced the Nazi doctrine. He exploited the intensifying conflict trafficking wealthy Jews before the war, then escaping Nazis afterwards finally enslaving girls from war torn Europe to manipulate extremely powerful people.

The descendants of the Nazis have their own legacies to contend with in the vaults of Swiss banks.

Daniel Cross spent his entire life in the murky world of the CIA's black ops inexorably linked to the mafia from the time of the allied invasion of Sicily through the Cuban revolution and the assassination of JFK supporting the financial masonic triangle that rules America.

Tina is a beautiful young girl collecting plant samples in the jungle when she is suddenly embroiled in a desperate struggle to protect her environment. As the violence escalates and takes the lives of her loved ones she becomes more determined and ruthless eventually becoming the CIA's most wanted terrorist.

They are all entwined in Santero's enduring legacy.

Annie Jones (goodreadscomannie_lavinia) | 10 comments Hi everyone. I've recently self published on Amazon and am feeling wobbly and vulnerable!! My book is 'Mad Marco' by Annie L. Jones (so many Joneses to keep up with). It's a Fantasy/Romance with comedy bits in for respite. I love books so much I had to write one! I'm finding my way round Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ and what I've seen so far is deepening my interest - already found lots to put on my reading list.

John Marshall Mills (johnmills) | 8 comments Hi Annie, Best of of good luck with your self publishing. It's a tough road especially if you don't have a friendly editor and publisher sitting counselling you. But if it works, you'll feel absolutely great - you might even get rich which, although useful, is probably not why you've done it.
Don't worry about the Joneses. What could be worse than being John Mills? which is I why I added a middle name - John Marshall Mills - not for the book but because my doctor's surgery could never find my prescriptions!!
I'll be watching for your progress and Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ can be a great help in making you feel at home. Lots of very friendly well-read people.I am really warmed by the number of posts which enlarge my very limited knowledge of books - so much to read, so little time. Will people find your book, or mine?
Time will tell. Feel lucky and believe it. It's a great help.

John
