message 254: by Penny (new)

Penny | 3 comments Hi, my name is Penny and I LOVE to read (far too much).

Favorite Book/Series: Right now I'm in love with quite a few series in this genre (paranormal), which are: Vampire Academy series, Succubus Blues series, Kate Daniels series, Strange Angels series, Cassandra Palmer series, The Sookie Stackhouse (Southern Vampires) series, Wicked Lovely series, and I think I'm in love with the Demon's Lexicon series (just read the first book for the second time and I have to say it is so much better the second time around. Sarah Rees Brennan is quite a promising writer and pretty hilarious to boot).

Favorite Place to Read: In a nice quiet place. Usually the laundry room in my home.

Any Hobbies (besides the obvious one of reading): I like to pretend I can write--I can't, just so you know. I write short stories from time to time. It's therapeutic and fun.

Something Unique about You: I come from a huge family; I am the youngest of eight kids.

And every time I run to the store I have to check out the book section, even if I don't have money to spend on books.

I owe my public library a lot of money (long story that involves 25 borrowed books, a vacation, a car breaking down, an unplanned two-week extension to said vacation, and one HUGE overdue fine), so I don't go there anymore. As a result I buy at least 3-4 books a month.

I love school supplies. Not sure why exactly, I've just always loved school supplies *shrugs*.

I love the smell of Kinkos (not just any copy shop, it has to be Kinkos), Bookstores, baby's heads (ONLY freshly shampooed babies heads) and laundromats.

Kerri (fayhte) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Kerri...I am in lust with the Vampire/Werewolf/Supernatural/Sci-Fi genres and have been for just over a year now.
I have purchased and read 42 books within that time...and can't wait to keep exploring these worlds/realms.
I am a proud mommy of a 4yr old little girl named Olivia. We live in Nova Scotia, Canada...where both my Spouse and I work full time. Olivia starts school this fall.

Favorite Place to Read: I have one of those chairs for old people that electronically eject or recline you, and I LOVE sitting in it. :D
Any Hobbies (besides the obvious one of reading): I like to dig canals with sporks. :)
Something Unique about You: I am the proud owner of a unicorn. We are bff, and it frolicks through my garden leaving trails of magical pixie dust.

message 260: by Terry (last edited Jan 22, 2010 07:37AM) (new)

Terry (bluehouse) | 3 comments Hi! My name is Terry.

I'm currently in love with the Sookie Stackhouse books. The kids were home sick last week so I took the opportunity of being at home with kids in bed and me with little to do, to re-red the series. Ugh! I LOVE to be able to read a series one right after the other like that in such a short span of time. The smallest details that could easily be forgotten over time, are so easily carried over from book to book. It really brings a new depth to the the characters and story line.

I like to read anywhere. Usually I end up reading on my couch with my feet propped up on my husbands lap while he watches TV at night. It works well for us. We still get quiet down time together and since I don't care what's on the TV while I read, there's no fighting over the remote. ;)

A little about me? Nothing too wild here. I volunteer, I love going to Cuba, I used to be a graphic Design artist but I've been a stay at home mom for 10 years, I'm very openly atheist but my husband and kids (and my best friends) are Catholic... Which makes life interesting to maneuver through occasionally HAA! I have 4 boys, 10, 5, 5, 3. My 9 y.o. and one of my 5 y.o.'s have Autism and there's no question that it's a big part of my daily life.

Dawn Hi my name is Dawn I am new to the group and have never joined anything like this before until I found goodreads, since then I have been watching a few groups. Still not sure how everything works and still trying to navigate the site. After reading the Twilight series and working my way through the Sookie Stackhouse series along with watching Twilight, New Moon and the Vampire Diaries I am totally hooked and always looking for new recommendations. Along with loving to read but unfortunately not very fast, I love to scrapbook, make cards and take lots and lots of pictures. Hopefully I will get the hang of this soon.

Welcome Dawn! You'll get the hang of it I'm sure and end up with more books to read than you'll know what to do with.

message 263: by Amstene (new)

Amstene | 1 comments My name is alicia and like everyone else, love to read. My biggest problem is once i start a book, i cant put it down til i finish it. I will sit. where ever, until i finish whatever book it is i'm reading. and as soon as i finish, i wanna pick up another one. Which i guess is ok for now considering i dont really have much else to do with my time, cause i sit at home mostly watching 2 kids. (not my kids though, cause i dont have any)

I dont really have a favorite series, i have really enjoyed all that i've read. but i am on this total immortal, supernatural, fantasy kick right now.

I just came across this website 2 weeks ago probably and i have to say i love it. it alot easier of a way to keep up with all the different series that i've started reading. like when the next book comes out, without having to look on a bunch of different websites. its also cool to get ideas of other books to read that are of more interest to me, considering i dont have many friends who read, thats awesome

Dawn if you liked Twilight and Sookie, Highly recommend the Night Huntress series from Jeaniene Frost. Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series is great too!

message 265: by Sean (new)

Sean Cummings (seancummings) | 13 comments I'm Sean Cummings and I've been a fan of urban fantasy ever since I started reading "Werewolf by Night" comics from Marvel back in the late 1970's. I'm an author - I have book one of an urban fantasy series (Shade Fright) arriving in UK bookstores on March 1st - still waiting a North American release date. The second installment hits bookstores in July.

I'm a HUGE fan of the British TV series, "Being Human". If you're not familiar with it, think werewolf, vampire and a ghost living together in a flat somewhere in London. They're just trying to "fit in" but unfortunately vampire affairs, full moons and finding out your live in boyfriend killed you is getting in the way of a normal life - fantastic series and I highly recommend it.

Among my favorite authors are Jim Butcher, Simon R. Green, Kelley Armstrong, Robert J. Sawyer, Robert R. McCammon and Thomas Emson, just to name a few.

Also I have a deep passion for anything zombie related. Probably PTSD from when I watched Night of the Living Dead for the first time when I was like.. eight or something. :)

message 266: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (wildcherry) I just realized I've been in this group awhile and never posted on this thread. so here we go

My name is Stephanie and my favorite authors include Stephenie Meyer, Richelle Mead, Alyson Noel and PC Cast. I am an Office Manager at an Imaging study facility. When the doctor isn't here I sneak in reading time. I love everything fantasy and mystery. I am the mom of 4. 3 boys and 1 girl. only 2 of them are mine biologically the other 2 are step kids. the ages are 20, 11, 10, 3.

Something most people may not know about me is I love photography. I love taking pictures of anything including my family, friends, animals, and nature. The way the sunsets and puts a beautiful hue in the sky is just amazing and I like to capture it. I never took any classes in photography so I'm definitely an armature but it's something I enjoy!

Hmm Favorite Book/Series.. thats kind of hard! I have too many..
Favorite place to read is by the fireplace on the couch under a blanket.. perfect setting for reading basically anything
Hobbies - I like drawering, Browsing stores (not really much of a hobbie I guess), hiking, photography..

Umm something unique? I guess there are 2 things I can think of right now.. 1st I love to laugh and I actually squeak when I laugh and thus on of my nicknames is Squeaks.. the other is that I'm getting married on Halloween this year!

Megan Shanon wrote: "Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Megan and I am a book addict! lol

Favorite Book/Series : Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris, Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost, Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning, and of course Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward to name a few

Favorite Place to Read : Out on my deck when the weather is nice, sitting in bed, or anywhere quiet I can hide in my house

Any Hobbies (besides the obvious one of reading) : I play the piano almost every day, scrapbook, fishing w/ my husband, yoga

Something Unique about You : I hadn't read a book for myself, not one I was required to read, in years. I picked up one a year or so ago and I carry books with me everywhere I go now. My husband thinks its funny, lol. My life is starting to revolve around Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ and my books, lol. I'm sure you all can relate :) The other unique thing about me is that I'm Hypermobile (Thank goodness for my wonderful chiropractor!). It basically mean I can bend my arm or legs and instead of stopping like a normal persons would,it will instead keep going til it pops out. It can be painful, but w/ yoga I can control it better.

Nicole Moreau | 1 comments Hello, I'm Nicole and I do LOVE to read but I just never get/have the time. This year I have decided to make the time. So, now I have a schedule and I hope it works out for me because there is nothing like the temporary escape of a book. We all need to escape sometimes. For some its a movie or vacation or the spa; for me its an electrifying book.

My ten year old daughter is so much like me when I was her age; she reads every day. When ever we go somewhere, even if it's a short drive away she brings a book or two. I don't know how she does it - I get car sick.

However, I love listening to my iPod while I read. Ella prefers quiet. A perfect moment is when the two of us read together. I've got my iPod, shes got her quiet, and we both have a bowl full of popcorn and/or some other yummy snack to share in our time spent together.

My sons, Zack/16 and Dylan/14 - non avid readers - will look at us and shake their heads. I know exactly what they're thinking. BORING!! How is that fun? Its just a book.

If only they knew the contents.

Alisa Hi everyone! I thought I should properly introduce myself. I'm Alisa and I sent some copies of my first novel, The Blood Confession, to a few readers in this group. When I'm not writing I'm reading (an essential part of the writing process) so I'm always looking for good stuff to read. I read (and write) YA/historical/dark stuff, generally. Some of my faves: Dracula, Fade by Robert Courmier, and many others. I love tales of madness and obsession. Also...magical creatures. I love curling up on the couch with a good book and a mug of tea, but I still have a day job so I do a lot of reading on the train.

Nice to meet you all!

Haley | 10 comments Hello, Im Haley. I love reading anything paranormal. =]

My favorite book however is not paranormal, I love Impulse by Ellen Hopkins. Although i am in the middle of reading The Summoning series and Evermore, and i really like those.

My favorite place to read is probably in my room with my ipod. Its nice and peaceful, but in the summer i like to go lay on hay bales.

I dont really have any hobies other than reading, I have ended up quiting all my other ones in the past couple of years. Even though i do like sewing, and knitting, I know its really lame but oh well =]

Something unique about me.. well im weird. Like to a max, and when you live in small town everyone knows it. I mean its nice to be like that so if you do something absolutly stupid everone will jus be like "oh thats just Haley". I guess that wasnt entirely uniqe, i just kinda rambled. Well, something uniqe is that i have a cat who acts like a dog, and listens to me. Her name is Sasha and the makings on her face makes her look really odd. I hope that is kinda unique. hehe.

Jen (jen_79) | 3 comments Hi Everyone, My name is Jen. I just turned 31 on the 17th. I have a husband and 2 kids. I also am an avid dirtbiker. I am fairley new to the addcition, reading books, lol. I started at xmas with the twilight books, and now since, I have read a couple of the Anne rice Vampire books, the Sookie Stackhouse novels, Hush Hush, and now I am reading The Lovley Bones. I absolutly love reading, I have been missing out all these years. But I was never able to read really, I would only be reading words and not taking anything in. I guess now that I'm older and more relaxed, I can slow down enough to enjoy and take in the words? I don't really know maybe something just clicked in that brain of mine haha! Whatever the reason. I am going through books pretty quickly and just love the time spent reading. I can't get enough.
I have always loved the paranormal movies, and now that I read I love the books even more.
Anyone have any recomendations for some good ones that maybe I don't know about being so new to the book world, can send me some suggestions to my inbox? I would appreciate it.
