Tall, Dark & Dead by Tate Hallaway
Finished: 07/24/13
Rating: 3 stars

I don't know. It was an enjoyable read but I feel like it was missing something. Everything just felt too easy. I love a HEA as much as the next person but it just felt empty to me.
I'll probably give the next one a try but I'm not eager to read it anytime soon.

I've updated post #40. That's on my TBR list, can't wait to see what you thought of it. :)

I just wish you could download it or something so you didn't need to be online to read it. :/

Good Job!! :D

I've got a couple more hours on my paranormals audio, will be finished by this weekend. I should be able to crank out the aliens book this weekend too to get caught up :)

Brief Review:
I enjoyed listening to the audiobook for this one as I drove to/from Wisconsin for work this week. The narrator did a good job with the different voices, so I intend to continue the series in audio.
I think the unique storyline continued in this one. It was part mystery, part urban fantasy, and part romance. Good stuff. I like the character of Reyes because he's always a bit of an enigma. I like that in my storylines ;)

However, I’m currently reading Nice Girls Don't Live Forever so things are looking up. I wonder what the next shelf will bring.

I did finish this week's book, which was overall enjoyable.
Shelf: Paranormal mix
Book: Haunted

This is book 5 of the series, but only my second read. The first one I read, Industrial Magic was pretty awesome. I loved all the characters in that one and even knowing the main characters shift every book or two, I was a little disappointed by how absent the characters from the previous book were in this installment.
This book revolves mostly around Eve and Kristof, who are ghosts on a hunt for another ghost/spirit thing. From the bits I knew about Eve and Kristof, I was expecting characters who were a bit more...morally ambiguous. Not a negative comment, just surprising. I really enjoyed watching their relationship grow, for the former head of an evil organization, Kristof is incredibly sweet and their love for each other kinda gives me warm fuzzies.
Part of the reason I didn't rate this one higher was because of the Nix, the Big Bad of the story. I wasn't fond of all the back and forth in time with her historical hijinks. Every time we went back to get another glimpse of the Nix in action, I needed a minute to catch up and get back into the story but that could be due to the audio, not the writing itself.
The pacing was a little slow but I do like this magical world that Armstrong has created and am definitely going to read more of the series.

Well this intro to the series wasn't too strong for me. It definitely falls in with

The GOOD: This book had some LOL moments, some slight smirk moments, and some "that was funny" without a laugh moments. I really liked the sides characters Mark and Jessica. They were cool and I liked the banter that went on with them and Betsy.
The BAD: After a while, Betsy struck me as more of a teenager than a thirty year old woman. All of the tangents she went off on were a little annoying as she got sidetracked from whatever conversation was occurring at the time. I also feel like the book didn't move overly much. I think it would fit well as a novella.
The UGLY: I wasn't in love with the narration aside from Betsy and Jessica's voices. I'm listened to books for umpteen characters and they all seemed different and unique from the voice actor. On this one, the voice of Sinclair, who supposed to be sexy just came across as sleazy to me. I also couldn't stand Tina's voice. It might just be me but whatever.
3 solid stars.

Review: I'm more of a TNG and Voyager fan. But I have seen many many a original series with my mom in reruns. I've always liked Spock, and I got so excited when he came on to the scene. I was a little disappointed at his lack of Spockness for awhile, although I guess I can understand. Looking forward to reading more of the Original series now that I have started.

This week, I'll either continue the Women of the Underworld series with

Not including this new shelf, we need these to get all caught up.

How is it so far? I started it but I got distracted by other books.

I absolutely love this series. Full blooded and Hot Blooded were really awesome! Eagerly waiting for the next book Cold Blooded out on October 8. Do tell me your thoughts after finishing this book.

Yep, I've got those ones, and lots of DS9 and some Voyager too. Basically that's why I stopped, it just cost way too much to keep up.

Review: First of all totally not what I was expecting when I started reading this book. There are so many post apocalyptic/dystopia novel on the scene now and this one is just completely different from ANY of the ones I have read so far. The ending totally took me by surprise. So looking forward to checking out the second book when it's release.

Shelf: Supernatural
Book: Fall From Grace
Rating - 3.5/5
Review:
This book is a fairly sweet, at times intense, romance that centers around soul mates who have been looking for one another for quite some time. It has an interesting premise but I wouldn't classify it as a PNR. It is very much more a new adult, contemporary, even rock star romance, that has paranormal elements to it.
The GOOD:
Like I mentioned, it had an interesting premise around angels, soul mates, and the like. I really liked Shane who is the H. I liked Grace, our h, but at times, "mysterious" things to her were a red bulls eye with flashing lights to me and it's like COME ON! I liked their banter but at times Grace would say some really mean things and Shane would get sad which made me sad. Another good point is that this book was free. I say that because the story was good. The writing needs work but the general story is very interesting and I would like to read the second book in the series.
The BAD/UGLY:
Editing, editing, editing. This books needs some MAJOR editing. There are numerous errors, repeated words, and words that spell check won't catch like when you wrote the word form but it's supposed to be from. If the author, gets a good editor, I'm sure this book will take off even more.

You gotta love it when your kids let you read in almost peace and quiet.

Book: Wicked as They Come
Finished: 08/01/13

Review: I knew I was going to like this book less than 10 pages in. A hospice nurse finds a locket at an Estate Sale and is transported to Sang. Sang is an alternate universe and also about 100 years behind us. Then we meet Criminy Stain. *sigh* Tish, our MC, meets him immediately.
There are bludmen, bludbunnies (which still tickles me a bit), bludrats, and pretty much anything else blud-you can think of. Except birds, because apparently, that’s just silly. :) Carnival folk and real magic round out this new world and its inhabitants.
Criminy is, in his words, “a gypsy. A rogue. As wicked as they come. and that was when I realized that I was completely in love with this character.
I’ve deleted half of this review at least twice because of spoilers. But I could go on and on. I fell into this reality and didn’t want to come out. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will definitely be continuing the series.

Sorry I've been slow the last couple weeks, I literally haven't had a chance to read or listen to a single page this entire week. Fingers crossed that changes. Am going to read a little now, just wanted to check in and say hi :)
Have a good weekend everyone!

I'm still reading this week's category, though I am nearly done. :)
