Amy Finished Forever, which was a little disappointing. Now reading Already Home by Susan Mallery.

message 3202: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading The Lost Hero which I enjoyed and I've picked up Behemoth which I hope I will finish this time around.

message 3203: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cawils_99) I recently finished Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick and loved it. I'm now trying to get my hands on Crescendo (Hush, Hush, #2) by Becca Fitzpatrick but it seems like everyone else is too. I may have to break down and buy this one.

message 3204: by Eden (new)

Eden Silverfox (tsalagi_writer) | 265 comments I've just started reading Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper.

message 3205: by Amy (new)

Amy Hush Hush 3 is released Oct. 18th! Can't wait. Might have to reread the first two. Right now I'm reading Simply Irresistable by Susan Mallery, not YA.

But I had just finished Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later. Was sort of excited for the book and so disappointed. It definitely wasn't the Sweet Valley I remembered. The author tried to make it more adult but adding curse words and sexual content and it just didn't work. Seemed out of place and the character were even annoying.

message 3206: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I am reading The Warlock.

message 3207: by Rita (last edited Jul 25, 2011 09:53AM) (new)

Rita Webb (ritawebb) | 183 comments I just finished Dragon Bones and Dragon Blood by Patricia Briggs. I doubt it would be considered YA. The MC is about 18 in the first book and 22 in the second, but if it isn't YA, it's a good adult book for young people.

Cheryl (cawils_99) I did buy Crescendo (Hush, Hush, #2) by Becca Fitzpatrick and finished and I thought it was pretty good. I also listened to Peter and the Starcatchers (Peter and the Starcatchers, #1) by Dave Barry and I loved it!!
Next is Princess Academy by Shannon Hale .

Agreed! I actually have decided to wait a little longer on this one. I'm still debating what to read next...

message 3213: by Emily (new)

Emily I LOVE THE KNIFE OF NEVER LETTING GO! This series is in my top 5 favs. I really hope you enjoy it.I think you will.

message 3214: by Cassie (new)

Cassie Ok, so I have actually started Darkness Becomes Her and am going to wait a bit on The Knife of Never Letting Go.

I'm really very excited about The Knife of Never Letting Go, but realized that I should clear a few others from my library shelf first.

message 3215: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Barker | 1 comments Hi, everyone! Happy to be a part of this group. I'm a YA/Teen/Women's fiction writer and hope some of you will be kind enough to read my new work, "Ednor Scardens" which is available on Amazon/Barnes and Noble. Print edition is coming soon. ...

Here's what it's about:

When the boob fairy makes an early visit in sixth grade, eleven-year-old Kate Fitzgerald is unprepared for the repercussions. Her puppy-love relationship with classmate Gabe Kelsey quickly blossoms. But her carefree days in Catholic school darken with the arrival of Father John O'Conner, a predatory priest with a hidden past. Life becomes even more tangled when Kate falls hard for Gabe's darkly handsome older brother, Michael. The Kelsey boys couldn't be more different: one is shy and self-effacing; the other is tall, athletic, and confident.
As the brothers battle for Kate’s affections, how will she choose without tearing their family apart? When she silently witnesses a frightening scene between Gabe and Fr. O'Conner, Kate is unaware that she is O'Conner's intended next victim.

With her mother distracted by the strain of providing for her daughter, and a grandmother uncannily tuned in to her feelings, Kate struggles to navigate the unwanted attention from older boys and men, while trying to sort through the questionable counsel of her too-worldly best friend, Anita. Comical adventures lend relief to Kate’s dark struggles, especially when friends share their refreshingly naive observations about growing up. The tragic death of a classmate brings the group face-to-face with mortality, shattering their facade of invincibility.

Ramsey Flynn, author of CRY FROM THE DEEP, writes:
“In her compelling breakout novel, EDNOR SCARDENS, Kate Barker writes with the commanding prose of a seasoned pro. Her characters and plotlines are crisp, vivid, clear and sensitive, easily winning her readers' confidence as the story unfolds. But Barker's boldest decision is her willingness to bank on characters both complex and earnest. Through the testing of allegiances, the moral temptations, the inevitable gathering of courage, and the everyday crucibles that a young heart must endure, readers will have no doubts who they're rooting for in the end. One of the clearest winners is new novelist Barker herself, who definitely has more great stories to come. This series will quickly produce a loyal and devoted following!
There's a trailer up on YouTube also: ...

Thanks!

Paula (pauldajo) I am reading Darke. It seems as though I read the last book ages ago. I need to skim through Syren and reacquaint myself with many of the secondary characters.

message 3217: by Julie (last edited Aug 01, 2011 09:15AM) (new)

Julie S. I just finished Solitary, and it was good. That series is not for everyone, but it might be interesting.

message 3218: by Amy (new)

Amy Reading Extraordinary by Nancy Werlin. Sort of confusing right now cause I know it's about fairies but their goal is not very clear.

message 3219: by Emily (new)

Emily I finally started Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth so far it's really, really good!

message 3220: by Samantha McNulty (new)

Samantha McNulty Emily wrote: "I finally started Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth so far it's really, really good!"

This book is on my TBR pile .. awaiting to be read!

message 3221: by Cassie (new)

Cassie Ok, realized I wasn't in the right mind for Watership Down right now. So I'm reading The Lightning Thief and The Knife of Never Letting Go finally ;)

message 3222: by Cristen (new)

Cristen | 135 comments Just started on Halo today.

message 3223: by Amy (new)

Amy I'm reading The Vampire Diaries: Origins.

message 3224: by Julie (new)

Julie S. Today I finished The Secret Science Alliance and the Copycat Crook and started Vibes. Both are pretty good but in different ways.

message 3225: by Julie (new)

Julie S. I finished Vibes. It sort of reminded me of something that Meg Cabot would write.

Now I'm reading The Austere Academy, and it's great so far. This is my first time reading that series, but I've been loving the books.

message 3226: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I started reading Rampant.

message 3227: by Jesi (new)

Jesi (pwnedkitten) | 198 comments I'm currently reading Vampire Academy, and I have to admit - THIS BOOK IS HORRID! Honestly, if it weren't for the whole "I'm reading it for the book challenge and I want the points" and "I bought this, so I'm making myself read it" thing, I'd totally give up on it. The main characters are complete wastes of space, the teachers are either criminally oblivious or criminally negligent, and the writing itself is tepid at best. The sad thing is that Mead apparently has a wonderfully developed world, one that is intriguing, but the rest of the book is woefully inadequate.

Normally, I wouldn't write what is basically a review in this kind of thread, but this book is making me so ticked off that I had to rant about it *somewhere.*

...I feel better now.

message 3228: by Cristen (new)

Cristen | 135 comments That's too bad about the Vampire Academy, I hear so many people talk about how much they like it.

I'm reading Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices #1) by Cassandra Clare right now, liking it pretty well so far.

message 3229: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) Jessi, I have close to the same opinion about 'Vampire Academy'. Not quite as strong, but I am definately leaning in your direction.

message 3230: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I am reading Septimus Heap: The Magykal Papers. It's a great picture book, but I wouldn't pay $17.99 for it. I bought it for $7.20 which is a better price. I wouldn't buy the ebook version (if there is one). So far I've been interested in about half the written information. Love the pictures, though.

message 3231: by Amy (new)

Amy I didn't like Vampire Academy either. I prefer the House of Night series. Right now I'm reading Wereling

message 3232: by Emily (new)

Emily :O:O:O I've only heard great things about VA and I'm so excited to read it.

If it wasn't for a co worker encouraging me to keep reading I wopuld of gave up. I t gets. Better and the scond book was much more developed.

message 3234: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Finally, I have had a chance to read a little!

I'm about 1/3 of the way through Divergent by Veronica Roth, and it's pretty entertaining so far. It's good as an audiobook.

I've also been reading Forever by Maggie Stiefvater for weeks now and while I enjoy it when I pick it up, I am not DYING to know what happens next. Strange, because I loved Shiver and really liked Linger.

Maybe I'm in a funk because I've been so busy. Or maybe it's because two of my friends didn't like it and I'm projecting!

Eden Silverfox (tsalagi_writer) | 265 comments I'm currently reading The Forgotten Door by Alexander Key.

Ann | 88 comments Eden wrote: "I'm currently reading The Forgotten Door by Alexander Key."

Oh! That was one of my absolute favorite books when I was younger!! No one else has ever heard of it when I try to bring it up, even in my kidlit circles. I'm almost afraid to re-read it now that I am an adult, since I have such strong memories of reading it over and over when I was ten.

message 3240: by Emily (new)

Emily Amy wrote: "Just started Nightshade and I'm really enjoying it. Just wish I had more time to read right now."

wow I coud basically say the same thing. I started Nightshade, but I have absolutely no time to read it.

message 3241: by Amy (new)

Amy And it totally stinks because Nightshade is so good. I'm glued to it. All I want to do is read. Stupid work. LOL.

message 3242: by Emily (new)

Emily Stupid college! :)

message 3243: by Amy (new)

Amy LOL Emily. This weekend I was stuck in the house due to the tropical storm Irene. Lucky me I got Nightshade completely finished. It was awesome!

message 3244: by Emily (new)

Emily aw man you beat me by a lot I'm only like 100 pages in.

message 3245: by Amy (new)

Amy LOL, I think once you get hooked you'll feel the same way. That happened around page 180 or so then I just couldn't put it down.

Right now reading Getting Lucky by Carolyn Brown. Not YA but a great author and read.

message 3247: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1332 comments Got back into the YA scene and reading City of Ashes

message 3248: by Aparna (new)

Aparna Mukhedkar (Rajapi) | 1 comments Reading Wither by Lauren De Stefano. It's quite a good read. Finished the third book of the Hinger Game series. Cannot wait for the movie!
Loved Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson. Another gem I discovered was Six Weeks To Yehidah by Melissa Studdard. Awesome book!

message 3249: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I am reading River Secrets which is a book that's been in my to-be-read pile for around 3 years. Good story.

message 3250: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Ok, I just finished all three books I've been working on forever. Time for some new ones!

I'm listening to Forgotten by Cat Patrick, reading The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane on my Kindle, and reading The Boy Who Dared by Susan Campbell Bartoletti the old fashioned way!
