Because most people want privacy? 50 years ago, Americans didnt have to worry about something they said on a telephone. Its disturbing to the general population that they do, and its not right.

Sasha Ivashkov-Herondale-Jackson (aka Clarisse) (sasha101) | 175 comments ok yes there is lack of privacy, but its someone who you may never meet who is listening in, and its not like thy r making it public.

Well personally i dont really have a problem... i mean i dont write private things on my Facebook account so whatevr i write/post are things tht i would be ok with people seeing.

Xdyj | 127 comments I think if your job does not involve science or engineering it is not impossible that you will never need to use math beyond elementary school level in your life. However learning subjects like algebra or geometry are also invaluable opportunities to develop students' imagination & critical thinking skills, and those skills, unlike theorems or algorithms taught in math classes, are of great importance for almost every career path & also for making informed decisions as a citizen. So I think advanced math should stay mandatory even though many ppl will never touch it after they graduate. OTOH there could be some reforms on what is taught in math classes & how to teach them. A recent education reform in China has put logic into high school math curriculum while cutting some less important traditional topics & I know some logicians here are also arguing for something similar.

Geometry will draw the soul towards truth, and create the spirit of philosophy, and raise up that which is now unhappily allowed to fall down. ---Plato, The Republic, on why math should be mandatory for free citizens of his utopia.

ugh that is so disgusting. those poor girls, they are still children but they r being forced into marraige.
What is up with they parents? And her "husband" more like a serious pedophile. Actually killed the young girl! how could he even attracted to her in such a way? such a violation of human rights.

really, its when i read about stories like this in the news, i wish i had the death-note, so i could write of the worst-possible, most painful death for those "people". They do not evn deserve to be called people!

And really, "un-Islamic"? its not like the law was banning the girls from wearing head scarfs! Yes, maybe some people from certain cultures get married at young ages, but this is just puching the limits. I dont think any of my muslim friends at school would agree to things like this. Im sure they would most certainly want that law to be passed.

Yes, i know some girls in my school of the same cultural background who are already engaged, but they arent married to men who are 20 times thier age! Their fiancee is also as old as them (probably just a year or two older)

Child marriage is unfortunately still supported by a few Islamic scholars today e.g. . It is not something exclusively happening in a few countries/regions/cultures either. I know someone whose cousin was illegally pressured into marriage as a young teen in some rural area in south China a few years ago. & it was awful according to her.

Som The racism over Indian origin Miss America...

It's ludicrous! Just vexes me just thinking about it.. She was born in there; why bashing her color? How could these bunch be so pathetically crap minded. They are just insulting U.S just by living in there. SMH

Check this 'ouch'

"And the Arab wins Miss America. Classic," tweeted @Granvil_Colt minutes after the usual final flourish ended in the crowning of Indian-American Nina Davuluri, the current Miss New York, as the new Miss America.

''Ummm wtf? Have we forgotten 9/11?'' asked @anthonytkr, associating her with the terrorist attack on the United States. Some called her Miss Al Qaida and others dubbed her Miss Terrorist. ''How the f*** does a foreigner win miss America? She is a Arab!'' followed up @jakeamick5.

Source:

Other link(s): (her reaction; of course she'll rise above it!)

o_O Sounds like these racist bunch didn't get much attention when they were kids...boof'nhoo....Even sadder, these racial megalomaniacs don't even try for themselves to get out of ignorance. But still on the grid... OR ...they are just a bunch of trolls! Either way, it's just sad.

message 43: by Som (new)

Som My sister's friend got punched in the face for being an Indian, from an Aussie lady, she said 'go the f*** back to your own country'. Btw that innocent girl was on her way to college, the punch made her lose balance and she grabbed something to avoid falling on the tracks; she reported it afterwards; and cops hesitated a bit then assured her to check the surveillance camera...no results yet!

Racists germs are everywhere; they often feel like they are jobless because of the foreigners; so out of ignorance they blame some specific colors. It's more out of narrow-minded jealousy than anything else; and some white supremacists must have been to Compton to spend their weekend lol.
Think the same thing happened here...it's all about jealousy...

message 44: by Som (new)

Som ^Yeah Lia twas terrible. Not me sister but one of her friends! It was the same thing though; nevertheless! But if it was my sister she would of dropkick the shit out of that ignorant tramp...She's way stronger than me, a Thai kick boxing expert she is...

@H99....You're absolutely right..but the border confinement is a part our existence and all the laws and constitutional entities attached to them, being the major evolutionary apparatus ....it's not easy to erase them as the term 'patriotism' will lose its definitional values in the first place...being human is just conditional within these borders don't you think!? And the cultural involvement makes it more difficult for sustainable moral human values....sadly gives away a bit of unavoidable lucidity to the racism...

@Lia....About the review policy; I believe there'd not be any 'shackling' moderation. Speaking your heart shouldn't have any boundaries at all. There are reviews that can hurt me a great deal (think about it mates). I'd be able to comment about them in an opposing manner; end of the day it's not just your or any others' opinion that stands on a proud pedestal. It'd be a factual represent of the whole. It's not an ego clash but it's the justification of the brainstorming closure. I can't appreciate the other way around, including 'oh no you're right' gobbledygook satisfaction. Bottom line, These policies may prevent me (and buncha others) from writing any reviews at all...'nuff said..

message 45: by Som (new)

Som I meant erasing as in seeing beyond a person's color or nationality. I don't want to do away with borders altogether.

Sounds good, for for debate's sake If you don't mind me asking;.... how'd we do that!? It's like ignoring the history altogether...you've been taught since you were a kid about the different racial domination and their functions; will you be able to withhold your moral strata about the racial discrimination overcoming the primary knowledge you carry with the history?

Som ^^Nice points H99, Lia..cheers :)

Negative feedbacks, bashes, mocks etc help the author to prosper. A true author values them more than buncha fan-boyish flowery compliments...
90% of the GR users aren't professional reviewers (or is it 78%? pardon my French! lol) they seek GR reviews for some raw, honest thoughts about their book(s). They don't really mind occasional bashing..Maybe some do; so GR is intending to maintain a clean slate when it comes to authors' filing lawsuits out of butthurt..but I've never heard any author suing the GR and reviewers simultaneously; would be kinda funny as hell, will deffo be a headline for FOX/Onion News at some point lol

Movies: "Rottentomatoes"; IMDb's little cousin full of grumpy reviewers. I check the movie which gets less than 10-20% in there; pick it up and watch it knowing that it'll be hella entertaining. They bash it pound-for-pound till the ordinary movie watchers like me believe that the movie, the movie makers and cast are the biggest mistakes ever hailed on earth. They never consider that there are millions of people who could find them fun filled those go best with munchies. After your hectic job slavery, you don't pick up a movie where the protagonists talk and take shit for 90 minutes about life and death in an modern-artistic-philosophical manner...you'd rather prefer talking to a clam and enjoy it! Point being; "When THEY do it, it's professional and respected...and when ordinary cats do it......"

We could read books and get epic recommendations way before GR was invented; it's just an easy way to create shelfs and keep track of what you('re) read(ing); 'challenges' are a plus...TBH I barely read any reviews because of the TL;DR and extreme (unnecessary) nitpicking. It's not even advisable to read the description let alone reviews before reading a book. I have felt most reviewers are more like 'like hunters/gatherers' and simply 'braggers of their newly invented erudite perspectives'. Anything more to that? When you run out of words, you can use pictures; Eureka! shows how funny you're! We all see funny pictures on facebook/random sites all the time. But if you add a (not so) funny pic to the review of a serious novel; is it really funny and is it about the book?! Mostly, top reviews are more 'bashful' than the bottom ones...etc etc...we could talk-talk all day long about it; but it'll be a futile attempt of reasoning! :)

Idk but can authors really sue a website or a reviewer over a bad review? Is there any law saying that readers can not badmouth a book or its author?

message 49: by Som (new)

Som ^^Purloining through plagiarism is an obscure art (delicately named, 'remake') lolol

And Lia, you're right about 'whatever floats your boat'. I avoid reading reviews beforehand as they stale the freshness of books through little intangible spoiler elements. (:

The suing reviewers and filing lawsuits was meant to be more funny though (and less satirical); our scholars of jurisprudence can't even prosecute a violent rapist properly. So don't think it even qualifies as a cyber crime to express your opinion against books and authors, even in the most bashful way.

New News

PS: In that case they would of beaten the crap out of me because of my beard and color! It's officially decided; I won't go too far; not even close to U.S.A (no offense intended). Just don't want to be a victim of some angry people's ignorance, that's all!

What breaks my heart; most are living in the Internet era, and in a 'developed nation'; where being ignorant is somewhat inexcusable. But ... is ignorance seeping in through shallow genes of junk foods and depressing farts of lamenting insecurity?!...
