Option 1: Rolling the Dice.

crap&dice

The object of Yahtzee is to obtain the highest score from throwing 5 dice. The game consists of 13 rounds. In each round, you roll the dice and then score read the book of the correspondent die face - the roll in one of 13 categories. You must score once in each category. The score is determined by a different rule for each category. The game ends once all 13 categories have been scored.

To start with, roll all the 5 dices using the virtual dice (). Instructions under the spoiler tag (view spoiler)

After rolling you can either score the current roll (see example below), or re-roll all the dice.

You may only roll the dice a total of 3 times. After rolling 3 times you must choose a category to score.

You may score the dice at any point in the round. Once a category has been scored, it cannot be scored again for the rest of the game so choose wisely.

book #1 of a series
book #2 of a series
book #3 of a series
book #4 of a series
book #5 of a series
book #6 of a series

Upper Section:
For each category you choose to read as many books as it fits best till a maximum of five, as long as the number corresponds to the matching rolled dices.

Lower Section:
In the lower section, you read either five or zero books if you don't satisfy the category requirements except for the Small Straight (4 books required).

Three-Of-A-Kind: For 3 of a kind you must have at least 3 of the same die faces.

Four-Of-A-Kind: For 4 of a kind you would need 4 die faces the same.

Full House: A Full House is where you have 3 of a kind and 2 of a kind.

Small Straight: A small straight is a sequence of 4 consecutive faces.

Large Straight: A large straight is a sequence of 5 consecutive faces.

jingles I'm confused on this part in Option 1:

You may score the dice at any point in the round. Once a category has been scored, it cannot be scored again for the rest of the game so choose wisely.

and this part (option 1):
For each category you choose to read as many books as it fits best till a maximum of five, as long as the number corresponds to the matching rolled dices.

This seems a contradiction, so I know I'm not getting it. Sorry.

My first roll: 3, 3, 1, 1, 5.
So I choose to read two #1 Series Books, two #3 series books, and one #5 series book.

My second roll: 3, 1, 6, 5, 3.
I can't use the #3, #1, or #5 in a series, because I used that option on my first roll.

Is this correct?

Or is it, that I can use the series # until I've reached 5? In other words, I can only read a total of five #1 series books. Once I've read my fifth #1 series book, I can no longer use the #1 if I roll it again after that.

Sorry to be confusing.

No, it isn't.

Option 1 is exactly like if we were playing yathzee. So each rolling of the dice is for one category. So your first roll you either read two #1, two #3 and one #5 for chance, or only two #1 for aces, or only #3 for threes or one #5 for fives.
Or you can choose not use any and roll again (3 times Max)

Did that help? I'm on my phone know, but I'll be back in a couple of hours.

Nika ♥Marie♥ (mylknhoney) I am in. And I will be Using option 2 because I understand that one better!!!

I'm going to go with this one cause i understand it.

Large Straight: Read a chain of 5 books. They don't need to be part of the same series nor read in order.

Book 1: Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth by Veronica Roth
Book 2: City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare by Cassandra Clare

Book 4: The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles, #1) by Rick Riordan by Rick Riordan
Book 5: The Other Woman (Jane Ryland, #1) by Hank Phillippi Ryan by Hank Phillippi Ryan

Now that I have finished that one, I think I will do the Small Straight.

You are choosing option two to build your categories, right?

Option one is a bit difficult to follow, since it has the rolling the dice options, and doesn't have so many examples.

What are your main questions? I can try to help.

Yes, the virtual dice roller only allows the roll all 5.

However, you can use your own physical dices if you prefer, then the yathzee rules apply, keep the ones you want and roll the others.

You could change the number of dice rolled in the virtual roller to roll less than the 5 and "keep" the ones you wanted. Just use the drop down on random.org where it says "roll # virtual dice".

CassieV | 1196 comments I have a question about Option one...(just need some clarification)

For the Lower Section, if I'm trying to fill in the three of a kind, do I read books for all five of the dice that I roll, or just three to match my three dice?

Thanks! Love this challenge :)

message 33: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments for the lower section we must read for all five dices except for the Small Straight (4 books required).

Glad you like it. I love yathzee and series so this one is really my thing :)

Sounds good! I usually avoid series because I never get around to finishing them. This gives me permission to catch up on some I've been meaning to read!

Barb Sonia wrote: "Barb wrote: "DO we have to finish one roll before we roll the dice again? Or can we work on more than one 'entry' at the same time?"

You can work on more than an entry at the same time"

Oh wow, that wasn't the answer I was expecting LOL Thanks, Sonia :)

Just to make sure I understand correctly: Since we can't roll a number higher than a 6, no book higher than #6 in a series will work for this challenge, right? So our large straight, for example, would either be #1-5 or #2-6?

message 36: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments for option #1, yes. It will either be 1-5 or 2-6.

Larger series numbers only on option #2.

I'm thinking on doing the challenge twice, one for each option - yes, I do love my series :o)

message 37: by Barb (new)

Barb Thanks again, Sonia, that's what I thought :) I'm likely to do this one twice as well LOL

❶İձ❶ (ttea) | 9615 comments I'm little confused with chance.
Only option 2 can read books over 6th in series?
I don't understand how that works with option 1. I don't remember that one from 'real' game. :(

message 46: by Sonia (last edited Aug 27, 2013 12:34PM) (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Chance was the sum of the dice. Kind of a 'free' option. So anything goes in this option.

Yes, book number greater than 6 only in option 2. Unless you find a 'dice' with that many face numbers

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

Small Straight: Read a chain of 4 books. They don't need to be part of the same series nor read in order.
