Samantha (weirdlibrarian) So, how's it going for everybody? Thought if anybody wanted to share their progress on Good Reads...

Personally I'm more than halfway through my goal ^_^ but it doesn't count for much.

How about YOU?!

Brian | 2 comments I've finished the 2 books I was reading before the SRP, plus, I have read 'A Clockwork Orange' & just 6 hours ago finished 'The Rum Diary'.
We're heading off to Disney tomorrow, so I'll get going on my 3rd soon.
Wow! 4 books down(2 SRP), 1 more soon....I haven't read this much since school. I'm quite proud of myself :-]

Jessikah (ambermoone) | 5 comments I am currently reading 'Columbine' which I think doubles as my Adult and Non Fiction read.

message 5: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 8 comments I've finished 5 and am working on a fiction and a nonfiction right now. Most of the ones left on my list are classics, so I hope to get through them all before the deadline.

message 6: by Krazykat (new)

Krazykat | 10 comments finished 4 bks but still stuck on part 2 of "clockwork"--i truly detest the main character, esp. after he raped two 10 yr olds, & it'll prolly take me the rest of srp 2 stomach thru the whole stinkin russian mess :)

message 7: by Lola (new)

Lola | 4 comments I've only read one non-romance book so far. Well, 1.5 since I'm halfway through Me Talk Pretty One Day.

message 13: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (weirdlibrarian) Hey everybody!
Just a quick note... I had been tracking everybody's updates/posts in an Excel file, but had a minor thumbdrive accident and lost it.

So I've recreated it and posted it here --

Please look it over, make sure it's correct. ^_^

THANKS!!!

message 15: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (weirdlibrarian) Sorry, Meghan! I must have misunderstood your shelf. But I'll fix it! So the goal is "1 languishing", yes? ^_^

message 16: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kristenkong) | 3 comments I met my goal.

Proulx, Annie. "The Shipping News."
Read this one on the beach in Dauphin Island, Alabama. Proulx creates an amazing world- a cold, rocky place that nevertheless is populated by a
fascinating variety of big-hearted, unlikely heroes who are revealed to have all manner of special talents. Quoyle and company, who have never belonged
anywhere, gradually fit right in. The staccato, often subjectless or verbless sentences create a unique and compelling style.

Andrews, Mary Kay. "The Fixer Upper."
I love her style. This authentic tale of cleaning up life's messes and self-discovery is bright, engaging and thoughtful, enlivened by Andrews's
quirky characters and lovely backwoods setting.

Lancaster, Jen. "Bitter is the New Black: Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smart-Ass, Or Why You Shouldn't Carry a Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office."
This witty, fast-paced, easy read is laugh-out-loud funny and very entertaining! Jen Lancaster is definitely bitter, sarcastic, a little snobby and
materialistic. I like Laurie Notaro better but I will continue to read. My favorite line out of the entire book is 'Owning a dog is slightly less
expensive than being addicted to crack.'

Christie, Agatha. "And Then There Were None."
This is one heck of a yarn. Unlike other Agatha Christie books, in this one, everyone is a detective, as well as a suspect. I read this book first as a teenager revisiting it every few years and its still an enjoyable way to wind away the hours. Christie is the master.

Zaslow, Jeffrey. "The Girls from Ames: A Story of Women & A Forty-Year Friendship."
The idea of reading about a 40 year friendship between 10 women sounds very interesting. However, the book never truly draws you in. I feel like the
author can't decide whether he is writing a research paper about female friendship & its effect on people, or a more narrative biography of 10 women. So, in the end, it is written like a research study but does not present any conclusions or learnings and also, because it feels so clinical and
observational, the reader never really connects to any of the women. You go into the book hoping to feel the emotional connection & bond with them, but
you never do - and that's the disappointment.

Gilman, Susan Jane. "Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Dress: Tales of Growing Up Groovy and Clueless."
I did find that the author brought a wonderful mix to her stories: she's a rebel with a huge dose of common sense. Whether she's discovering, at age 4,
why she dislikes hippies; paraphrasing her mother's stubborn adamancy in teaching proper grammar to inner city children (her mom also sent her to TM);
facing true evil for the first time (in the form of the gaping maw of - her words - a human sized pizza oven in a concentration camp); or realizing her
own beauty, though she's a feminist rebel, can be expressed in the frothy lace of a Victorian wedding dress - Susan Gilman tells a story that most
people will enjoy.

Jessikah (ambermoone) | 5 comments I've completed my goal. Still have more to post though.

message 18: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 8 comments I've finished my goal and just did some half-assed reviews because I am sick and stressed and don't feel like being witty. Please forgive me!

Kelly (readingkelly) | 5 comments Mod
I finished my goal! :-)

I even read more Non-Fiction than I had anticipated.

All my reviews are up as well -- Both on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ and my Blog!

message 20: by Lela (new)

Lela | 2 comments I'm not going to finish. I just haven't gotten those 3 nonfiction books read, plus I haven't done reviews on a bunch of others. Just too much going on with searching for a job etc.

message 21: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (alwright1) | 4 comments I passed my goal of 20 and read 25. They are on my Summer Reading Program 09 shelf. I ended up reading through all of Tamora Pierce's Tortall books this summer and really enjoyed them. A Wizard of Earthsea - Ursula K. Le Guin
We Never Talk About My Brother - Peter S. Beagle
Wolf-speaker - Tamora Pierce
Emperor Mage - Tamora Pierce
The Realms of the Gods - Tamora Pierce
Carry On, Jeaves - PG Wodehouse (audio)
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - Jane Austen & Seth Grahame-Smith
The Hero and the Crown - Robin McKinley
Catching Fire - Suzanne Collins
Persepolis I & II - Marjane Satrapi (graphic novel)
First Test - Tamora Pierce
Page - Tamora Pierce
Squire - Tamora Pierce
Lady Knight - Tamora Pierce
Trickster's Choice - Tamora Pierce
Trickser's Queen - Tamora Pierce
Terrier - Tamora Pierce
