Well that isn't such a bad way to wait. I am quite tempted to make a hot chocolate myself now

message 254: by Kevin (new)

Kevin I've been stuck doing irish oral examinations all day so no reading was done at all for me. Plus now I've to type up all my reports for them this evening and prep for more stuff tomorrow :( .

Actually, I did give a student a loan of a book to read, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, so that should count :)

Sounds like hell Kevin. I have to do a two hour presentation tomorrow so all fun ahead.
Might join you guys in a hot chocolate

message 257: by Kevin (new)

Kevin In fairness to them they are getting much better at speaking it each time I do it. How are you finding the new job Paul? Tough going at first I imagine.

Yeah, just trying to orientate myself. Its a nice enough office and looks like I'll be kept busy

That sounds good :) Usually takes a little while to settle in to something new anyhow.

I have been out at a conference the last couple of days and had a fairly nightmare-ish meeting in which I wasn't really sure what was expected of me. Following up those joys tomorrow with about half a day of meetings and about 3 days of work to complete in 1/2 to 1 day... but then it is the weekend and I can relax :)

Ahh that sounds grim Kevin, did you have a fortifying cup of tea with you? How long are you doing all these exams for or is it just this week?

Lel - oh it is a Costa special? Sounds a lot nicer than my instant hot chocolate!

It'll take me a couple of weeks Freya but once a get a decent run of work to do It'll be grand.

message 261: by Kevin (last edited Mar 05, 2015 01:07PM) (new)

Kevin Thankfully I had several cups of tea to keep me going, Freya. I'll be doing it every week until the end of April and then it will be an emphasise on on the written side of the language. Today wasn't as bad as other days but it was constant from 9am until 5.30pm today except for a thirty minute break. Beidh mé as mo mheabhair!

In fairness, your week sounds pretty tough going :(, make sure to take plenty of book breaks!

How often did that happen today

Once only. The small triumph I had today was that they all answered "Dia is Muire duit" to "Dia duit", I was a happy camper. At the same time some students did make up a new branch of Franco-Gaeilge. Ah well, cuir síoda ar ghabhar agus is gabhar i gcónaí é. (put silk on a goat and it's still a goat) :(

message 264: by Lynne (new)

Lynne | 83 comments I spent my work day trying not to fall asleep reading a research study on the effectiveness of education while trying to work out how to replicate it on a much smaller timescales and limited resources (i still have more to read so know what i'm doing in work tomorrow) - by the time my work day ended i didn't feel like reading any more :(

@Leigh - that sounds amazing :) I know people with gluten allergies, I really ought to learn some good recipes!"

If you have recipes you already like, just try switching out the wheat flour with a general purpose gluten free flour. Also watch out for baking powder(replace with baking soda, but use less...) for a gluten free goodie. Since I'm just sensitive, it's no big deal if a little gluten sneaks its way in my food, but for some people this is serious problem! My specialty is fruit or chocolate chip muffins from scratch :D

Just want to apologise for not engaging much with the group recently - with less than 8 weeks to go until D-Day I'm finding it hard to concentrate on anything!

Hoping for a return in my maternity leave pre-baby! 2 weeks to go!

Ahhh you must be very excited (though equally all I can think of is Michael McIntyre saying "Get this baby out of me!" :P )

I have a few days at uni this week so I'm trying to cram all the reading I should have been doing into tonight! :S Silly Freya!

It wouldn't be college if everyone did the readings as they were suppose to. Procrastination always wins.

Very true... but that never makes me feel any better! My good intentions always fall by the wayside if the matter is not the most fascinating... that combined with the majority of academic paper writing styles lead to better outcomes than a sleeping tablet... speaking of which *yawn*, time to visit the land of nod :)

I can mostly relax, but still things to do like washing baby clothes, getting hospital bag ready - planning a home birth but got to be prepared! Tidying and cleaning the house up. And plenty of time putting my (swollen) feet up! The joys of pregnancy haha
