Congratulations! Kids are definitely exciting! My daughters are 6 and 2 an dim believe I value naps (incredibly rare) above almost all else in my life. Good luck and have fun!

message 404: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Good work Kirsty! They'll tell you to sleep when the baby does but most of the time you won't. You'll have more important things to do, like reading.

Congratulations! You can read while feeding the baby (it takes some coordination) but if you're low on sleep, your mind won't absorb anything.

Congratulations Kirsty! (A bit late to the party but I said my congrats on facebook a while back) and Ivy is such a beautiful name :)

You'll be well versed in children's books from here on out!

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 803 comments Very cool!

Was it terribly uncomfortable though? Then again, I guess thrones aren't made for lounging in while you cruise the TV remote.

It was in Amsterdam, the exhibition is there until Sunday. And it wasn't too bad, the actual seat bit is smoothed out :P

Haha these are so so true. My husband always tells me I shouldn't buy so many books and I tell him to leave my obsession alone and remember that I could be obsessed with expensive shoes and purses

So is anyone supporting Independent Book week. Any interesting events going on

message 418: by Rinn, (Retired mod) Captain of the SSV Normandy (new)

Rinn (rinnsohma) | 3456 comments Mod
Ah forgot that was this week, I had an email from the organisers last year. Love my little bookshop at home :)

message 419: by Kevin (new)

Kevin I work for one. That's all the support I can muster :)

message 420: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
Think thats a fair contribution. I think I'll do a bookshop run on my half day on Friday.

Rinn (rinnsohma) | 3456 comments Mod
I used to work for one... we had to shut down due to poor sales :(

I did get a 70% discount though, so most of my wages went straight back to the shop.

message 422: by Kevin (new)

Kevin 70% discount!! I thought I was doing well getting 33% off :o. I'd love to work for a nooky, cosy bookshop. Lots of tea, biscuits and comfy chairs...

message 423: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
You'd never do any work Kevin

message 424: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Fairburn | 12 comments I'm not sure a lot of us would given that situation :) I know I wouldn't... heh

message 425: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 441 comments They should have just paid you in books Rinn and Kevin

I guess they kind of did in a way, since they got the majority of their money back :P I had the job during sixth form, it was meant to be money for uni but it went all on books and an online game... whoops.

message 427: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 441 comments :-)

message 428: by Kevin (new)

Kevin I spent over 500 on books in the week up to Christmas alone... None were for presents either!! I must check the system someday and calculate how much I've spent in the shop alone. As good as libraries are there's nothing better than owning that book and sitting it on your shelf!

Freya (flamecat) | 1835 comments Mod
70% discount sounds dreamy! Can I give up my job and work for a book shop pretty please? :P

message 430: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Some new lyrics for us booklovers.

A fun Fantasy map quiz -

message 432: by Kevin (new)

Kevin I guessed a good few but was able to spot Rothfuss and Sanderson etc. pretty easily. Some of those books I had never heard of at all.

message 433: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 441 comments I got 6. Mind you hadn't read most of them of heard or a lot of them either!

message 434: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
I hadn't heard of a few but got the answer by a process of elimination in some cases.

message 435: by Lel (new)

Lel (lelspear) | 2362 comments Mod
funny quiz, its been ages since I read some of them, and some I have never touched. Feel quite proud of my 8.

message 436: by Scott (new)

Scott (dodger1379) I was pretty happy with my score of 8 since there were a bunch of questions where I had not read any of the potential answers.

Visitor Services, so front of house stuff - but a foot in the door, in one of the cities I wouldn't mind staying in for a long time, and in one of my favourite museums ;)
