message 409: by Lau (new)

Lau Maia | 0 comments Awesome Melissa! Sanz don't worry, just enjoy yourself :) I'm having troubles with this book I'm reading now, If I was enjoying it I might have already finish it! Let's wait for the update on the goals to see what we get.

message 410: by Melissa (last edited Aug 12, 2015 09:04AM) (new)

Melissa | 3759 comments No worries Sanz! It's slow at work at the moment and I'm lucky enough to be able to read. Once it picks up I won't be reading as much. :)

Like Lau said - just enjoy yourself. This is a fun challenge :)

message 411: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Don't worry Sanz. I usually only finish a book per week, but on the first week of a new challenge I'm super motivated, and this time I got luck with some pretty good and fast pacing books. But now I think I'm back to my normal rhythm.

Off to update the spreadsheet

Kay Kay | 1794 comments Ohhh We moved WAY up!!!!! Wow! Go team!
I better get reading!

message 419: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3759 comments Thanks Karen. I wasn't positive if it was the book itself or the edition publish date so I wanted to be safe.

We are doing an awesome job!

message 420: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Wow what a great streak of goals! Great job everyone. Now we need to get some more books read so we'll have lots of options for goals, lol

We got so lucky with those goals working for existing books! I'm not at work today so I'll try and get some serious reading done

I had some issues with my pelvis this morning (recurring issue through pregnancy for me) so between waiting at Doctor's appointments and taking a sick day, I managed to finish a book.
Hugo & Rose by Bridget Foley
It was a Netgalley book so I just started it on my kindle while wiating for the physio and then when I got home found that it just happens to have been published on the 5th of the month!
So that goal is now done and waiting for a new one

Stacey's book Sergei covers the goal!

I found one! Shan's book Breathe

message 427: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3759 comments Whew. I just took those books back to the library yesterday so I was searching for the name lol

New Goal

Ah! Now we have two of these

Read a book written by an author who was born in Canada

message 429: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3759 comments Hmm that I will have to check when I get to work lol. I have 5 books here but I don't think any of them work.

message 430: by Joanne (new)

Joanne If anyone has Station Eleven to read, Emily St John Mandel is Canadian. I want to read it but still waiting for my copy from library.

If no one else has anything you can put me down for it but I probably won't get to it until next week.

Thanks Joanne! No worries Melissa.
I was thinking one of L.M. Montgomery's books may be an option. If no-one has anything I can start one of them this weekend. I re-read the Anne series last year, but I could go to Emily of New Moon which I think is in my bookcase

Oh, and Sara Gruen is Canadian so if someone else finds 'asparagus' in their book we can use Karrie's book for the Canadian goal instead

message 432: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3759 comments Does anyone know of a quick way to search if a book has asparagus in it if it's not on an ereader? I don't think there is.

message 433: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Look up the book on Google books. You can search the whole thing.

Melissa wrote: "Does anyone know of a quick way to search if a book has asparagus in it if it's not on an ereader? I don't think there is."

Go to:

Search for your book name
Click on the book (note this only works if you see at this stage a preview is available)
Once the page opens, there is the book preview on the right and on the left hand side is a search box. Search for your word. Voila!

message 435: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Or click on the book on amazon's website to use the "look inside" feature.

message 436: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I just downloaded The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong who is Canadian. But I probably won't get to it until sometime tomorrow.

When does this round end?

message 437: by Karen ⊰✿, Fiction Aficionado (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16423 comments Mod
Good stuff Stacie. It ends Sunday (my time), but I think our goals just continue on. The difference is that we'll be combined with another team so can also access their goals and vice versa. Well that's my understanding, but I'm sure Kelly will tell me if I'm wrong! :o

message 438: by Kay Kay (new)

Kay Kay | 1794 comments That was my question!

message 439: by Kay Kay (new)

Kay Kay | 1794 comments Ok, 2 days 11 hours and about 34 minutes. There is a countdown clock in the All about Gladiator Games. So my time -- Saturday 7pm. USA Central time,

message 440: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3759 comments Thanks Karen and Joanne!

message 441: by Joanne (new)

Joanne You're welcome Melissa!

Ok off to do some cleaning and then spend some time on the elliptical. I should get a good chunk of my audio-book Murder at the Vicarage finished.

message 442: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3759 comments Since this round is almost over - does anyone want to use a Boon for one of the Canadian authors goals? Or should we hang onto them until next round?

message 443: by Joanne (last edited Aug 13, 2015 02:22PM) (new)

Joanne I would say we should hang on to the boon. Maybe it's because I'm Canadian but this one doesn't seem so hard. There are a lot of "find the word _______" asparagus, leek, watermelon etc that I think will be harder. Or if we get the dentist one again, lol.

That sounds good to me - I'm alright either way. I know there will probably be more difficult ones. I was only thinking of the time we have left. Most likely I will only get one more book done before the end of this round.

We did a really good job this round! :)

Melissa | 3759 comments Kelly wrote: "Karen wrote: "Good stuff Stacie. It ends Sunday (my time), but I think our goals just continue on. The difference is that we'll be combined with another team so can also access their goals and vice..."

alright - so when next round begins we will still have the same goals (and the ones from our combined team) but our points will all be down to 0. Is that correct? We don't keep our points right?

message 447: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I will for sure be finishing 3 more books this round, although none of them have a Canadian Author.

God-Shaped Hole
Open Season
Murder at the Vicarage

message 448: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments We keep points but they're merged with the partner team

Re: the rounds, the books read in book 1 can't be used for round 2 (3,4 etc.) so the more goals we can try and cover off with existing books the better prior to the end of round 1 to get our defence points up. Then the ones that can't be used as goals will remain for the challenge as attack points.

I think we have the boons for ones we are *really* stuck on. Like if we get the Central American author again! Or some of the other ones I have seen with finding words are pretty hard too

message 450: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3759 comments Ok now I understand. Thanks Karen and Kelly. :)
