11: A book from the Rory Gilmore challenge

Atonement by Ian McEwen
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
No
- Did you read other books from this list?
Yes- at least 36 - I understand the average number read is 52... I have some catching up to do

I'd never heard of the RG challenge before, nor have I watched Gilmore Girls.
I've read 69 so far and have a few dozen more on my TBR. The challenge has too many that don't interest me to use as a guide, but it seems solid for older and contemporary classics.

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Another book that I meant to read last year and didn't get around to (last year I was going to read this for the Banned Book week).
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Yes, I think it sounds intriguing, but I agree with E. Most of them are classics and contemporary literature so those are probably a good jumping point, but there are a few that seem kind of out of left field. I probably wouldn't be too interested in some of the more politically charged or feminist ones...
- Did you read other books from this list?
A few, but not as many as I would have liked/hoped. Some of these have been standing on my TRB shelf for a long, long time...

I'm reading The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
I hadn't heard of it!
- Did you read other books from this list?
I've only read 16 of them. Some of the others have been on my TBR for a very long time though.

- What are you reading this week?
"Brick Lane" by Monica Ali
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Yes, but until this challenge I hadn't thought of working on it, but now I am, with several books on this list also on the RG challenge. And I have just started watching the "Gilmore Girls" for the first time - loving it up to season 4.
- Did you read other books from this list?
I have now made a dint in the list reading 31 of the books, but I'm hoping to read all of them in the next 5 years, I hope.
I'm also working on this list, only getting into the Gilmore Girls this year, I'm loving Rory's book choices.

I reread Harry Potter och den flammande bägaren (Harry Potter 4)
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Yes, I heard about it, but there are to many books on the list I probably will never read.
- Did you read other books from this list?
I read 12 of them and have a few of the list on my TBR

I'm reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon.
*Did you hear about the Rory Gilmore challenge before?
Yes I had, and I already had started ticking them off! Gotta love a challenge ;) It overlaps quite well with the 1001 books to read before you die, which is a goal I really want to reach.
*Did you read other books from this list?
My current count is 39. Should be a bit higher once I get through my booklist for the year.

I just finished The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay.
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Yep. I love GG and I love books, so it has crossed my radar several times.
- Did you read other books from this list?
I did the checklist on ListChallenges and I've read 56 of them, including the one I just finished.
Also, if anyone knows what episode The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay appears in or is referenced in, I would love to know so I can go rewatch that episode and see/hear the reference!

Atonement by Ian McEwan

- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
I had heard of the challenge before, but I have never watched the Gilmore Girls
- Did you read other books from this list?
I've read 17 according to the list provided - though a lot of them are on my to read list

I read Of Mice and Men
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
No I hadn't heard of it before
- Did you read other books from this list?
I've only read 18 - not that great really.

A Clockwork Orange

Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Yes. It seemed like that's all my friends could talk about for weeks after the reading list was first published.
I had never seen Gilmore Girls, but after seeing Rory's list I thought I would give it a try. I couldn't get through season 1. I struggle to understand the appeal to the show, but I really love that Rory and that she was always reading. She wasn't a typical TV show teenager. I can respect that.
Did you read other books from this list?
This may seem weird because I didn't like the show, but I was so impressed with the reading list that I am doing the Rory Gilmore Challenge. It hasn't been a priority challenge for me, but I fit in books when and where I can. Besides just enjoy the massiveness and diversity of the list, I also decided to do the whole thing because I had troubles narrowing my selection for this challenge down to 5.

- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
No
- Did you read other books from this list?
I've read 11 and have 14 on my TBR list.

Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
I had not heard of it prior to joining the book challenge last year. It's pretty spectacular!
Did you read other books from this list?
I have and probably will read more as a part of this challenge.
I have read Clockwork Orange and Deenie this year already.

Did you hear about the RG challenge before? Yes, I had heard of it before
Did you read other books from this list? I have only read 39 books on the list but there are probably about 50 on my TBR. Someday I will get through them all...

Did you hear about the RG challenge before? No , never knew about it
Did you read other books from this list? Have read 30 it seems

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Mark Twain

- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
I know the show but I had never heard of the challenge before
- Did you read other books from this list?
24

The Sun Also Rises
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
No, although I watched and loved the show
- Did you read other books from this list?
I've read 108. I was tempted by Dreiser's American Tragedy for this week!

The Time Traveler's Wife
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
No. I knew of the tv show, but never watched it and didn't know Rory was such an avid reader.
- Did you read other books from this list?
I read 26. I don't plan on reading the whole list, but I keep track of it on a spreadsheet just out of curiosity to see how many of them I will eventually get through.

The God of Small Things
Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
I've seen it mentioned before but never actually taken a look.
Did you read other books from this list?
I've read 31 books off of the list. I'll probably forget about keeping track of how many I read though.

I read The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe.
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
I have heard of it before, but never purposely read anything from it.
- Did you read other books from this list?
In my lifetime I've read a decent amount of books from the list, but I've never tried to read more on purpose.

I read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Not until this challenge. This is surprising, given that the Gilmore Girls is one of my favorite shows. I remember first watching it and finding Rory to be one of the few teenaged characters on TV that I could actually relate to.
- Did you read other books from this list?
I've read 66 of them--there's also a few more on the list that I'm planning to read for this (the 52 weeks) challenge.

When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
No, I had not (thank you!)
- Did you read other books from this list?
I have read 94 of them and was surprised at the wide range of books that were included. The fact that they were all included in the show is pretty amazing.

For this week I will be reading Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
No, never. Having just read the blurb at the top of the challenge I am still none the wiser as I have never heard of the Gilmore Girls. Is it a US thing? Either that or I have been living under a rock.
- Did you read other books from this list?
Yes - to date I have read 59 from the list and there are quite a few that I am planning to read in 2016 as part of my 52 book challenge. However I'm not sure I will get around to reading every single book on there - it's a very long list!

Yep, it's a show from the US. It wasn't very big in Australia, but a friend of mine loved it and lent me her DVDs & I was hooked. I somehow had the idea it was something very straight-laced like Seventh Heaven (which I haven't seen apart from ads) but it was nothing like it at all. It was actually really enjoyable!

- Did you hear about the RG challenge before? Yes
- Did you read other books from this list? Yes

The Time Traveler's Wife
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Nop, I discovered it during the suggestions for the polls.
- Did you read other books from this list?
Yes, 40 not counting this one. Several others are on my 2016 TBR, but not a lot.

Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burges
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Nope
- Did you read other books from this list?
I've actually read quite a few of them

I could have really used this week to push myself to read something out of my comfort zone but I really wanted to re-read the Harry Potter series this year and I couldn't pass up an opportunity to fit the books into challenge categories since I'm doing so many.
Did you hear about the RG challenge before? I have heard of it before. I even have contemplated taking it up every now and then. But there are so many books on the RG list that I have absolutely no interest in reading. I feel like I'd be setting myself up for failure because I know I'd never finish it. It would be nice to make the book snobbish claim of reading all those books but, meh, I guess I prefer challenges that allow me to choose my own book selections.
Did you read other books from this list? I've read some of the books on the list and there are others on the list I probably would be interested in reading.

Emma
Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
No, I had not. But now I'm tracking which of the books I have read, although not necessarily making an attempt to read the entire list. There's too many on the list that don't interest me in the least.
Did you read other books from this list?
I have read 58 books in the RG challenge. Not intentionally because they were on the challenge. They were just books I have read that happen to be on Rory's list. By the end of the 2016 challenge, I will have read 5 more books on the RG list. Again, not intentionally.

The Fellowship of the Ring
Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Nope
Did you read other books from this list?
Yes, I've read 22. I'm currently reading 2, including the one for this week. I have 20 on my TBR.

I'm reading Bitch: In Praise of Difficult Women by Elizabeth Wurtzel. It's a challenging read, so it may take me the rest of the month to finish - essay by essay.
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before? yes - My daughter and I loved the show as she was growing up, and I was aware of the challenge before.
- Did you read other books from this list? I have read quite a few over the years. This year I've read Oryx and Crake and Waiting for Godot. There are a few others on the challenge that I will try to read later in the year as well - in particular, To Kill a Mockingbird.

Did you hear about the RG challenge before? Nope -- never got into The Gilmore Girls.
Did you read other books from this list? Yes, several. I chose David Copperfield because A Tale of Two Cities is one of my all time favorite books and I realized I hadn't read any other Charles Dickens.

Franny and Zooey
Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Nope.
Did you read other books from this list?
Yes, actually! I've now read 33 of them, and a lot more are on my to-read list.

Ella Minnow Pea
Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Yes, I had saw something online previously.

Did you read other books from this list?

Did you hear about the RG challenge before? Yep, I've watched (and enjoyed) the show, but found out about the challenge much later, through the List Challenges website.
Did you read other books from this list? I've read 69 from the list so far - there are plenty on there that I still want to read, but also quite a lot that I have no interest in. It's not a challenge I'll be completing, but it's still fun to tick some off every now and then!

- Did you hear about the RG challenge before? No
- Did you read other books from this list? I've read a few but not specifically for this challenge.

I watched The Gilmore Girls for a while. Rory always an improbable girl with the books she had read. I felt like a nube compared to her. So I was intrigued to see the list via Buzzfeed and GR a few months back. And surprisingly I have read some of them and some are on my TBR. But I haven't actually counted.

The Crucible by Arthur Miller
Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
I did! I heard about it online from a friend.
Did you read other books from this list?
I haven'tread many of them, but of the ones I have read, I don't remember them too much.

Ella Minnow Pea

I first saw this challenge on pinterest. It interested me as Gilmore Girls was one of the few TV shows I watched.
- Did you read other books from this list?
I've read 20 and there's another 20 I want to read.
It's interesting to see some of the lists vary a little and I've also noticed books in the show not listed.

Did you hear about the RG challenge before? I've heard about it before, yes.
Did you read other books from this list? I've read other books off of the list, but I don't know that I'm reading any this year.

Sophie's Choice by William Styron
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
I've seen the series some years ago, but I first heard of the chall..."
