Bel Canto by Ann Patchett

- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Probably from some listicle on Facebook, but I've never seen Gilmore Girls.

- Did you read other books from this list?
I've read at least 45, but there are a lot more on the list that look great!

Did you hear about the RG challenge before? No, but glad I heard about it now.

What are you reading this week?
The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion

Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
I'm a huge fan of the tv series so I've known about it for a while.

Did you read other books from this list?
I don't think I have. I've been tempted to start the challenge but I'm not a fan of classics, which comprise a large portion of the list. So I doubt I'll ever actually undertake the whole challenge.

J Austill | 1069 comments - What are you reading this week?

The Shining by Stephen King

- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?

No, I hadn't. It's actually kind of funny. I saw the prompt and thought 'hey, its a strange coincidence that the person that wrote the Book List has the same name as the character on that old TV show.'

I didn't figure out that it was referring to the Rory Gilmore from Gilmore Girls until a few weeks into the year. AND I did used to watch the show (a bit). It must have come on before a show that i watched regularly, possibly Star Trek: Voyager.

- Did you read other books from this list?

Looks like I've read 31. There are a few more books on that list which are also in my plan for this year and more that I will definitely read. But there are also quite a few that I would likely never read, so I don't think this is a list that I will ever try to complete.

- Did you hear about the RG challenge before? I did, but I never actually looked at it.

- Did you read other books from this list? I have, but most of them were forced reads from high school. It was hard to find one I wanted to read for fun.

Fahrenheit 451

Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Kind of. I'm one of the few who hasn't watched the show at all, but I saw the list a few years ago and was impressed by how many books and how much variety there was.

Did you read other books from this list?
I've read about 45 of them, and I have quite a few more that I want to read.

message 59: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Marro I'd never heard of this list before coming into this group (I'm still scrambling to get my reading plan for at least the last half of the year posted). I loved the RG challenge list. I've read tons of them and have long wanted to read many more. I watched the show exactly once and liked it well enough. No books were mentioned but I look forward to picking a read from this list.

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen.

Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
No, although I knew Rory read a lot.

Did you read other books from this list?
Some. I've started working on it although I doubt I'll read at least 1/3 of it.

It's amazing to see almost no repetition of books chosen!

I just finished Brave New World this morning.

- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
I haven't! I never watch The Gilmore Girls, although apparently there's quite a devoted following, and I like the idea of a character that's into reading.

- Did you read other books from this list?
Yes, 91 of them in all, but obviously not for this challenge. :D

message 67: by Susan (new)

Susan I read Rapunzel for this.
I had never heard of this challenge. I have read a few, about 19, from the list.

Karen (winterscomin) | 41 comments - What are you reading this week?
I actually read Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury a while back for this week's challenge, but I've had no time for progress posts recently (or anything else, really).
- Did you hear about the RG challenge before?
Nope, I'd never heard of it.
- Did you read other books from this list?
I skimmed through the list fairly quickly so I may have missed some, but it appears I've read only about 19. At least 3 of those only this year! And some of them I was forced to read for school, I really haven't read many classics.

Stacey D. | 1908 comments - What are you reading this week? I just started I'm with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie by Pamela des Barres.

- Did you hear about the RG challenge before? Not before it landed on the GR challenge.

- Did you read other books from this list? Yes, I've read about 100, but there are still many I'd never heard of till I came across the list. Rory was a voracious reader!

message 71: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (TheSlothReader) For this week, I'm reading The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I had not realized that the Rory Gilmore challenge was a thing because I've never seen Gilmore Girls. I've read a handful of books on the list, such as the Shakespeare and Austen works.

I have, both by watching Gilmore Girls and here on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ.
Did you read other books from this list?
I have read several, but Rory's reading is so eclectic and varied that it's not likely I will ever read everything on the list. Nor am I interested in trying! :)
