Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3238 comments Hopefully this is the right place to post it, but I've been watching BookTube videos recently and saw how many of them did tags about books they've read, books they want to read, their reading habits, etc. I thought it might be fun to try a few out -- especially for those of us who are interested in doing the tag, but don't want to make a video for it.

I thought I'd start out with a fairly easy one, and if people are interested I (or others) can post more. So here is the To Be Read Tag:

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
In the past year or two, I started really using GoodReads to find new books to read and keep track of everything that I want to read. I haven't really figured out yet how to separate books into different TBR shelves, so for right now they are all on a single shelf. As I start reading, I move them to "currently reading" and then "read" when finished. At the very least, it keeps an up-to-date list of books I'm interested in.

Is your TBR mostly print or ebooks?
I don't know what is technically on my list since I don't pay too much attention to which format I am looking at, but I only read print books. I find it really hard to focus on ebooks since I tend to just scroll through the pages without reading them properly.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
Just by my mood usually, or by browsing through my list and seeing what catches my attention. I have quite a few books on there that I don't recognize by their title. I know I must have added them for a reason, but i sometimes have to go through book by book and remind myself what they are about. From there, I pick what I feel like reading. I also get most of my books from the library, so I tend to order a few at a time and read them as they show up.

A book that's been on your TBR list the longest
The Great Gatsby, technically. I only started really putting together my list in March of last year. I instantly started adding a whole bunch of classics that I wanted to read, so this was really one among a whole bunch that were added within minutes of each other.

A book that you recently added to your TBR pile
I've added a lot of books recently. My newest hobby when I get bored is to just scroll through the recommendations pages and find new books that I might want to read. One of the books I added this week is The Thirteenth Tale

A book on your TBR strictly because of it's beautiful cover
I actually don't judge books by their covers at all, and don't really pay much attention unless the cover is really gross or scary. I never add a book to my TBR unless I've looked at the summary and thought I'd find it interesting.I guess the closest is The Whole Golden World, although I added that because of the plot summary not the cover.

A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading
Probably The Grapes of Wrath. I've added it because it's such a classic and always seems to come up in books everyone should read, but I just can't get motivated to really try it.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you're excited for
I just added a whole bunch of these because I was looking for books from this year for my challenges that I'm participating in. But the one I'm most excited for is This Is Where It Ends

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you
There are also a lot of these since I pulled quite a bit of my list from watching book recommendation videos online and scouring the GoodReads recommendations pages. The ones that I thought of first are Paper Towns, Looking for Alaska and Fangirl. Although that may be a little biased because of how many YA books I have listed. From the non-YA side, definitely Gone Girl.

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you
I actually don't have a ton of people recommending books to me, but someone recently told me I should read Ready [book:I'll Give You the SunPlayer One|9969571]. My friends and coworkers all know I love to read, but they don't often suggest anything for me.

A book on your TBR that you are dying to read
It's hard to pick one book specifically. Most of the books that I really want to read have been planned for my reading challenges, so it's kind of taken away some of the "dying to read" factor since I know they will be read. I'll have to go with I'll Give You the Sun or All the Bright Places since those were two books that I really badly wanted to make sure I got to this year.

The number of books on your TBR shelf
Right now, 588 and that's after me adding quite a few this evening. To be fair, many of the books on the list are parts of a series (ie. each Anne of Green Gables book separately) and quite a few children's books.

Francesca | 780 comments I love these! I'd definitely keep doing these if more get posted. I'm not a youtuber and I wouldn't want to make videos for them so doing them on here is perfect for me. Also, if any members are youtubers/booktubers leave a link to you or your name and then other members could come and watch your videos and support you. I'm always looking for more booktubers to subscribe to and follow!

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
I don't. That's the simple answer to that one. My TBR list on here and pile at home are both out of control. Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ has helped me to be a bit more organised, in that the challenges and the shelves helped me to choose books and read them to make my list smaller, but then Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ also helps me to find more and more books to add to my TBR list. So it just grows and grows.

Is your TBR mostly print or ebooks?
I mostly read print books so it's definitely majority print books, but there are some books that I will read on my kindle app instead.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
The challenges help me with that, as the slim my choice down to the 52 that are on my list, and then when I'm choosing out of those books which one to read next I just go by my mood and/or which book grabs my attention and excitement the most.

A book that's been on your TBR list the longest
The first book I added onto my TBR list on here is 1984. The book that's been on my actual shelves at home the longest, waiting to be read is probably It, although I'm planning to finally read it this year.

A book that you recently added to your TBR pile
The last book I added to my TBR list on here was Not If I See You First.

A book on your TBR strictly because of it's beautiful cover
I never choose solely on the cover, if the story sounds terrible I won't read it no matter how nice the cover is, however some books have drawn me in with the cover and then I've read the blurb and thought it sounds good. Two that I have yet to read with covers that I love are:
The Fifth House of the Heart by Ben Tripp and A Thousand Pieces of You (Firebird, #1) by Claudia Gray

A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading
There aren't any on my list that I'm planning on never reading, but I'm sure there are probably a few that I will never read. Due to me pushing them back on the list or just never getting around to them.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you're excited for
On the Other Side and A Study in Charlotte both come out this year and I'm really looking forward to both.

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you
There are so many! Basically anything by Rainbow Rowell or John Green, and Gone Girl. There are lots more, though!

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you
Gone Girl

A book on your TBR that you are dying to read
So many! A few that I'm really dying to read at the moment are It, The Fifth House of the Heart, Jimmy, The Blind Assassin, You, and Why Not Me? but there are so many more.

The number of books on your TBR shelf
A whopping 1,228. I have a problem, ok?

Zaz | 2969 comments How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
I use Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ and I've shelves for the books I really want to read soon.

Is your TBR mostly print or ebooks?
ebooks. I usually buy paperbacks only if I already read the book and loved it or if I'm fangirling the author. Borrowed books are paper ones, but I don't have many of them.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
It's rank on a challenge + my mood while browsing my TBR list.

A book that's been on your TBR list the longest
Dragons of Autumn Twilight. I'll probably read it at some point (because the authors), but it's a never ending series, so I'm not in a hurry to start it.

A book that you recently added to your TBR pile
The Odin Inheritance. I saw it recommended somewhere on GR, so here it went.

A book on your TBR strictly because of it's beautiful cover
I chose half of my books because of the cover... On the recent ones, Six of Crows is great, I really like how it play with the 2 pictures.
Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo

A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading
None! I add after looking at the reviews, ratings, etc, so it's when I'm really interested in the story (even if it's not for just now). I browse several times during the year so the books that are no more interesting are removed.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you're excited for
The Remarkable Journey of Charlie Price, the story will be in my comfort zone and it looks good.

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you
The Martian, I'll read it this year. Promise!

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you
My friends have different tastes, so I don't think there's still a book like this that's left, as I caught up plenty these past 2 years.

A book on your TBR that you are dying to read
Whatever Patrick Ness :p

The number of books on your TBR shelf
492 adult books + 104 children books.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
I don't, really. But I am trying! I have a lot of unread books here at home, plus way too many on my TBR list. I felt like my TBR list was getting out of control, and I wanted to clear it completely & start again, but I've shelved so many with different lists that I scrapped that idea. So instead, I've recently split my TBR list into the main "Want-To-Read" (which houses my 2016 challenge books) and a second "kinda-wanna-read" which has everything else. I'm thinking about moving some of my higher-priority TBR books over, but I'll probably end up just using that list for challenge books each year.

Is your TBR mostly print or ebooks?
They're just books. When it comes to reading them, I'll read them in whatever format I have access to.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
As I'm mostly challenge reading now, I look at my challenge spreadsheets & pick what suits my mood at the time. With the AtY challenge, I'm reading in order, so if I don't feel like reading what's next, I'll choose something from another challenge. I also have a bunch of lists that I'm working through, and I tend to prioritise books on those.

A book that's been on your TBR list the longest
I'm pretty sure that The Casual Vacancy was the first book that I added as TBR here on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, but there are a bunch of classics that have been on my mental TBR list for much longer. If you'd asked me a couple of weeks ago, it would have been The Crucible, because I've been wanting to read that since high school (and I finally did).

A book that you recently added to your TBR pile
I've been adding a few, as I'm shelving them for the various lists that I'm working on. But one that I added just because I wanted to was The Nightingale, after reading a thread here in the group where a few people were saying how great it was.

A book on your TBR strictly because of it's beautiful cover
There aren't any.

A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading
Probably quite a few of the science fiction books I have on there - it's just not a favourite genre of mine.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you're excited for
I don't have any, and I actually have no idea about any books that are coming out. My eyes are firmly in the back of my head as far as books are concerned!

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you
There are quite a few! More recent ones would be The Help, The Martian or The Name of the Wind. I'm hoping to rectify all three this year!

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you
Definitely The Name of the Wind - I have lost count of how many times I've heard how awesome this book is. It's actually only on my TBR list because of recommendations - I'd never heard of it until last year.

A book on your TBR that you are dying to read
I have quite a few that I'm really looking forward to - The Name of the Wind, Flowers for Algernon & If on a Winter's Night a Traveller are probably my Top 3 though.

The number of books on your TBR shelf
Umm, well ... 211 on the main one, and 1567 on the secondary. That's after I'd culled it to remove a bunch of series books (so I now generally only have the first or next book in the series on my list).

Marta (gezemice) | 859 comments How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, and I also have a bucket list on listchallenges. I felt that keeping the bucket list off goodreads was better because it is easier to see which ones I have read, and my TBR can contain other books, too.

I also have a "next" shelf for upcoming books (up to 10) and a "soon" shelf for books in the few months (up to 50). The next shelf usually has books I definitely am reading next - book club books, next from challenges, books I am reading with my husband or kids, or I got from the library and are sitting on my bedside table.

Is your TBR mostly print or ebooks?
As Jody, just books. When I get to them, I get the format that is easiest. I get a lot of books from the library, but if the book is free or cheap on the Kindle (lot of classics are), or the library does not have it, I get it on my Kindle.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
I usually pick from the "next" shelf based on my mood. Sometimes I just pick up a book that is lying around.

A book that's been on your TBR list the longest
I cleared mine off and re-added everything recently. In terms of wanting to read it, probably The Grapes of Wrath.

A book that you recently added to your TBR pile
I saw a thread about The Gospel of Loki and I just had to add it.

A book on your TBR strictly because of it's beautiful cover
I can't pick based on cover to save my life, so none.

A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading
None. I research my books, also, regularly remove books that I realize I will not read.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you're excited for
I do not add them until they are published, but I definitely am anxious for The Winds of Winter.

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you
Pride and Prejudice

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you
My friends also have different tastes, but Wolf Hall is one that was recommended to me.

A book on your TBR that you are dying to read
Wolf Hall :)

The number of books on your TBR shelf
195.

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3238 comments I forgot to mention, for the question about how I choose what to read next -- over the past two years, I've been doing reading challenges so that also narrow down my books to choose from. For this year especially, I went through the prompt list for both challenges, and wrote down tentative ideas from my TBR for each. I don't do the challenges in chronological order though, so I'm still pretty free to choose what I want from the list of ideas (and based on what the library has available).

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1729 comments How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
I did not have a TBR until I joined Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ last January. It was supposed to be a way to keep track of the books I owned and the ones I had already read. It is now multi-dimensional with a TBR, owned, want, ebooks, book club books, and more shelves.

Is your TBR mostly print or ebooks?
Some one on last years list mentioned bookbub, which I signed up for, and now I think my list of ebooks is as big as my print list. I read or listen to books in the format that I can get them in the easiest.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
Other than the challenge here, I start at the top and see what the library has in at the time. My children have also been handing me books to read, so those come first usually. I like to read books that excite them. It leads to great discussions.

A book that's been on your TBR list the longest
Through Black Spruce, it is on my challenge list this year.

A book that you recently added to your TBR pile
The Westing Game

A book on your TBR strictly because of it's beautiful cover
I usually pick books by the synopsis, not the cover.

A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading
The Lovely Bones, The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror: Tenth Annual Collection I do plan on reading these, just not right now. :)

An unpublished book on your TBR that you're excited for
I do not have unpublished books on my list. I do want to continue a couple of series, but will add those books when they are published.

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you
A Christmas Carol and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, they are both part of my plan this year.

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you
My Secret Sister, and Great Farini: The High-Wire Life of William Hunt

A book on your TBR that you are dying to read
Tarzan of the Apes and Jurassic Park are two on my plan this year I am really looking forward too. I really do want to read everything on my list though.

GailW (abbygg) | 616 comments How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
For years it was just the fact that if I wanted it, I bought it, and then I got to it when I could. Then I moved to the Pittsburgh area with a myriad of book stores within an hours driving distance. Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ has been wonderful for me. I have three TBR folders: "to-read own", "to-read nook" (those two so I knew where to find them) and then To Read (i'm interested but I haven't bought it yet). It also helps me to not buy the same book twice!!

Is your TBR mostly print or ebooks?
Both. Some authors I just HAVE to touch a book. Others, I am fine with reading them as an ebook, especially if it is a book I think my mother will like to read as well. Her eye sight needs the flexibility of the Nook.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
lol-first and foremost my mood. I'm doing a number of challenges, so I try to make sure it fits in at least one of them. Then, by the end of the year my Type A will kick in and it will be to finish the challenges.

A book that's been on your TBR list the longest
And Ladies of the Club by Helen Hooven Santmyer. I own it, I'm pretty sure it is a first edition and was published in 1982. I can't tell you why I haven't read it yet.

A book that you recently added to your TBR pile
Circle of Influence by Annette Dashofy. She is a Pittsburgh author of whom I just learned, nominated for the Agatha award with the likes of Louise Penny!

A book on your TBR strictly because of it's beautiful cover
I can't think of any, although I have been known to do that. Even if the cover is beautiful, if the book description is not compelling enough, I don't move forward with it.

A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading
I have a few, I'm sure. I just have not had enough gumption to weed them out of my list, either owned or want to.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you're excited for
The next book of Louise Penny, Jacqueline Winspear, Charles Finch, Charles Todd, Laurie R. King, Paula McLain, Kate Morton, Nicola Upson, Stephen L. Carter, Melanie Benjamin. OK, you get the picture, I'll stop now...

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you
The Red Tent. And I can't explain why I haven't done it yet.

A book on your TBR that you are dying to read
Orhan's Inheritance, A God in Ruins, and The Luminaries just to name a very few.

The number of books on your TBR shelf
oh boy... 654... split between 65 on my nook, 151 that I actually either own the paperback or the hardback (yeah, I don't take vacations...) and another 438 that are just on the list.. It's 9-10 years of reading at my normal rate and if I don't add/buy anymore. What are those odds?...

I haven't been doing the book tags as much as I would like so here goes!

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
I have my Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ TBR that I use occasionally for the different sort feature but most of the time I use the wish list on Overdrive.

Is your TBR mostly print or ebooks?
I really don't read print books unless I come across one for super cheap or I have to get something from the library due to Overdrive availability. 99% of my reading is e-books.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
A lot of the time I have to go by which holds have come through on Overdrive but I do have some freedom since the checkout period is 3 weeks. Other than that, I look at wish list and which books are available. After that, I just go by mood.

A book that's been on your TBR list the longest
I wiped out my reading list at the beginning of 2015 because so many had been on there for a long time. If I don't read a book in a relatively short amount of time then it usually means I never will. With that said, right now it is American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis

A book that you recently added to your TBR pile
Yesterday, I found a list of books that all women should read so there are a number of new additions on my list. The most recent: Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar by Cheryl Strayed.

Can one really keep track of their TBR pile? lol
Mostly here on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. I find its easier to keep all the books I want to read organized on this site. I also have a very big list of unread books on my Kobo library that I have not tracked on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. I have at least 20 books at home that I keep meaning to read as well. So I would really have to say that I am not doing a good job of keeping track of my TBR pile. There are always new books to add!

Is your TBR mostly print or ebooks?
I would say its split pretty evenly for me now. I do have a Kobo and I use it a lot! My Kobo library is almost as out of control as my print library now. lol

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
I decide mostly on how soon the library books need to go back. I have a very bad habbit of taking out 5 or more books at a time and taking out a few ebooks at the same time as well. So I try to read the ones due back first or the ones that can't be renewed because other people are waiting. For the most part this system works ok for me.

A book that's been on your TBR list the longest
The one that has been on my Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ TBR list the longest is Becoming Red by Jess Raven I added this book back in April of 2013.

A book that you recently added to your TBR pile
That would be All the Little Liars by Charlaine Harris. I add that one June 8 2016. I can't wait to read it this fall!

A book on your TBR strictly because of it's beautiful cover
This is how I use to choose all my books when I was younger! Not so much now but I would have to say that these 3 ended up on my TBR list first because I really liked the covers.
Dream a Little Dream (The Silver Trilogy, #1) by Kerstin Gier Compulsion (The Heirs of Watson Island, #1) by Martina Boone Blood Rights (House of Comarré, #1) by Kristen Painter

A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading
My TBR list has 471 books on it as of right now. I am sure there are some books on it that I will never read because they aren't high on my list to read but I don't think I have added a book that I knowingly never plan to read. I always add books with the plan that I will read them at some point. My problem comes when its a book that I am not sure if I want to own and the library doesn't have a copy of it. Those books I will probably end up never reading, unless I can find them for free at some point.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you're excited for
So many! Bay of Sighs,The Shadow Hour, The Angels' Share, Betrayals, With Every Breath, All the Little Liars, Into the Fire, Island of Glass, Shadow Rider

I am actually not too sure of this one. I am sure there must be but I couldn't hazard a guess at all.

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you

I think it's mostly print because I have a lot of older books on my TBR. There is only 2 authors that only do ebooks that I read.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
That gets figured out by whatever the challenge calls for, and if I have enough time I pick one of the books sitting on my bookshelf or on my kindle app.

A book that's been on your TBR list the longest
Witch Fall

A book that you recently added to your TBR pile
Children of Earth and Sky

A book on your TBR strictly because of it's beautiful cover
I have too many to mention. I am one of the guilty ones that will add a book just because I like the over.

A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading
I plan on reading every book on my TBR. The only way I won't is if I can't get the book one way or the other or if I die before I do, lol.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you're excited for
I don't have any that are not published. I add books that I can get from the library or that are part of Amazon unlimited for the most part. There are only 3 authors that I will buy the books.

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you
Geesh, I think I have a lot that fit this one.

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you
I don't believe I have any that fit this.

A book on your TBR that you are dying to read
Um everything I haven't read yet by Robin Cook, Terry Brooks and a few others.

The number of books on your TBR shelf
Right now, 2429. But now that summer is here and all the rummage sales, i'm sure that list will grow significantly.
