Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed a book from my Need to Read First TBR - Little Lady, Big Apple by Hester Browne. I was incredibly disappointed in this book! When I read the first book several years ago, I enjoyed the main character. In this book, I found her to be provincial and rather submissive. Not worth reading and I won't be finishing the series. 2 stars

Boo! I'm sorry. That's happened to me before and it does always spoil the series, even if you do decide to go on with it.

message 267: by Megan (new)

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed a book from my PB Library TBR - The Story of My Life by Helen Keller. First let me say that I admire Helen Keller a great deal, and she was an amazing woman who overcame incredible odds. That being said, I didn't really like her autobiography. She was 22 when she wrote it, and her lack of life experience shows. Worth reading once. 3 stars

message 273: by Sylvia (new)

Sylvia Swann | 8 comments Just finished Martha Stewart's How to Decorate and Martin Wood's Sister Parish: American Style. That's 2. I'm reading three others and will finish two more before May's end. I'm taking notes as I go through one of them so it's a bit slow.

Clear the Shelves should be an ongoing challenge we can join any time of the year. I'm probably in a more Clear the Shelves mindset in October when I'm pushing to hit my yearly goal. I try to hit my challenge number in early December. Then I start a couple of gargantuan books that I won't finish until January. That gets me off to a great start at the beginning of the year. I love that we're doing this!

A Time For New Dreams by Ben Okri
I find it difficult to rate this book, though I liked a lot of it. It's a kind of book you read in bits, digest and go back to.

message 291: by Willemijn (last edited May 16, 2016 06:45AM) (new)

Willemijn (willemijn_z) | 202 comments Please sign me up for 5 books. I've already read one of them.

My goal for this year was to read more books that I already own, rather than buying new ones. Needless to say, I'm failing miserably. I have been on trips to London and Porto this month, and have bought books on both trips. I'd like to personalise this challenge by reading those books this quarter. That way, they won't end up forgotten on my shelves.

Below is a list of the books I've bought, in the order in which I've bought them. I've already finished one of them, but I've bought AND read it in London two weeks ago, so imho it counts.

The Secrets We Keep - Jonathan Harvey
The Bafut Beagles - Gerald Durrell
The Drunken Forest - Gerald Durrell
Nineteen Eighty-Four - George Orwell
The Miniaturist - Jessie Burton
