To me I think it's an extremely selfless thing because you're literally spending so much time caring for your family even though it is not always reciprocated. Sure, everyone has things they can work on, but I'd gladly have a sister like you if I could and I think you need to accept some credit for the things you do. Learning German and failing it like a boss! If you drop me off in the country right now I won't be able to talk my way out because everything will be lost in translation. Also I guess I'm supposed to be caring for my family because...oldest kid responsibilities maybe? So it comes naturally and plus if I don't do it I don't know who will even step up -_- Credit? Mays, Mays, Mays, Mays! I know for a fact that no matter how bad you think you are at German, you're still way better than me. My first language is technically supposed to be Welsh, but do I know it? Nope! Can I translate it? Hell no! What an absurd question! You're definitely better than that! And not to forget, you're still learning all by yourself, so it can be hard initially. No no no! I don't know much because I'm the youngest, but I don't think affection is a 'responsibility' that older siblings have. It's something the best siblings intently possess for nothing but love in return. Just because you're the oldest doesn't make caring for them any bit less genuine, and if your family thinks otherwise, then are just not people in their right minds. Sorry if that comes off as something offensive, but I believe that is the truth. You're a great sister and individual!

Aww no problem :') Honestly though, to this day my dialect is terrible, let alone a whole other language. I think it's so brave to go to a country that doesn't speak a familiar language to study. While I get the eldest kid responsibilities bit, I don't think it should be a given and it certainly doesn't means your family can hurt you either. Frankly, I doubt I'd be this tolerant if I were in your shoes. If anything, they should cherish you more for what you do and the fact you're trying so hard to care for them.

It kinda sounds like Singlish, we basically mixed random phrases into the english language and just rolled with it XD Witenberg wasn't technically my first rp group, I joined a Disney high one but the group died right after I rped there for the first time. So Witenberg will always hold a place in my heart because it's the place where I figured roleplaying out xP

Hallie - Trust me the group was organised xP I'm extremely picky (I can't even begin to elaborate how picky) about how groups are run and set up because I only stick to one or two roleplay groups at a time. Perhaps the person had another point of view, but I felt like your group had very clear structure and rules :)

So my dad is an asshole. I feel like it’s somehow universally known, it’s just that no one acknowledges it. There are days when I would feel proud to have him as a dad, because on those days he’s super nice and wise and a great person. But if I had to count the good days and the bad days separately, there’s no need to compare. As irresponsible as she can sometimes be, my mom still sticks to being a genuine person. I don’t know what their relationship is at this point, but I know they don’t talk. I just don’t understand why my dad acts like I’ve committed a huge crime when/if he finds out I said a single hi to my mom. Or worse, ask her how her day was.

I haven’t seen my mom in ages, and I know she wants to meet me this Christmas, because my sisters have a long break. I think that it’s [very] normal for a parent to want to see their children, and I know that she still loves us very, very much. She and my dad don’t talk, so they never know of each other’s plans. All my dad does is occasionally talk shit about her and twist every situation around so that he’ll appear to be the victim. It’s so obvious, I even feel disgusted. He refuses to text her and things like that, but will take my phone out of the blue and scroll through my chat log with her. Then he’ll ask me what we were talking about, and then act like I murdered a person.

This man goes on and on about how much he loves �� or loved �� her but never shows her any respect. He never said anything to her on her birthday after they went separate ways and acted like he did nothing wrong. And guess what she did on his birthday? Sent me money and told me to buy him a cake, because he ‘works hard for the family��.

See, this is what it looks like not being petty.

My dad accuses me of hiding things about my mom from him, but I don’t feel comfortable even talking about her to him because he’ll start acting dramatic and organize a pity party for himself. As if he doesn’t do that 100% of the time. I don’t even know how to explain half the things he does because I never know where to start, but I know he’s manipulative as hell. I know he will hurt your feelings really bad, and then act like it’s your fault for being so sensitive and that he never even meant anything mean.

My parents are divorced and I agree, it sucks. My dad does stuff like this to us; it's obvious he dislikes my mom and my grandparents and refuses to see me and my brothers or even just talk to us, but when we don't talk to him on social media or call him he gets all uppity and starts saying stuff like 'why don't you talk to me anymore after everything I've done for you' etc. even though he hasn't really done all that much.

Yeah, I live with my mom obviously and my dad was talking about having us over for Christmas and then got upset when he found out Mom already had plans made, so instead of taking all three of us like he promised he's just letting one of my brothers visit him to be all uppity again.

I mean, my middle brother does really want to see him, but so does my baby brother. He hasn't seen him since he left us several years ago.

I just don’t understand what’s wrong with divorced parents being upset when their child wants to get along with both of them. They should try to understand, at least. My youngest sister misses my mom a lot, that I can tell, but my dad acts like her wanting to see her own mother is a sin and gets all moody after that. So it’s wrong that the kid has another parent? That you can’t get along with? Doesn’t necessarily have to mean the same for the kid and they don’t have to follow in your footsteps.

What's funny is that the family member I consider myself closest to is his own mother, and my grandparents are nothing like him -_-

I feel like my dad didn't really like my mom even when they were married though. I remember them fighting a lot when I was younger and several times when he was mad Dad would threaten to leave.

You're not alone; this is hitting close to home, although it was my mom who left. There were loads of fights during my childhood too, and I feel like my mom didn't like my dad that much, she was just young and confused. But sadly I can't do anything about it. I just feel a little strange when I look at my best friends' families and the feelings on the other side run really deep, and they feel weird too because my parents aren't together, and everything is just so hard to get out. "Where's your mom?" "Not here." "Why?" "Busy."

Most of the people I knew at school had divorced parents, so it was kind of the norm, but when it was actually happening to me I kept it a secret from everyone aside from my best friend, since I was still in a state of shock and never thought it would happen to me, you know?
