ALTERNATE LIST:

Each number corresponds with the spot on the board.
For colors: The cover has to be at least 50%
For locations: As long as the book takes part at all in the given location
For Shelves: Any book on the given shelf
For Publication Years: I'll be using how GR has it's publication date listed.
For Authors Names: The first, middle, or last name of the author is ok.
For Cover Items: Must have the given item on the cover
For Titles: Only the first word of the title. A, An, And, and The do not count.
So if the letter is B: The Best Day would be ok. Dear Betty would not be ok.

I'm really excited to play with all of you.

I read a lot of different books depending on my mood.

I don't really want to be Captain.

message 10: by Annika (new)

Annika I'm also a moody reader, and often have several books that I switch between :)

I don't want to be captain either. I'm already one for another challenge and feel I don't have the time to captain for another.

I'm guessing we have to come up with a team name as well. Any suggestions?

♎ Nereta♎ (littlecleo) | 65 comments I can be a captain if nobody wants :)

Team names:

Generous ladies
Speedy Bees
Racing Ladies

Any other ideas?

This book is one of Nancy Thayer's earlier novels. I enjoyed reading it, although the main character seemed rather superficial at times. I found I was a little disappointed in the book, I think I was expecting it to be like her latest novels, I just love her beach reads. If I was to recommend Thayer I would suggest her later novels.

Review:

I read the prequel to this series (Captured) I think some time last year. It was very interesting and led to me wanting to read the first book in the series.

Agent Emma Monroe works for the FBI on missing persons cases. She's after redemption. Emma is actually a Siren who is being punished (as well as her 2 sisters) by Demeter for allowing Persephone to be taken to the underworld. They weren't doing their job of protecting her. Now Emma wants to find people who have been taken in the hopes that Demeter will lift her curse and allow Emma, a.k.a Ligea, to return to Olympus.

Emma knows the consequences of falling in love. Demeter has punished her before. So she goes to great lengths to only keep her relations with men purely physical. But Emma is thrown for a loop when her new partner is Zack Armstrong, a werewolf. Zack worked on a case with Emma in South Carolina (which is what the prequel is about). They had a small thing on her last night there. She's worried he came to San Diego a year later because of her.

Together they are investigating a missing artist, with no clues as to where she could possibly be or who could have taken her, they investigate any leads they can. What they uncover is even more sinister than they thought and involves more than just one missing woman.

Cursed was very good! It is difficult to find a UF that is really unique. The pace was well thought out with no real lulls. I really liked Emma and the mythology involved. I also really liked Zack. I'm definitely interested in what comes next for those two!

Review:

This book was great. It was about boy and girl who becomes mates. Fane is alpha werewolf from Romania. He came to Texas as exhange student. He never knew that this trip will be faithful because he finally finds his mate. Jacque is human from Texas. Her father left her and her mother. She has two best friends: Sally and Jen. Jacque is sarcastic and witty person. I loved her. Sometimes I even laughed out loud because of Jen remarks. But it was also hurtful. Another alpha thinks Jacque is his mate so he challenges Fane to death match. It was hard to read how scared Jacque and Fane were. I loved characters and storyline. Thank you author for great work. Story was both happy and sad. And for me it was interesting from begginning to the end

Illuminate the Shadows by Isobel Starling
Read: 18/7
Rating: 3,5 stars
How it fits: 1st in series

Review
Illuminate the Shadows is the first book in the Shatterproof Bond series, but I still would recommend reading the prequel As You Wish before starting to read this one, to really get to know the characters better and their backstory. This book picks up where As You Wish left off.

Illuminate the Shadows was a highly entertaining read not credible in the least mind you, but entertaining all the same, and definitely worth reading! I feel like this book was mostly foundation building and it sets a good premise for an entertaining series to come. And no there are no cliffhangers in the end, just a solid HFN and a feeling that trouble isn’t too far away for the happy couple.

As for our main characters Declan and Sam; they are still a great couple, a bit quirky at times and they have a great chemistry. And for those of you with a weakness for the Scottish brogue you’re going to love Declan! :)

So grab a copy of the book, hang on tight and enjoy a wild trip filled with espionage and intrigue.

When I read the synopsis for this book it brought to mind one of my favourite books ON THE ISLAND by Tracey Garvis Graves. So I was really looking forward to reading it.

I found it to be okay, at times it was a little slow, I found it could have been much better, that the story started with a bang but the author fizzled out at the end.

With me I am a mood reader, I may read a book and not be very fond of it. And for what ever reason I reread it 'and what was I thinking before this is a great book'....I know CRAZY. Maybe this one did not hit a home run with me because I was going in already comparing it and hoping it was has great as ON THE ISLAND.

Review:

It has been quite a long time since I've read the first book in this series. But I've been meaning to go back, and I know I really enjoyed the first one.

Sara Ward is a werewolf shifter with a traumatizing past. Her sister Bathsheba is the human mate to Beau Russell, the alpha were-cougar. In order to get Beau's cousin Savannah back from a wolf pack that has kidnapped her Sara has volunteered to go to the wolves. But in order to stave off unwanted attention she pretends to be mated/engaged to a were-bear named Ramsey Bjorn.

Sara is tired of being fearful of those around her, and of herself. Her second nature was thrust upon her with no one to guide her or help her in accepting her shifter side. The wolves claim they'll help her, but really they just need her as female werewolves are few and far between.

There were a lot of unique elements to this. Ramsey was a virgin before being with Sara, which is unusual in most romances. It was interesting and added something different to the story line. Sara's haunted past added another interesting aspect. I think Ramsey and Sara needed each other for different reasons. They may not have thought their mating would become something permanent, but they really do belong together.

This series (so far) has reminded me a lot of Shelley Laurenston's Pride series. There isn't quite as much humor, but the feel of the books are very similar (if that makes sense). I'm excited to see where the rest of this series goes.

Review:
Finn and Dex.where to begin. On side had we have Finn, the über-talented and mostly undefeated pro-volleyball player. He is deep in the closet and on the more surly and the anti-social side. On the other side there’s Dex, the über-friendly and outgoing center of attention that could charm an eskimo to buy ice. Bitter enemies since college and now forced to play on the same team. Now there’s a recipe for drama and fights to come.

I’m sad to say I never really believed in Dex and Finn as a couple. There was soo much back and forth, starts and stops that I’d recommend a neck brace to avoid whiplash. There was no end to the drama and animosity between them, and in the end the reasons behind it all were a bit anticlimactic to say the least.

I had one major issue with this books and it was the whole Tristan situation. (view spoiler)

That being said I did enjoy reading the book and might give the others a try.

SYNOPSIS

It's 1126. Heulwen, daughter of Welsh Marcher baron Guyon FitzMiles, has grown up with her father's ward, Adam de Lacey. There has always been a spark between them, but when Heulwen marries elsewhere, to Ralf le Chevalier, a devastated Adam absents himself on various diplomatic missions for King Henry I. When Ralf is killed in a skirmish, Heulwen's father considers a new marriage for her with his neighbour's son, Warrin de Mortimer. Adam, recently returned to England, has good reason to loathe Warrin and is determined not to lose Heulwen a second time. But Heulwen is torn between her duty to her father and the pull of her heart. Adam is no longer the awkward boy she remembers, but a man who stirs every fibre of her being - which places them both in great danger, because Warrin de Mortimer is not a man to be crossed and the future of a country is at stake.

A medieval masterpiece with such beautiful historical detail and compelling narrative. Elizabeth Chadwick is a masterful writer in the historical fiction genre. Certainly knows how to bring the past to life, combined with an intensely gripping plot that keeps you glued to the pages.
Character-driven this is a book full of strong, memorable characters that pull you into the story and their lives, immensely moving.

Book: Cream of the Crop by Alice Clayton

Review:

Cream of the Crop is the second book in Alice Clayton's Hudson Valley series.

Natalie is a city girl through and through. She loves New York and more importantly she loves her job. She's a marketing executive at MCG. And she is excellent at her job. One of her best friends, Roxie, lives in Hudson Valley, and when a marketing opportunity pops up for the small town Natalie jumps at it for a chance to spend time with her friend.

Oscar, the dairy farmer, might have something to do with the reason Natalie was so eager. She sees him every Saturday at the farmer's market in the city and while she's usually confident, something about Oscar makes her nervous and unable to speak.

I enjoyed that Natalie wasn't the typical heroine in this romance story. She's a little larger than the typical female portrait, but she knows how to rock her body with confidence. It made her more comparable and easier to identify with (at least for me). She knows she isn't perfect. Natalie has a troubled past involving a man named Thomas, that keeps her from fully embracing whatever may happen between her and Oscar. She's not willing to give up herself for someone else.

In comparison to the first book, it wasn't as exciting, but that does not detract from the obvious chemistry between Oscar and Natalie. The story seemed to end a little too quickly, maybe a little more could have been added. It was resolved tidily, but a little too swiftly to be believable.

I'm very interested to see where the series goes from here. Clara sounds like a spit-fire, and her possible beau sounds like a challenge.
