I understand. You are welcome

Barbara Lockard | 3 comments Is it inappropriate to ask for the opinion of the beta reader as to whether the story flows, the plot line is consistent and interesting..., in short whether they would be interested in this story if they were not a beta reader? This is not for publicity or public knowledge. This work is not even finished. Just want to make sure my delivery i is not falling short of my intention.

Dakota Rayne | 199 comments Mod
Barbara, it sounds like you are looking more for a critique partner than a beta reader, but not inappropriate at all to ask. CPs are for workshoping incomplete works whereas beta readers are for polished pieces. I hope that helps!

Of course you can. That's what a beta reader is for. I have a list of questions I give my beta readers if you're interested.

Christina (nocyks) | 1 comments Hey! I'm a new author. I have self published my book on Amazon on Kindle Unlimited. I have not published the paperback version. I am looking for beta readers to look over it before I publish it in paperback. Is this acceptable to post in here?

Elaine Marsh (ekmarsh) | 22 comments Hello, Dakota. I am looking for a beta reader, but having difficulty posting my request. As soon as I've completed all the fields and click "post" I get a pop up that reads "Sorry, you must verify your email before posting a new topic." Feel like I'm being a little dense, but I don't see where I'm supposed to verify my email. What am I missing?

message 58: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Marsh (ekmarsh) | 22 comments This question has been posted here several times, but I don't see any answers: I am trying to ask for a beta reader, but after completing all fields, I get a pop up that says "Sorry, you must verify your email before posting a new topic." Does anyone have an answer to this issue? I've tried logging out and logging back in, but can't understand where I'm supposed to verify an email. Very frustrating!

Keith Oxenrider (mitakeet) | 1172 comments Try PMing Dakota and see if that gets her attention. I looked earlier and couldn't figure any way to trigger this.

Francisca | 5 comments Elaine wrote: "Feel like I'm being a little dense, but I don't see where I'm supposed to verify my email. What am I missing?"

You verify your email by clicking on the link that Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ sent to your email account.

There's nothing to do within the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ site. You must open your email account, search for the email and click on verify, that's all.

After that step is completed, you'll able to post without problem.

Edit: It tried it again. Same thing. What am I doing wrong?

message 63: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 3 comments Am I being ignored? I have sent a message to the moderator, but no reaction. I can't find any rules that would prevent me from posting...

I was so excited about this opportunity to have my writing Beta read. Please, don't disappoint me.

Keith Oxenrider (mitakeet) | 1172 comments Not a moderator, but also not sure what the issue is. When I view your profile it only shows your last post when it should show at least the two you have here. Have you messaged Dakota directly? I've found her responsive in the past.

Thanks for replying. Yes, I have messaged Dakota.
I posted my work twice. Both times when I was done I had a captcha to fill out, which I did. After that, it said I can post another message...

I've been a member of goodreads since 2014, but the email address was wrong all along, so this time I corrected it and verified it....

I'll check my settings to see if I made something invisible by mistake....

Thanks again.

Linda Burson (lindabursonsnetnet) | 7 comments I'm looking for someone to read BOOK 2 in my series (preferably someone who has read Book 1 - but it's not necessary). It's a romantic suspense/thriller, a bit dark.

Anyway, I'd love to find someone who loves to READ, READ, READ, READ. And is willing to do so within a few days.

Just want your thoughts on how it holds your interest, if it is easy to understand, not monotonous, and flows. It's been professionally edited, so that's not an issue.

Looking for someone immediately.

Thank you.

Fern Causon | 4 comments Looking for children’s book beta readers

Intended as the first of a series of picture books. Should be considered a bedtime story as opposed to a book for learning to read. Did have a group of mums I know personally offer but they’re just treating the process as a freebie book situation & not offering much feedback. Already have 5 other books in the series written so keen to get this process started. Thank you in advance.

Linda | 5 comments Dear Dakota:

I dutifully read the rules. I am HAPPY to post to the genre folders - IF I COULD FIND THEM! I have NEVER done anything like this before in my life. I loathe Facebook - the open sewer of the internet, IMO. I will cheerfuly, gratefully, happily post my request for beta readers in the correct genre folder if you will have mercy on me and tell me HOW. Where are the damned folders?! I have by dint of long pertseverence (I've been slogging away at this for over an hour, now). I figured out how to REPLY to your comment, but no folders, clickable links, or "Folder" headings appear no matter what I click on. Please be aware that I suffer from macular degeneration and really struggle with faint blue type font on a white background. Grandma is hopeless when it comes to online technology so I will need clear, step-by-step directions (and screen shots, if you can manage it). Please, I'm desperate for help with my book blurb and final-pass Beta Read.

message 77: by Ed (new)

Ed Zukusky | 18 comments I too am having problems. I see Beta Readers saying they are available, BUT I have no idea how to contact them.

I click on all of the links and no way to contact the Beta that posted availability.

I tried to post a new topic (I'm an author looking for a betas), and I got an error message regarding "Book this topic is about":
"1 error prohibited this topic from being saved: Context can't be blank"

And I tried typing my genre there, etc. But it always gives me that error. Please help!

Nicole Wells | 20 comments I am having the same problem. That's how I found your post. I figure the work around is putting yourself and your book as new identities in the goodreads system, but it doesn't look like anyone else has done that. Thoughts, anyone who has successfully posted?

Feel free to contact me for more details. I'm not sure how much to put here.

Thanks!

Hina Ahmed (hinaahmedwriter) Hello! I have written a 60,000 word novel of literary fiction. Titled 'The Dance of the Firefly' it starts in India in 1947 and ends in the current day in the United States. It traces three generations of a family as they move from India, to Pakistan, ultimately settling in the U.S. Some of the questions my book seeks to ask are the following: What are the trials and tribulations the family faces across generations? How are they managed/overcome and why? What is at stake for the characters identities and for the ones they love and how/why do these stakes effect their choices?

Thank you for your time and I look forward to connecting!

Hina

James Palfi | 5 comments My name is James Palfi and I have written a book called The Women's Club though I am experimenting with the title as I am hoping to get this traditionally published as publisher's don't like a self published book that previously has the same title.

The book is a Literary Fiction book about Sigmund Freud and one of his patients Naomi or Ms Nightingale who recounts mainly via dreams a society called The Women's Club who controls the world.

At first Freud thinks the patient is completely schizo defective but recent evidence namely in the form of a Codex causes him to reconsider his view on his patient.

It turns out that Naomi was telling the truth. That the women's club whose first member was none other then Mary The Mother of Jesus and that secretly they control the world.

Freud and Naomi go on a quest in order to discover the women's club and challenge what they understand about how the world is governed.

I am seeking free beta readers mainly to have a fresh set of eyes and pick up plot problems that I couldn't.

This book is about 70K words in length and is a Literary Fiction/Upmarket book.

My name is James Palfi and I have written an Urban Fantasy, Greek Mythology book called:

Gods Vs Men Book 1 The Resurrection

I was looking for a free beta reader for my book. I am also willing to do a swap, (You read my book and I read yours.)

P.S Because I am trying to get this book traditionally published I have taken the self published version off. I will email the document to those who are interested.

Synopsis for Gods Vs Men Book 1 The Resurrection

The Gods are ruling the mortals with an iron fist, sending wave after wave of wrath and hardships upon them because of this the mortals greatly despise the Gods.

Zeus King of the Gods is being weakened by the mortals not praying to him enough.

There is also a very old organisation called the Anti-Gods who have an inside tract to the Gods powers and are trying to destroy the Gods.

After Zeus kills the leader of the Anti-Gods and does everything, he can to suppress their numbers, the son of the Anti-Gods leader Heritone the main protagonist in this story, Heritone vows to get revenge.

After securing alliances he journeys to the vault of the Gods to extract the source of the Gods power and blackmail Zeus to resurrect his father or he will destroy the Gods.

Through this blackmail is Heritone’s ultimate goal to resurrect his father. But to resurrect anyone needs the co-operation of Zeus: power, Hades: the soul and Delphi: time. All Gods are connected to the source of the Gods power so if they do not want to be destroyed, they will need to reciprocate in kind to Heritone and resurrect Heritone’s father. However, there is the one exception Hades, who is tied into a different power source, namely fear.

Also, the throne of the Gods is in jeopardy as Zeus is being weakened after contenders for the throne arise, Hades is securing alliances to challenge the king of the Gods to take control of the throne of Mount Olympus.

In the end who will win the long-time leader of the Gods Zeus, the new contender Hades, or the mortal Heritone with a never say die spirit? In the end Heritone finds the source of the God’s power and they agree to resurrect his father and a contract between the God’s and Heritone and his father is established, a contract The God’s can not break. However, they kill Heritone’s friend and the man that led him to the Quest in the first place Heralestes in retaliation.

CJ | 9 comments Well, Dakota,

I was just at your profile and don't see a way to msg you, so here I am in this group.

I am brand new, just signed up.

I need your advice because I must have written a one of a kind story.

I need to know where to post my BISEXUAL NON-fiction story. It is a TRUE story so it does NOT belong in fiction.

It is around 4k words and looking to publish it, but need someone to peruse it and tell me if it's too offensive or I need to take certain material out.

Your suggestions?

message 95: by Steven (new)

Steven Sullivan (stevensullivan) | 2 comments Should one have the manuscript accepted by a publisher before asking for beta readers?

message 96: by Gill (new)

Gill Fernandez | 33 comments I would say no. You need your book to be as good as it possibly can be before submitting to a publisher. Beta readers and editors are part of the pre-submission routine.
