Wow, 5 stars!"

Yes. It's just one of those that make you love reading. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it just makes you feel good about love, life and everything else. There are probably people who will say it's too simplistic, not real enough, and all of that is true. But it was written with such hope and love for life and the will to become who you want to be. It left me feeling high and uplifted - so how can you not give that a 5 star?

message 252: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Well now that makes me want to read it haha. Reads like that are a necessary moment of bliss from time to time - at least in my opinion. Simplistic or not, any kind of book that makes you love reading is a good book in my book :-)

I really enjoyed it, even though it was a bit dark. It reminded me a little of Hunger Games or Harry Potter competitions but it was different enough I didn't keep comparing it.

You know, in the end I decided against grocery shopping. I might briefly pop into a shop on Sunday morning and pick up a few essentials, for the rest I'm going to make do until I have a couple of days off at the end of next week.
Though of course I did more sleeping than reading last night haha. But I did get a few pages read after all, so yay!

I've had that one sitting on my shelf for a couple of years now but never actually picked it up to read. Your description made it sound interesting enough for my curiosity to be once again piqued so maybe I'll pick it up as a reverse next month.

I've had that book show up a lot on my feed a lot, but I'm probably going to stay away from it. Sci-fi or dystopian aren't really my thing. - Even if Eldarwen keeps recommending them to me ;)

message 265: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1659 comments I don't think I would call it dystopia. It is defiantly science fiction. Hard not to be when set on another planet, Mars.

Eldarwen | 5004 comments It's BSB time again, so that series is popping up all over the place haha. Maybe some day I'll finally pick up that first book (which has been sitting on my shelf for... probably 2 years now) and see if it's a series I want to pursue ;-)

I am moving along nicely in Archangel's Legion (Guild Hunter, #6) by Nalini Singh or at least I was until I picked up Changes (The Dresden Files, #12) by Jim Butcher earlier only to have a little peek. First line had me hooked *grin*

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Ooooh, ugly cry book! I'll have to file that information away for when I need a book like that at some point haha.

Lol, no no LaurLa, finish your stacks first before you get addicted to a new kind of book reading ;-)

message 276: by Annika (last edited Feb 05, 2017 12:27AM) (new)

Annika | 1412 comments I'm not a huge fan of ugly cry books. I want to be happy when I read... That said I've been known to pick up a few of them anyway. I had a feeling my last book The Story of Us by D. Nichole King was going to end up in that category and was relieved when it didn't gut me.

Now I'm listening to Talking as Fast as I Can From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls, and Everything in Between by Lauren Graham , and am anjoying myself. I really like the insights and flashbacks to Gilmore Girls. :)

message 277: by Eldarwen (new)

message 278: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1412 comments I love it too. It just gives me this happy feeling. And it doesn't hurt thag they are insane most of the time :)
How far have you gotten, have you watched the entire series?

message 279: by Eldarwen (last edited Feb 05, 2017 06:38AM) (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Yep, watched the entire series, including the 4 new episodes! I actually watched the last one of those last Sunday with a friend (she's the one with the Netflix account).

I found the four new ones to be a bit odd.... But the series as a whole is great!

What about you? Have you seen the four latest episodes?

To be honest, I didn't like it that much and it felt a little like swimming through treacle, in parts. Onto the next one, though, which I've been looking forward to!

Annalisa | 1659 comments I finished Rebel of the Sands late last night.

Interestingly it only counts as:
1-first in sereis
3-Author Alwyn Hamilton

I thought it would have a character that could be used to expand the possible places it could fit but no.

I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did, because I did not care for the opening.

Annalisa | 1659 comments If someone else is reading Magic Bites this month, is it okay for me to read it? I have a stack of 8 books waiting for me to read them, so no problem if it is better for me to read something else.

Here are the books I have:
Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews
The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury
A Noble Masquerade by Kristi Ann Hunter
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
Dark Tide by Jennifer Donnelly
Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
The Iron Thorn by Caitlin Kittredge
Gemina byAmie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Currently I'm leaning towards Magic Bites or A Noble Masquerade as my next read.

message 287: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Yes, you can read a book even if someone else is reading the same one.

The only thing you can't do is read the same book twice within the time frame of the challenge.

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Quite a decent rating for the book! Are you going to continue with the series?

message 293: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments I'm loving Changes! This is one of the series that definitely keeps getting better the longer it goes on. Poor Harry keeps having to deal with so much crap, I keep wondering if he can ever catch a break. But then again, this is book #12 in the series and about the same amount of years have passed since the beginning of the series.

I'll keep the last 90 or so pages for tomorrow night as a bit of a balm for my soul after my dentist's appointment - I hate going there.... even if it's just a quick check-up which will most likely only take 10 minutes.

I'm also almost half-way through Archangel's Legion so I'm going to finish that up in the next few days as well. And after that, I'll see what I'll read next. Maybe I'll go for Grave Visions or maybe for something completely different ;-)

message 294: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1659 comments Finished A Noble Masquerade (Hawthorne House, #1) by Kristi Ann Hunter . I wanted to like this book, and I did for the first 150 pages and then it went downhill. I felt like the characters were replaced with not as believable alternatives. It started out very good too.

It counts as:
1-First in series
2- character name Trent
3- Author Kristi Ann Hunter
9- Title Noble
Skip- Author Kristi Ann Hunter

message 295: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments It's such a shame when that happens! 200 pages of not so good, especially after a great start, can be painfully long..

Hopefully your next book will be better again! :-)

LaurLa | 1005 comments Eldarwen wrote: "Quite a decent rating for the book! Are you going to continue with the series?"

I assume you mean Immortals After Dark? Yes, I'll continue. Here's what I wrote for BSBingo review...

Review:
I''m just getting started with this series and everyone keeps saying it gets better the further you get into it. I liked it but I'm not LOVING it like I was hyped to expect. I will agree I liked this book better than the first, so maybe that trend will continue. And I further admit that since they've killed off the 2 leading villains, I am wondering what's next...

So they've at least got my curiosity peeked but I'm definitely not in the I'VE GOT TO READ THE NEXT ONE NOW group. At least not yet. Supposedly I'll get there, though. We'll see.

Mmmhh true, I never really took the time to wonder about what would be next after the ending of that one because I really did not care about the main characters all that much. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to continue with the series. (Never read the first one since I was told it wasn't great and not necessary for the story.)

The first book was referenced. Seems like 1 and 2 were happening at the same time or at least overlapping. But you're right, I don't feel like having read 1 made anything better or clearer for 2. Like I said - I'll continue but mostly only as I need to fulfill PNR, fantasy or even mythology tasks for challenges.
