Jessica | 317 comments Wanted to drop in to let you know that I might be a little quieter than normal. My youngest son (2yrs old) was admitted to the hospital last night. I started Good as Gone (and added it to my Uno shelf) because it was a shortish audio that I had ready to go. I'll update the thread, but it is hard for me to update the SS from the app.

Natalie | 234 comments Finished my book and added it to the tracking post. I hope you son has a swift recovery!

message 54: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments I did finish another book earlier and added it to the tracking sheet. For now, I'm adding finished books to the tracking sheet and planned books to the sheet in the main sheet. If that makes sense.

Venecia | 131 comments Based on the books completed so far we have 5/7 completed for hand 1. We need a 7 and an 8 to complete it.

My current read is set in Saigon, Vietnam. I'm not sure if the Location is S or V as I'm just starting it.

Jessica | 317 comments TEAM!! Thank you for being patient, I hope we are all still in this :)
(Hopefully) Things will get back to normal now that we are out of the hospital.

I finished The One yesterday. Works for:

2 - Title
3 - 3rd in series
5 - Character last name (Illea)
6 - Character last name (Singer)
8 - Character first name (Elise)
Skip - Author name K (Kiera)

I'll add it to the SS. Whatcha guys working on?

message 59: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments I updated the main SS with everything we have logged up to this point. I also moved the tracking SS to the post on the first page so that it doesn't get lost :)

message 60: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments AND.... It looks like there is a mini challenge coming up soon!!!!

message 61: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments Still here just reading quietly in my corner :-)

message 62: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments Could someone explain the Draw two to me using an example with a hand? I've seen in some threads where it is said that it can use up to 3 cards from the hand? I thought it was just 2?

message 63: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments I was also thinking, since I have read 3 reverses, should we assign those books to those reverse cards and just read replacements for the number ones in the first hand?

message 64: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Adding another book, I didn't get a lot of reading done over the weekend. I blame the insanely stressful super bowl (despite the fact that it didn't start till Sunday night)

I have just been adding to the tracking sheet. Let me know if I'm needed to add anywhere else.

I have no idea for draw two, from the description I thought it was only use a book for two cards.

message 65: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments In the hands that we have a "Draw 2" card, we will use the same book for 2 other cards in that hand. Example:

The One

Draw 2--------------------- (we don't specify the book for this card)

Use for :

Card 2 - Title
Card 3 - 3rd in series

Perhaps other teams are confused b/c you do technically get rid of 3 cards in the hands that you have a draw 2, but you only use the book (and get points) for 2 of them. Does that make any sense?

Yes it does, thanks :-)

message 67: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments Sweet :) I highlighted all the Draw 2 cards on our SS. That helped last year.

Completed The Wednesday Wars. Fits for:

0 Stand alone
2 - Title
3 - Holling
6 Author last name Schmidt
7 Character last name Vendleri
8 Character name Edna
Skip Character last name Kowalski

I'll add to the SS tonight. I think we are doing exceptionally well for it just being the 3 of us ***misses Abigail :(***

message 68: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments What do you think about my saving the books to use for reverses comment?

message 69: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments Oh yeah! I think that is a great idea. I will look at those when I get home and rearrange the main SS. Good looking out! We have 7 reverse cards for the month!!

message 70: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments I got The Immortal Circus: Act One not long ago. I can use that for a reverse card

message 71: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Right, it does work for three cards, one book for two and then the draw 2 card itself.

message 72: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments Exactly! I wish we got points for the actual draw 2 card :(

Jessica | 317 comments I started Behind Closed Doors which is another reverse. AND... super excited my husband surprised me with Wires and Nerve, Volume 1 and I thought I was going to need to wait till after the challenge to read it (since it is a graphic novel). But I just found out that the word count is high enough! Oh Happy Day!!!

It is? Awesome! I just read it last night. I needed a way to get out of the rut I'm in and graphic novels are a good bet, but they usually don't count. I'll shelve it and add it to the spreadsheet.

message 79: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Oh, and then it can be another option for reverse!

Where did you find the word count Jessica? Was it arbookfind?

I ask because this was just posted in the Main thread
"please only use arbookfind for verification."

The question was posted in the captain's thread about that specific book. Annika said it was okay per Reading Lengths. This morning I saw that she took it back and said to only use arbookfind

So, we can't use it Natalie. Bummer. But, what did you think of it?

message 82: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Drat....I just finished another book (not graphic novel) so I'll remove it when I add the new one. I really liked it. I'm not crazy about the art style. Also, I have it on my kindle and for whatever reason it is formatted so I have to read it in portrait, so I see two pages at once, but they were a bit on the small side to read.

I'm looking forward to the next one!

Cecily Black | 148 comments Hey everyone!!

I am looking at all this and I literally have no idea what is happening!!
I started reading:
Moody Bitches The Truth About the Drugs You're Taking, The Sleep You're Missing, The Sex You're Not Having, and What's Really Making You Crazy by Julie Holland by Julie Holland not sure if that will fit anywhere when I am finished.

I don't have any other books right now as I took a break after wobble where I read/listened to 221 books!! So I hope I will be a great member of the team..

This seems like a chatty group and I love that in group challenges. :)

Cecily Black | 148 comments So from what I read we are working on hand 1
and these are the cards? <7, 0, 4, 8, 1, 4, 3>

I believe the book I am reading can only fit "0" as it is a stand alone.
Is there anyone that we NEED right now ??? Send me in the right direction pleeeeaaaassee :)

message 91: by Cecily (new)

Your book should work for 0 and 3.

oh okay, I see it now!! Was overwhelmed but now I am getting it and going through the books I just got from the library!

message 94: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Yup, the tracking sheet and the main sheet are the only ones you need to follow. You can either post your read books here with where they work in the tracking sheet or add them in yourself.

I don't think we have a plan exactly. Just reading and see where things fit it. We can move everything around at the end. For now I just stick things in where they fit with some sort of strategy.

I think all of us played Wobble, and this game is most similar to Wheelathon with spelling out. We can use author names or character names. The characters should have some sort of impact on the plot, at least a line or two.

I usually keep my phone near me with the following listing in a note:
Z -
O -
T -
H -
F -
I -
S -
V -
E -
N -
K/P -

I fill in series info, then author and then everytime I get a new character that fits I add them in. I probably miss some, but I try to fill as many as I can.

Right now, 5 and 7 cards (I & V) are ones we are looking a bit short on options for.

message 95: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments I cannot imagine coming in after the challenge has started. Natalie pointed everything out expertly ;) the planning sheet helps with moving things around, if needed, at the end of the month. I've been making a "completed" post if I finish a book at work b/c I don't have access to the SS from work. I think either way works perfectly. What do you guys think? Now that we have a full week completed, anything we need to do differently?

message 96: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments Terror in Taffeta will fill in the second Draw 2 card that we have in hand 10 :)

message 97: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments Here is what we need:

0 -1
1 - 6
2 - 4
3 - 4
4 - 2
5 - 7
6 - 5
7 - 3
8 - 5
9 - 7
Skip - 7
Reverse - 3
Draw 2 - 3
Wild - 2
Wild Draw 4 - 3

message 98: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments I'm curious about our strategy as I notice we are filling up later hands instead of the earlier ones? If I understand the rules correctly, we can only get points for hands completed in order, so shouldn't we be filling up hand 2 instead of 10. We won't get any points for 10 unless 2-9 are complete.

message 99: by Venecia (last edited Feb 11, 2017 12:14PM) (new)

Venecia | 131 comments Based off my understanding above, so ignore this if I am wrong. I was going to suggest that we start focusing on filling up each hand in order since we are about halfway through the month. So fill up 2 then do 3, then 4 etc. so we go to a more focused reading pattern with each of us saying which task we will cover.

message 100: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments Absolutely! We can start filling in order. Do you guys think we should move everything that we already have filled in for later hands and just call what we are going to read for from here on out? Or should we leave it as is and re-evaluate later in the month?

I was filling in the reverse cards and hand 10 had that pesky double draw 2. But you are right, since we are already half way through the month ***GASP*** maybe we need to rearrange some things.

I think we got off to a rough start with 1.) a missing member and 2.) that week my kiddo was in the hospital (I read next to nothing that week). I know we'll pick it up ;)
