Jessica | 317 comments Hiya team!! I am super stoked to get Uno 2017 started! Has anyone ever participated in the Uno challenge before? Last year was my first time and it is still one of my favorite team challenges!

I saved a post for our Uno shelves, so when you get one designated just post a link and I'll put them all in one spot for easy reference:)

Natalie | 234 comments Hi! This is my first time playing Uno, but I've done plenty of other group challenges. I've heard good things about this so I'm excited :)

Here's my shelf link

Lol...too many chiefs, not enough Indians....

Maybe they felt you needed a lot of supervision.

Have you been blabbing? ;-)

Natalie | 234 comments Abigail wrote: "Hey, my first time doing this challenge too; excited to start! And my shelf is here :D

Natalie / Jessica, how do you want to organize captain duties? Any ideas?"

I'm new to the challenge, so I don't know the best way to go about organizing everything, but I'm good with spreadsheets.

Question. I see we have to finish our first hand of cards before counting towards any other hands. Does it matter the order we complete after that? Also, can we bank books as we go?

And please don't let Abbie scare you :P Venecia and I are model teammates.

message 12: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments I think we are all checked in!! WooHoo!

So, we can fill spots anywhere on the spreadsheet throughout the month. However, books do not count unless all the previous hands have been completed.

When we started last year our team was "calling" spots and reading for specific cards. I felt that helped with organization. Towards the middle of the challenge we changed tactics and the co-captain and myself just placed books where they would fit based on the information provided by each player. We changed it up because we had one player that didn't like us moving around her "called" books. That being said, I think a combination of both work. We can call spots and in the completed post just list all other spots it might fit in the event we run into a crunch at the end of the month. We can post a tracking spreadsheet to keep us level.

What do you guys think?

message 13: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments I'm also waiting to hear about banking books, can't remember what we did last year.

message 14: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments No banking books, but a book started one month but finished in the next works :)

message 15: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments So as long as the book is being read for a task, it can be used, but not placed until the previous hand is finished?

And your plan sounds fine. I only get annoyed at my books being moved if it was pain to find something that fit and I really didn't enjoy reading it. The tasks for this seem pretty broad so I don't see that being an issue :)

message 16: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments I will read anything if it is necessary for a task, and honestly it would annoy me if I read a book and it never got placed. But you guys can decide which spot it works best for, that I don't mind.

message 17: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments And we have a pretty small team so we should be able to discuss things easily, I would think.

message 18: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments I totally agree. I think having a smaller team will work out better in that respect. What is everyone thinking of starting with? I have so many books locked and loaded that I'm sure I have something for every card.

message 19: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments If I understand the rules correctly, we have to finish Hand 1 before we can assign books to any of the other hands?

I will go with what ever plan or approach you guys come up with for tackling tasks, but I will say I prefer to read for a specific task when ever possible. It helps with narrowing down my reading list since I tend to arrange that around my challenge requirements.

message 20: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments Sounds good to me. I have a few planned books for next month, I'll make a post later today with them.

message 21: by Nichole (new)

message 23: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments Is my computer giving trouble or did some info get removed from the first few posts? I would swear that we had the details of each card listed somewhere. Also I thought my shelf was linked but now I don't see my name in the list.

message 24: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments We did, I'm having issues on my laptop. I was updating the links to our shelves and I lost some info. I'll see if I can fix it in a bit. Sorry.

message 25: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments If you go to the team spreadsheet at the top of the page, there is a tab that has all the rules/requirements within it :)

Venecia | 131 comments Jessica wrote: "If you go to the team spreadsheet at the top of the page, there is a tab that has all the rules/requirements within it :)"

Thanks :-) My internet is misbehaving so I wasn't if it was me or if something had changed.

message 27: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Books I need to read that I won't get to before Wednesday.

Acceptance - Fits for 3 and 7

Fae - The Wild Hunt - Fits for 1 and 4

Gamers - Fits for 0 and 1

They may fit for others, I don't know about all the characters.

message 28: by Venecia (last edited Jan 29, 2017 03:54PM) (new)

Venecia | 131 comments This what I have so far. I filled them out based on the blurbs, so they may fit more tasks once I actually get them read.

A Weapon Of Opportunity by Kiernan Kelly
Works for: 0, 3, 7, 9, skip

Blood Song (Blood Singer #1) by Cat Adams

Deeper Than the Dead (Oak Knoll #1) by Tami Hoag

Falling Down by Eli Easton
Works for: 0, 4, 8

message 29: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments TWO MORE DAYS!!!

message 30: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments But seriously, here is what I have lined up:

Terror in Taffeta
Cards: 1,2,6, or Skip

The Silent Sister
Cards: 1,6, or 9

The Wednesday Wars
Cards: 0,3,6 or 9

The One
Cards: 1,2,3, and Skip

And a couple others, but these are my library loans so I want to start with them :)

We have cards 7,0,4,8,1,8,3 in our first hand. I have access to the spreadsheet now so we can start plugging in books. Natalie and Abigail have you requested access? Hopefully you two have a better go at accessing it than I have. I can't access the SS at work so I will need to update it after I get home. Or ***gulps*** try to update via the app o.O

All four of us read a large number of books each month, so I know we can make quick work of the first 7 cards... then the board will be open to whatever kinds of madness we can conjure. LOL!

message 31: by Jessica (last edited Jan 30, 2017 07:03AM) (new)

Jessica | 317 comments Right now (without knowing what Abigail has lined up), we only have Venecia's book Falling Down that works for card 8. Since we have 2 of them in hand 1 I will focus on digging through my pile to see what might work for the other 8.

message 32: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments I have other books for 8 as well. If needed I can do it for card 1.

message 33: by Venecia (last edited Jan 30, 2017 12:25PM) (new)

Venecia | 131 comments Card = Frequency
0/Z = 2
1/O = 7
2/T = 6
3/H = 6
4/F = 4
5/I = 7
6/S = 5
7/V = 6
8/E = 6
9/N = 8
Skip/K or P = 8
Draw 2 = 7
Reverse = 7
Wild = 2
Wild draw four = 3

This is excluding Hand 1

message 34: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments I saw a planning/tracking sheet mentioned in some of the other team's threads, do we have one as well?

message 35: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments I can get us one. I think they posted a template in the captain's group :)

I am going to start with The Wednesday Wars for Hand 1 card 8; character name starts with "E" Mrs. Edna Bigio—the school cook who bakes cream puffs. I added it to the SS from the app, so I won't be able to make sure that it worked until I get home.

What is everyone else starting with? Anyone else excited?!?!

message 36: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments I am, I have books to read for other challenges that I'm holding off on so they can count for this. :-)

message 37: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments Yes! I am catching up on Podcasts. I didn't want to start a new book before the challenge starts.

message 38: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments I have two other books I will be reading. I will likely read Burn for Me tomorrow, which works for 1, 5, and 9. It's set in Houston, Texas, does that work for 2 or 3?

I also will be reading Divided Allegiance which works for 2 and The Chocolate Kiss (needs to be read by Sunday) works for 2, 4, and skip. Possibly others (characters/places).

What should I focus on? My other books can be read in about any order. I'll be adding two more to the pile tomorrow.

message 39: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments And sorry but asking again about the order. We have to finish Hand 1 before finishing books for other hands? Or just not place any books for other hands before hand 1 is done?

The rest of the hands can be completed in any order but we would only get points for consecutive complete ones?

message 40: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments I want to get that clarified as well Natalie.

message 41: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments I have the question in to the captain's group about finishing hand 1 before moving on. I thought I knew the answer to this, but now I'm not too sure. I'll let you know :)

message 42: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments Abigail wrote: "I kind of started a planning sheet on the spreadsheet, if you guys want to take a look? I think it's called "books" :) also yes, I'm so excited! I'm just catching up on my homework so I don't have ..."

This is the file was referring to, I've seen a couple of teams making reference to it.

message 43: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 317 comments I added a tracking spreadsheet on the first post above the links to our shelves. Abigail, I think I missed the tracking spreadsheet that you made, I can't find it. Does everyone want to use the one I posted provided by the mods? Venecia do you want to provide the cards that your books can fit in your "completed" posts and we can update the spreadsheet?

Check out This post in the main questions thread about what counts as a location. I would say that only Houston would work for Natalie's example. Thoughts?

I found out that we can work on any hand at any time during the challenge. We do not need to complete the first hand before moving on to the next. However, we need to keep in mind that we only get points for completed/ in order hands. Example: If we complete hands 1,2, 3, part of 4, all of 5-13, we will only get credit for hands 1,2,3.

We ready to start?!?!?!

message 45: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments We're off! Happy reading ladies.

message 46: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments Jessica do you want us to a completion post or just add the books to the planning spreadsheet or both?

message 47: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Okay, I think I understand how everything works.

For now, I think I will just read what I need to, and check it to see what cards we are short on options for. Let me know if you want help with placing the books into slots.

For the tracking sheet is the link to the template they posted for everyone? Or a copy so that we can fill it out?

message 48: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments It looks like the template, the other teams I saw had their copy named after them.
One of you capts should save our copy.

message 49: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments I copied it over and renamed it. Use this link:

message 50: by Venecia (new)
