Alexa Carver (alexacarver) | 195 comments Welcome to Team Darth Vader for Tower Teams V! I am so excited to be playing as your Captain. A little introduction: my name is Alexa, I'm from Indiana and I work at a local law firm. I like to read all sorts of books, but my favorites are probably YA and Fantasy. Tell me a little bit about yourself, I'm so excited to meet all of you!

message 14: by Tammie (last edited Apr 19, 2017 06:18PM) (new)

Tammie | 4177 comments Hey everyone! I'm excited for a 'new' challenge...love 'em.
I'm a Real Estate agent...it's my busy time, but I'm an 'empty nester' so I still have time to read quite a lot. I read mostly romance related books...but love just about anything except non-fiction...there are a few exceptions.

message 15: by Lesley (new)

Lesley (laparks) | 729 comments Hi everyone! I'm excited to get started too!!! It's been awhile since I was part of a team challenge and am ready to rock it!!! I work in the tech lab at our elementary school by day and work my Scentsy business by night and weekends! I have 2 sons (ages 12 and 14) who also keep me busy, running them around wherever their social lives dictate. My favorite reads are romance, particularly New Adult and steamy romances, but also like YA and cozy mysteries. Least favorite would be sci-fi, paranormal, dystopian and non-fiction books.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6263 comments I'm so excited. I was in one team tower and enjoyed it greatly.

Also loving the team combo and name!

I work as a secretary for a child welfare agency. I have one 15 year old son who will be turning 16 in May this year. I love reading, music, TV show marathons, my cat, am a Christian and a moderator in Admin staff at Christian forums for several years. I love walking, website design, and have ran my website The Paperback stash for about 10 years now. My favorite genres are Urban Fantasy, mysteries, horror, dramas and I love everything Superman or Universal Monsters.

Name of bookshelf: team-towers-5

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6263 comments It's cool we got the name "Darth Vader" of all things. Personally that's my favorite choice of names

Lisette (illusie) | 2 comments Hi everyone, I'm Lusie. I'm from the Netherlands, Europe.
I love reading and try to read more out of my comfort zone. My favourite genres are fantasy and mysteries. My least favourites are non-fiction and horror.

I'm currently reading The Well of Ascension. A shame I won't be able to use this book for this challenge. It has got many pages!

message 19: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I checked in like 50 times yesterday. You must all be night owls and early birds.

I'm your co-captain Mary but I'm hoping that means I just need to fill in if Alexa is out of town or something. I captained a round once before. A nasty player sending me a barrage of messages kind of ruined captaining for me.

I'm 47, single mom of a 19 yr old daughter and a 2 yr old Bulloxer (see my avatar if you want to know what a Bulloxer is: Boxer/bull dog mix). I'm currently finishing my BS in Business in Administration. I'll be done in July. That might cut into my leisure reading time a bit but might also give me some school books to count for this. So right now I mostly do audio books. Usually urban fantasy, romantic suspense, non-fiction and almost anything paranormal. I don't usually do straight out horror or Christian fiction or chick-lit. I only read the occasional YA book.

Oh and I'm in Massachusetts on EST.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I had to go look what I said my shelf would be called and then actually create one. TTV

I don't know how to create a shelf without putting a book onto it, but from now on I'll only use the shelf for finished books.

My heart is going to melt a little bit every time I see that dog avatar - so cute

For the bookshelf to create a new shelf without adding a book, you go to "my books", edit on the left hand side where it says "bookshelves" in small grey letters, and then you can add a shelf at the top.

message 22: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 2 comments Mary, your dog is cute. That I posted so early is because of the time difference :) Sorry you had a bad experience when you was a captain of a group. Let's hope it will be more fun now as co-captain!

This is the first time I joined the tower challenge. Have any of you played it before?

message 23: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments That's my Lucy and she is my baby. My boyfriend knows he ranks just below the dog.

I've played every round. They are good for encouraging me to read instead of watch TV or play on the computer.

I really hope they don't go insane with the mini-challenges for points this time. There were a couple of rounds where I ended up getting a bunch of library books to fit for challenges to get extra points instead of reading the books I really wanted to read from my own list. Don't get me wrong. I like some mini-challenges. Just hoping they don't go crazy with them.

I'm also not likely to do the BOM.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6263 comments Lusie, I did it once before, then I did Wobble. Both were a lot of fun. I was worried when they skipped it last year at the end that it wouldn't be returning anytime soon. Thankfully we were wrong - now I'm just anxious to start again.

message 25: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 2 comments lol Mary. Cute about Lucy and your boyfriend.

Nice that there will be mini-challenges! I was already wondering if we would get some tasks or if we just had to read what we wanted.
I understand what you mean! Sometimes challenges get in the way of what you want to read right now.

I'm not sure if I'll do the BOM. Depends on the books.

Erin, I did play wobble. That was my first team challenge. It was so much fun!! That is why I joined this challenge :) I'm looking forward to the start of the challenge too.

message 26: by Lulu (new)

Lulu (lulufritz) | 285 comments Hi everyone. I'm Lulu. Sorry I am late to the party. This is my first time participating in this challenge. I'm pretty new to this group too. I'm from Florida. I think it is cool that we are Team Darth Vader but I am not much of a Star Wars fan.
I am sort or all over the place with what I read but I'm not really into thriller/suspense stuff.
I'm pretty excited about this challenge :)

There are tasks and categories - however, you read what you want and bank the books to see if they fit later categories/tasks. That turns out fun.

message 28: by Heather (new)

Heather | 529 comments Hi everyone! I'm Heather. I currently live in Houston, Texas but hate it. I cant wait to move back home to Baltimore! I have a 21 yr old son, a 13 yr old daughter and a 3 yr old son. I also have one husband of 13 years.
I absolutely LOVED wobble!! Especially, the Olympics part. I love challenges but I need to be careful sometimes because I start reading things I wasnt interested in and forget to read "just for fun".
I can't wait to start this challenge! I think we are going to have lots of fun!
One last thing... My kindle doesnt automatically put in apostrophes and I tend to just leave them because I type so fast. So, I hope my typing doesnt annoy anyone...I promise I actually like all apostrophes, commas and puncuation! Lol

Here is my shelf: Tower Teams V

message 29: by Heather (new)

Heather | 529 comments @Mary I HATE that you had that bad "captaining" experience. I usually nominate myself as a captain but worry the entire time...Am I being too bossy or am I not giving enough attention or too much attention, should I back off some? I hope you will have a better time this time!

message 30: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 2 comments Erin, sounds like fun.

message 31: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1132 comments Hey everyone! I'm excited to play tower teams again this year! TT4 was my first challenge and I loved it. In fact, I was planning on taking a break from challenges, but couldn't resist signing up for this since I loved the last one so much!

Anyways, I'm 26 and live in the DC area. I do rotating shift work so I may be checking in at odd times depending on what shift I'm working. I like reading just about every genre, but have been pretty obsessed with urban fantasy lately.

Happy to be reading with all of you and I love that we ended up with Darth Vader as our name :)

Alexa Carver (alexacarver) | 195 comments Hi, everyone! I'm trying to reply on my phone while waiting to pick up my husband at the airport.
Mary, I'm so excited that you are my co-captain! Hopefully we will make this a much better experience. I'm pretty laid back and I'm not planning on going out of town anytime soon, I just started my job a few months ago and I don't get vacation until next year :(
I'm going to try and check in every night with our group on my computer, and I'll check in on my phone more often than that.
Last little captain note, thank you to everyone that has already posted your thread! If you haven't done so, please post this week with your thread link. I plan on updating one of the reserved threads with everyone's shelves once I get home tonight or tomorrow.

message 35: by Mary X (last edited Apr 21, 2017 06:12AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Heather, way to space out your kids. Sounds like my family. 2 oldest, then several years, then me, then several years, then 2 more. Although the last 2 were step sons that my mother raised.

I have only been doing team challenges like this and Bookshelf Bingo in the SOS group since I went back to school. Basically ones that aren't too demanding. Bookshelf Bingo is awesome for getting me to knock out multiple books in a couple of different series. I have a tendency to have too many series going and then have to reread to remind myself what happened-which makes me prolong finishing a series even longer.

I like TT because it just encourages me to read. Not that I ever go long periods without reading but this makes me boost it up.

Whenever I tell people my kids ages I always joke that I'm due to get pregnant again in another 8 years...well, 5 now. ;) Unfortunately, I would be 47 so that might be a BAD idea! Lol Baby fever gets me every time. I actually like them being spread out. They have all gotten their own time. If that makes sense. No sharing, really. Only my oldest son is in the Navy stationed in Japan so they will need to work harder to have a relationship when older.

message 38: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 2 comments Mary, I made an overview of all my unfinished series and was surprised how many I never finished reading! I have been working on it so it is a bit shorter now.

message 39: by Heather (new)

Heather | 529 comments Ok, I'm sorry if me not knowing is a bad thing but who is Harry Dresden? From a book or tv show?

message 40: by Mary X (last edited Apr 21, 2017 11:10AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Heather you wound me! Harry Dresden is the star of the Dresden Files books by Jim Butcher. I put that as my name years ago when I was in a group challenge with several other Marys as a way to differentiate myself.

Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher

message 41: by Halli (new)

Halli | 500 comments Hey guys! Sorry I'm tardy ... I saw the groups go up Wednesday and obsessively checked our thread while I was at work, then yesterday got stuck in a meeting ALL DAY & never got around to popping back in!

I'm Halli, 27 from SC. I have 2 cats & a husband of 1 year on 4/30 :)

My first challenge ever was WOBBLE & I've been obsessed ever since! Can't wait to try out Tower Teams!!

message 42: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 2 comments Heather, you are not the only one lol I had no idea who Harry Dresden was either, until Mary told us. The first book of that series has been on my tbr for a while, but haven't read it yet. Is Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher very good, Mary?

☘K²¹³Ù³ó²â¶Ù☘ | 124 comments hi all! this is my first time playing in this challenge, so please don't mind my fumbling! =)

i'm from the far south chicagoland suburbs...married with two furbabies...lily, our 10-year-old pitbull, and callie, our 3-year-old callico/tortoise/tiger-stripped kitty.

my shelf for this challenge is...c-tower-team-vader

@Lusie...i love harry dresden! i've listened to the first five on audio and enjoyed each one! james marsters (spike from buffy the vampire slayer) does an amazing job narrating!

message 45: by Alexa (new)

Alexa Carver (alexacarver) | 195 comments Looks like everyone is checked in for our team!

I've never read the Dresden files, but I may have to now that I've heard such good things about it.

As a conversation starter, what is everyone's favorite book they've read that many haven't heard of or read? I think mine is probably Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum , I couldn't put it down and even now when I think about it, it makes me smile.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6263 comments Underrated books that are by independent authors:

Big Numbers - his entire austin carr series is hilarious mysteries (there are 4)
Murder on the First Day of Christmas - excellent mystery novel (there are 2) by a mother, who died and then her daughter took over. So funny
Drawing Blood - good serious vamp book
Love, Death and Tea - hilarious comedy with zombies, vamps and paranormal creatures
Destruction - unique urban fantasy with magic

Children Of Chaos - very dark drama

Still Waters - very underrated ya novel that came out 2 years ago, publishing house and not independent. Was a debut. The writing is incredible

message 47: by Lisette (last edited Apr 22, 2017 07:36AM) (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 2 comments The Dresden files does sound good. I'll try to remember to read them soon.

Alexa, that book sounds good. I added it to my tbr.

I don't know any of those book you listed, Erin. I have added a few of them to my tbr.

I'll have to think about which good but unknown books I've read. All that comes to my mind at the moment is: In the Land of Tea and Ravens. It is a fantasy book It's a beautiful and mysterious story.

message 48: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I love the Dresden Files series. I might actually reread them. He's taking forever to get the next book out. I have a feeling he might be ending the series. But there's like 12 or 13 books so it had a good long run.

If you like magic and paranormal urban fantasy stuff then you will likely like the Dresden Files books. They are written by a man so there isn't much of a romance aspect like a lot of the UF by women.

message 49: by Lulu (new)

Lulu (lulufritz) | 285 comments Some books that I have read recently and not so recently but might not be that well known are

The Butterfly Garden
School of Charm
Night Shifts Black
The Native Star
A Certain Slant of Light
Reboot
