Jane (PS) | 24191 comments 1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.

2. Team Captain - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)

3. Name your team. Using this round's theme of CANDY LAND, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)

Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 6 September.

4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2.

5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!

* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.

You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.

I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.

Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.

6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation.

7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.

8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.

9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)

10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A Annoucement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.

The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

Jane (PS) | 24191 comments Key selection and completion post information. You must have ALL elements in your book posts.

For the initial selection post Option 1 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please insert a link to the qualifying bookshelf/list.
If the theme is based off the bookcover or a letter in the title etc, please just repeat the theme.

For the initial selection post Option 2 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.

For the completion post I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review

Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.

If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.

Jane (PS) | 24191 comments I'll be tracking each team's progress separately, using the Captain's summary in each team's thread to check for accuracy.

MountainKat | 30670 comments I'm home - finally! It was H-O-T, HOT!! out there today! Much nicer on my mountaintop!

I live in the boonies of SoCal - yes, SoCal has boonies. (That puts me on Pacific time.) I'm about an hour from everything, including the grocery store. Thank goodness for audiobooks! I read just about all genres and there are few taboos for me. So hopefully, my shelves will be helpful if you need Option 2. =) Lots of CR and RS lately though. I've played every round of the PtP and it is always fun, we've even won a couple of times.

After getting to know each other some, our first task is a team name. Candy land is our theme and the name should reflect that in some way. I will think about it some, and try to come up with some ideas. But I hope you all have some creative ideas to help us out!

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1346 comments Morning.
I think apart from Anna I've done challenges with everyone but never really chatted with you. I live in England so the theme is usually announced while I'm dreaming of grumpy book men. I pretty much only read Romance but across all the genres, so hopefully you can find something off my shelves if needed.

I've never played Candy Land as it isn't that well-known game here but I'll have a think on names. Have a good day.

message 15: by Aminko (last edited Sep 02, 2017 07:23AM) (new)

Aminko | 648 comments Good Morning Ladies,

I'm on the east coast of the US. I started listening to audio books a couple of years ago on the way to and from work. I love it. The only downside is that I have found myself taking the long way home in order to listen for just a a few more minutes :-)

I've played a couple of rounds of pass the parcel and had a ball every time. I'm really looking forward to playing with you all. I read a wide variety of genres but tend to read more romance than anything else but hopefully there is something interesting for anyone that wants to take advantage of option 2.

Like Tink, I've never played Candy Land but will also try to make a useful suggestion....

message 16: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12231 comments Hi Everyone!

I'm super excited to be playing with all of you! Thank you MountainKat for being our captain!

Like Aminko, I'm also on the east coast of the U.S. We've really had a beautiful summer here in NY :)

I have most genres of romance on my shelves, with my historical and paranormal titles being older. I mostly read Contemporary romance these days, but there is a smattering of everything else thrown in. Romantic suspense is probably the most lacking on my shelves.

I am very acquainted with Candyland, having played it as a child and also played it with my own kids.

I will try and think of some team name suggestions......

Fran | 12231 comments Gumdrop Gals
Lollipop Lickers (hehe)
Candy Coated Readers
We love Man Candy
Sugar and Spice
Eye Candy

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1346 comments My vote goes to Lollipop Lickers ;)

message 19: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 30670 comments I guess I should have specified when I said I read all genres that I meant all genres of romance! I didn't even think of it because about 99.9% of my reading is romance. =P

I remember Candyland as a kid, and then again with my kids. We currently have the Disney Princess edition for the grandkids. We also have the Marvel edition of Chutes and Ladders to balance things out. =) Though the Wi and iPad are more popular. Oh well, at least they like to read!

I like Lollipop Lickers too. Eye Candy is also cute. The only idea I came up with is Candy Castle Crashers, it's got alliteration but no humor.

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1346 comments I'm just going to send friend requests to everyone as I have a closed profile.

message 22: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5074 comments HELLO EVERYBODY! How are ya?

I'm Chan. I live in Georgia, USA. I read romance, but not all romance genres. I'm squeamish and don't like things that go bump in the night. So, I stay away from horror, most paranormals, and b/c i'm a hopeless romantic - I don't do love triangles very well. However, I do love suspense and action. Mmmm...those really get me going :o)

It's great to virtually meet you all!

I think Lollipop Lickers rates high on my list too. but just to add to the list how about:

Taste Like Candy
Chocolate Thunder
Gummy Readers
Gingerbread Downunder
Candy Castle Crashers
Naughty Cake Commons
Nut Her Butter (get it? instead of nutter butter)

Anna Serene (anna_serene) I'm here I'm here!

Anyway, I'm Anna, I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I read a ton of smut, but I have recently been on a re-reading rampage, had a two week MC romance binge, and have been blowing through the In Death series by JD Robb. You've been warned.

Any book suggestions are welcome! Love triangles are the bane of my existence, I've been pretty well sticking to romance of all sorts–especially of the pnr/uf variety, and contemporaries. But I am pretty much open to anything.

I played Pass the Parcel in the last round so I'm all set :)

message 36: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 30670 comments Yay everyone has checked in! Looks like we are spread across the US and England, so not too terrible on the time differences - at least not night and day differences. Jane is looking to do an early call, like she usually does for the first week, but we need a team name first.

The suggestions so far:
Gumdrop Gals
Lollipop Lickers
Candy Coated Readers
We love Man Candy
Sugar and Spice
Eye Candy
Candy Castle Crashers
Taste Like Candy
Chocolate Thunder
Gummy Readers
Gingerbread Downunder
Naughty Cake Commons
Nut Her Butter

Any others?

I think Lollipop Lickers was the most popular, but let's give it a little longer for suggestions and then we can vote!

message 37: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 30670 comments I guess everyone is busy with the holiday, except Tink who is probably just busy with the weekend. I'm going to say we have enough suggestions (unless someone has a flash of brilliance!). So, everyone give me your first and second choice and I will tally it up so we get a favorite!

I'll go first:
1. Lollipop Lickers
2. Eye Candy

I'm in mad panic mode getting everything ready for my kids going back to school tomorrow but I'm always around. I'll try and stay up late on our last call week so I don't reduce any chance we have of winning seeing as I'm the only one outside the US

message 41: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 30670 comments Good luck with back to school Tink! I remember how crazy, but usually in a good way, that could be! That's good of you to volunteer to stay up late, but you never know how this challenge is going to end - in a few hours or a couple of days! I think as long as we all pick shorter books, we have a chance no matter what. It is just impossible to read 500 pages as fast as others read 100 no matter how fast you read.

And what were you doing up in the middle of the night Fran?! I saw your comment just as I was going to bed and we were up way too late here. You need to sleep, you will be dealing with preschoolers soon!!

message 42: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12231 comments LOL! Kat, you are too funny....and very observant! I should definitely be getting to sleep earlier!

message 43: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 30670 comments Shoot, that is even worse than I thought! I figured you just woke up in the middle of the night - not that you were still up! =0

message 44: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 30670 comments Still looking for votes from Aminko and Chan, but four of us have voted for Lollipop Lickers as our first choice, so that is looking like a consensus. I will wait until tomorrow evening my time, I'm out all day, to let Jane know. If we want an early call we need to get our name in!

message 45: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5074 comments Hola All. I hope you enjoyed the holiday weekend as much as I did. I accidentally had FOUR glasses of wine. I was feeling really good.

My vote:
1. Naughty Cake Commons
2. Lollipop Lickers

message 46: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 30670 comments I'm going to send our name to Jane now! Lollipop Lickers is the winner. Looking forward to an early call tomorrow! =)

message 47: by Chan (new)

Chan | 5074 comments Heads Up: I will be traveling across a few states tomorrow, but I will return home and have the review up before the due date.

I won't be as active and my selection post may be extremely late. I may be able to periodically check GR, but posting will be a challenge.

message 48: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 30670 comments Hopefully you can check and see what the theme is and read if you have any free time! Have a good trip and travel safely!

I was just wondering if you were in an area that might be affected by Irma? I think my family in Georgia is far enough inland to avoid most of it. I know they have been affected by storms before, but just the remnants - nothing like the coast! I know Florida is most likely to be hit, but the models were saying it might go up the east coast too.
