Thanks for checking in! And yeah, it is a lot collectively. Definitely very proud of the whole team :)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Mini Challenge Update

Hi all!

Just wanted to give you a little update on Feb's mini challenge since the month is (somehow) almost over already.

Part 1
All six books have been read! Currently, by my count, 4 of 6 comments have been made to other teams' threads for those books read. If you haven't left a comment and read a book for that part, please do so when you get a chance before the month ends. It's an easy 5 points, and with so many Draw 2 cards this month, each point counts :)

Part 2
We are down to 10 books left to fill. I'm trying to finish one for Team Grus now, which would take us down to 9. I plan on making a list in the next day or so of alternate possibilities for all the placed books so if you finish one and can't figure out an open spot where it fits, I can move books around as needed to get us as many points as possible!

Thank you so much to all of you for your hard work all month long! :)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Amanda A wrote: "Can the connection be a word in the title?"

Unfortunately, no :( If the titles are the same and it's just a one-word title, that is allowed, but not just a word in the title.

message 211: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 87 comments Just finished The Merciless III: Origins of Evil by Danielle Vega but I'm struggling to find where it could fit in the mini-challenge!

It features supernatural women, exorcisms, and has a symbol on the cover only aside from the title/author.

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Sarah I will check and see what I can find. What are some of the main characters names? Same character first or last name should count, so that’s an option too if we can find any that match. If you just let me know character names for the book you read, I can look for connections with the others.

Oh! Okay, characters names were:
Riley, Brooklyn, Elijah, Hope, Gavin, Pastor Joe/Joe.

Book: Wait Till Helen Comes by Mary Downing Hahn

I couldn't find any connections for the cover and I have to go to bed, but I can look again tomorrow. Just thought I'd post it in case you could think of some way it could fit before I'm able to get back to it.

Characters are Molly, Michael, Heather, Helen, Dave, Jean, and Mr. Simmons.

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments I believe I have found a place for both of them!

Catie -- Just by reading the description of that book, it sounds like there is a ghost character that can communicate with the human characters. Is that accurate to say?

message 216: by Catie (new)

Catie Currie | 133 comments Yes! There is a ghost that communicates with the characters, thank you!

message 217: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Catie wrote: "Yes! There is a ghost that communicates with the characters, thank you!"

Great! I'm using that to connect it to Harry Potter (Nearly Headless Nick character). Just had to do some switching around of some others, but I have both that one and Sarah's The Merciless III: Origins of Evil added in.

Everything posted up to here is now in the spreadsheet.

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Hi team!

We are in the last day of February and we are so close to done with the mini challenge! I still have to add a few of your books this morning, and then we are just a few books away.

All books for the mini challenge and comments for part 1 of the mini challenge need to be completed before reaches zero for it to count for the mini challenge. Anything finished after that we can start counting for March!

message 221: by Catie (new)

Catie Currie | 133 comments We only need one more book to finish the mini-challenge! Does anyone think they will be finishing a book in the next 13 hours? I believe there's a bonus for filling up all the slots!

message 222: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments I think Amanda may have a few? It looks like there are some on her read shelf from the last day or two that she hasn't posted here yet (because I know she usually waits to post a few at a time). I just always feel a little creepy if I just am adding books from people's shelves before they've commented :)

Amanda -- those good for me to look at connections for?

And yes, there is a completion bonus if we finish both parts! So if those books are good to go and I can find connections for them (whether on the open team or on others so I just need to move things around) then we will just need one comment from Part 1 still to get us the completion bonus!

message 223: by Charly (new)

Charly Hart (charlyhart) | 212 comments I plan on finishing “Dorothy Must Die tonight! I don’t have to much more to read. Just need to get off of work to read! Great job everyone this month!!!

Amanda A | 290 comments Kaley wrote: "Amanda -- those good for me to look at connections for?"

Yes, I have not had a chance to look for connections yet. I don't mind if you add books from my shelves before I post a completion.

If Charly's book works for a connection, please use it instead and I will take the last few books off of my Uno shelf.

Hi Charly -- were you able to finish this last night? If not, no big deal because we can use something else, but I wanted to see if you finished first!

message 227: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments description

We did it! We finished out February strong. I still have one book to add to the spreadsheet later today, but we will have finished the whole mini challenge and, pending the mods' approval of all the connections in Part 2, will get a completion bonus as well. You all worked so hard in February, so great job!

And now here we are in March! So that means....shifting focus to March cards. We have 15 hands this month and 8 colored cards, plus 4 Wild Draw 4 cards.

Here are the color cards for March:
6 Yellow
1 Red
0 Green
1 Yellow
8 Blue
0 Yellow
5 Blue
4 Yellow

Let me know which you all want to claim! I can take either 6 Yellow or 1 Yellow with Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder (Hannah Swensen, #1) by Joanne Fluke and 8 Blue with King's Cage (Red Queen, #3) by Victoria Aveyard . . . I'm in the middle of those two anyway.

And most of these we can have a duplicate for since we have a few Wild Draw 4s. The only one not to duplicate would be whatever we use for 6 Yellow, because that one is in the same hand as a Draw 2 and Wild Draw 4, so we can use that the Draw 2 to make that one book count for both.

I'm glad you liked it! At some point I will have to try to read it again since I never got to finish it.

message 230: by Catie (new)

Catie Currie | 133 comments I didn't like it as much as I thought I was going to. I really love the original Oz books and I generally like spin-offs, but Dorothy Must Die rubbed me the wrong way. You'll have the read the second and tell us how it compares to the first!

Sarah | 87 comments The colour cards confuse me a little bit, do they have to line up with the number AND colour?

For March so far I am planning to read Heart of Mist (this one is 86% blue! Not sure if it can count though?)
The Gender Secret by Bella Forrest
Blood Moon by John David Bethel

I haven't thought much further ahead than those three, but I'm sure there will be more :)

Yes, they have to match the color and the card number! That's why they require a little extra planning ahead of time :)

So for example, this month I'm finishing up this one: Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder (Hannah Swensen, #1) by Joanne Fluke

Which can count for our 1 Yellow (first in series), 6 Yellow (Character last name Swensen) or 4 Yellow (Author last name Fluke), but it cannot count for 0 Yellow because it doesn't fit the criteria for a 0 card.

Regarding Heart of Mist, our only blue cards this month are 8 & 5 ... so just by looking at the title/author it wouldn't be able to fill a colored card, but just be on the lookout for character names that start with E or I when you're reading to see if they can :) If not, no big deal because it will definitely fit somewhere!

From what I found it could fit 1 (first in series), 8 (E title), 9 (CF: Nathan), Skip (CL: Poole), and Reverse because Nikk has read. If when you have time you see anything I've missed, let me know :)
