Melissa Davis | 790 comments I'm choosing Slave to Sensation for my Futuristic Romance - shelved 13x. It's been on my TBR forever. This will be my 1st time reading Nalini Singh but everyone seems to love this series so I'm not too worried.

For my Free Space, I'm going with Burn Bright by Patricia Briggs. I'm using Free Space option # 2 UF list # 68 - Alpha & Omega.

Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh Burn Bright (Alpha & Omega, #5; Mercy Thompson World - Complete, #15) by Patricia Briggs

In this installment Aly needs to rescue Morpheus and Jeb from Any Else Where (not sure if it’s one word or not since I listened to the audio). This is a dark version of Alice in Wonderland, sometimes a bit disturbing. The world that was created was a bit demented. In the books, Alice in Wonderland had a bit of darkness, this one was on a whole different level, especially the Queen of heart and the Red Queen. I did like that Morpheus and Jeb finally found some common ground and was able to do what was best for Aly when finding a cure for her. I don’t know what I think about her being able to have her cake and eating it to with both Jeb and Morpheus. I loved both characters and wanted Aly to be with both of them, however I really didn’t like how the ending was written. Probably because I would have like more with Jeb.

Review: I missed these characters sooo much! I loved all the time that was spent with the supporting characters ... Asil is one of my favorites! And I really loved Wellesley ... I think we're going to be seeing a lot more of him in the future. Oh, the traitor! I would never have guessed and I was totally heartbroken but ... super excited for all the possibilities that the ending implies!

My two cents about the Bran/Mercy controversy: (view spoiler) So, until I hear this "truth" from Bran's mouth, it's just gossip to me.

I was so shocked too. I kind of feel sorry for Leah about who is was.
Asil is one of my favorites characters. I would love if he got is own story. I really want him to be happy again. I just don't see it happening any time soon. Uggh..so angry at the traitor for hurting him more.

Completely agree about Mercy and Bran.

Week 1 Futuristic Romance
Book Lake Silence
Date Read Mar 9
Shelved 2 times
Rating 3 stars

I was a little disappointed with this book because I really wanted expected it to revolve around the vampires because of the last book. Other than that, new characters and locations are introduced along with how the settlements/villages are trying to get back to “normal after what happened last summer.
After putting in the work and money to get the Jumble ready for business, Vicki starts to have problems. It started with finding a man dead and alerting the authorities. Life starts spiraling out of control for Vicki with a corrupt detective trying to get her to confess to murdering the man when it was obvious something larger did the deed. At least there is one honest cop, Intuits and Others who are willing to help her. The whole thing gets really messy when her ex-husband comes to town with his collogues and causes more problems. Eventually the Elders take care of business and puts everything to right.
I think the author went over the top with how horrible the villains were. It was to the point I had to wonder how anyone would want to do business with unethical, misogynist, corrupt, entitle jerks. Along with the catty wives. I probably would have like the book more if she didn’t go so far with the villains in the book. I felt like she had a check of horrible attributes and made sure she hit every single one.
Is the book worth reading, yes. I do enjoy this series and will read the next book hoping there is more about what’s going on with Ilya and Natasha’s mating.

Shelf #1-Futuristic Romance
Book: Dark in Death Dark in Death (In Death, #46) by J.D. Robb
Author: J.D. Robb
Date Finished: 3/10/18
Rating: ★★
How it fits: Shelved 3 times on the Futuristic Romance list

Review: So I've been a diehard fan of JD Robb and the In Death books since Naked in Death first came out. Some of the stories have been really awesome solid 5 star reads, and some have been mediocre. Unfortunately, this latest installment falls firmly in the mediocre category. The killer was pretty blah, and I really didn't feel the urgency and drive to solve the murders that I usually get from the stories and that makes them so much fun for me. I also pretty much felt like the author was just checking off boxes, like "Roarke and Eve have sex" check; "Eve consults with Mira"-check; "Eve has a weird dream"-check. It just made the story kinda boring and frankly, I was pretty damn disappointed. But like I said earlier, some of the books are super great, and some aren't. It's just too bad this one wasn't one of the great ones.

Ora (oeamis) *

1. What book or series would you force your enemy to read?
Twilight series. I attempted to read the first book and couldn't finish it. My sister convinced me to read the next one. I couldn't read 50 pages before I told my sister I was not going to read the next one. All I thought about was poking my eyes out with an ice pick would be less painful than reading the series.
2. What book have you tried to read several times but haven't been able to finish?
If I put a books aside I don't go back to it.
3. What book has a close friend recommended that you ended up loving?
years ago my sister recommended Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. Night Embrace is one of my favorite books in the series.
4. What book in the last year took you the longest to read (cuz you're lazy!)
Not so much lazy as I struggled with the book that was a buddy read. Van I love this series, not this books so much. The heroine was introduced a couple books ago and I liked her then and loved her brothers. This book all I wanted to do is slap her.
5. What is the fastest book you've read in the last 5 years because it was so damn good!
I will go off my most recent book Burn Bright
When there was only 6 books in the Fever series, I read them within a week.
6. Clear your mind...what are the first three books that immediately come into your mind?
And Then He Kissed Her
Magic Triumphs
First Frost
7. Last book you will admit to skimming? (Cheater!)
I don't skim books too much anymore since i listen to more audios. I have increase the speed on books I just want to get through. Last book I sped up was Jack of Hearts. It was a re-read.
8. What author, if they secretly dropped a brand new book tomorrow, would you immediately have to buy and begin to read ASAP!
Just one?! It's impossible to name just one author. Mary Balogh, J.R. Ward, Ilona Andrews, Monica Burns, Lauren Blakely off the top of my head.
9. Favorite book/type of book to read in bed and by the pool?
Romance, as far sub genre it depends on my mood.
10. What book would you give to your best friend and force them to read because it's so good?!
Moon Called Everyone should read Mercy Thompson.

Melissa Davis | 790 comments World's Worst Book Tag

1. What book or series would you force your enemy to read?
The most painful book series that I’ve read in the last year would have to be Elemental Assassin. I know people love these books but I just don’t. Gin gets on my nerves with all her waffling between being bad ass and a whiny puddle of mush. JUST BE A BADASS ALREADY!!
Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep

2. What book have you tried to read several times but haven't been able to finish?
It by Stephen King. I have tried and tried and tried but I have such a hard time reading Stephen King he’s so long winded that I have a hard time staying interested while I wait for him to get to the point.
It by Stephen King

3. What book has a close friend recommended that you ended up loving?
My friend Tammie recommended Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander Series I thought that I hated time travel until I read about the MacKeltar Clan. Daegus
Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning

4. What book in the last year took you the longest to read (cuz you're lazy!)
Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison I had this book out for over a year with back-to-back renewals on Overdrive took me forever, which is a shame b/c I really ended up liking it a lot.
Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, #1) by Kim Harrison

5. What is the fastest book you've read in the last 5 years because it was so damn good!
There are so many that I have just devoured over the last 5 years. Most recently was Burn Bright by Patricia Briggs.
Burn Bright (Alpha & Omega, #5; Mercy Thompson World - Complete, #15) by Patricia Briggs

6. Clear your mind...what are the first three books that immediately come into your mind?
1. Flame in the Dark by Faith Hunter
2. Scourged by Kevin Hearne
3. Six-Gun Snow White by Catherynne M. Valente
Flame in the Dark (Soulwood, #3) by Faith Hunter Scourged (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #9) by Kevin Hearne Six-Gun Snow White by Catherynne M. Valente

7. Last book you will admit to skimming? (Cheater!)
I almost never skim. I usually DNF if it’s that rough; but, Cincinnati's Savage Seamstress: The Shocking Edythe Klumpp Murder Scandal by Richard Jones I mean, look at that title I should have known better. Anyway, I had to read a True Crime to check off an item on the Read Harder Challenge. The whole book read like a really long news article. It was so painful.
Cincinnati's Savage Seamstress The Shocking Edythe Klumpp Murder Scandal by Richard O. Jones

8. What author, if they secretly dropped a brand new book tomorrow, would you immediately have to buy and begin to read ASAP!
If Unholy Luck by Stacia Kane ever comes out, I will call in sick to read it and re-read it and re-read it. We’ve been waiting .. sooooo … loooongg . There is no cover for this book that only exists in the collective subconscious so I'm gonna leave this right here in case you haven't read this series ... We're always looking for more unwitting victims to share our pain ...
Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane

9. Favorite book/type of book to read in bed and by the pool?
ALL. THE. BOOKS.

10. What book would you give to your best friend and force them to read because it's so good?!
I recently gave my bestie Omens by Kelley Armstrong & The 1st Midnight Texas book by Charlaine Harris because I thought she would enjoy them. She loved Omens but idk if she ever read the other one.

I have forced the Black Dagger Brotherhood on quite a few friends. My next mission is to get them on the Jane Yellowrock bandwagon. It is so good I can hardly stand it. I need more people in my life to talk to about it.
Omens (Cainsville, #1) by Kelley Armstrong Midnight Crossroad (Midnight, Texas, #1) by Charlaine Harris Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1) by Faith Hunter

Review: Wow, it was wonderful to delve back in to the amazing world that Thea Harrison started in the Elder Races series. This time she focused more deeply on the Fae, specifically the Light Court vs. the Dark Court. I loved the fact that the "good" guys were from the Dark Court. I love an anti-hero and Nikolas fits that description perfectly. He's cold, uncaring, and vicious, up until he falls head over heels for his Sophie. I gotta tell ya, she was an awesome heroine. Talk about not taking any shit from anyone, she put him in his place so many times, I was thinking of making a drinking game out of it. I laughed out loud every time she called him an asshole. Anyway, awesome story, I can't wait to see what happens next.

This is a series I am slowly working through. It has been a while since I read the prior book which made it a little difficult to follow for a little bit until my memory was jogged. I think when I pick up the next book in the series I will be reading it. I just didn’t really care for some of the voices for the narrator used. One in particular reminded me of Groucho Marx at times. That is not the voice I think of with any paranormal creature. Hard to take anyone serious about being a badass with that voice when you’re wondering if he has a cigar or waggling his eye brows..
There are lots of things happening that isn’t put together for the big picture until Idess realizes that her brother is behind it to get his revenge on her. It turns out it was also a test for her to see if she would get her wings by willing to make sacrifices. Prior to meeting Lore all she wanted was to get her wings. She is willing to lose her chance at becoming an angel to in order to help Lore kill her brother.
I do like how the author sets up the next book nicely. I am actually anxious to read the next one so I will probably not wait a year to read it.
