Discussion of chapters 1-3
My thoughts so far...
First off, the cover. IT'S SO PRETTY. I'm not even ashamed to say that this was a definite cover buy. That map at the beginning of the book though--IT'S GORGEOUS
I don't like present tense normally in books but this is okay, the writing style also is not to my liking but I love the way the author describes the other Season citizens. (Also in the first chapter in uses these brackets () and I really don't like brackets in books! I just think that that's a lazy way of writing and isn't necessary, though it is probably the style) Also, the overuse of semicolons made me cringe. But the action scenes are really well done! I can be put to sleep by some action scenes in other books(sometimes literally) but this one is keeping me at the edge of my seat!
It mentions our main protagonist, Meira, has a frisbee-like-blade-throw-thing which sounds so cool! A "Chakram" it's called, and I really want to see that in action! I was kinda having trouble picturing it so if you were the same, here's what a "chakram" looks like. Turns out, it's on the front cover, so it must have a part to play in the book:
I dunno if this the chakram in the book can spilt in two but there we go.
Meira...well I don't know what to think. Obviously I can't make any comments on her character because we're so close to the start of the book, but I quite like her...but then I don't like the fact that she lied--or rather got Mather to lie, but you can't have all positive characteristics in a YA character it seems. She seems like a really strong female lead though and I want to read more about her.
Also, Mather is another character I really want to know more about, in fact I'm just really invested in all these characters and the plot.
So, in chapter 3 we're going on a mission with Meira and Finn and the chapter's ended on a cliffhanger (luckily, I've just read this part this morning, so, since it's discussion day today, I can read about what happens next!) I think the author could have left this scene until we really felt for the characters to make it more exciting. But it is exciting nonetheless and I really want to know what happens next!!

Also, do any of you want us to add more chapters to the weekly amount? These chapters have turned out to be quite short.

* So I didn't like how Meira has already had a crush on Mather. I would like to have seen them both fall for each other throughout the story.
* I feel like Sir/William will turn out to be a bad guy or somehow be their enemy later on in this book or the series.
* The last thing, I think that somehow Meira will rise and rule the Wintertarians
Alos i would add more chapters

I feel the same way about everything. It would be so much more interesting to see them fall in love instead of her already being in love with him.

-Also is Mather with them on the mission? Or is he at camp with his "injuries"?
-I love the cover too. The lockets pretty cool though.
-I don't care how many chapters we do. We can do more like say maybe 5 chapters? Or keep our desired 3. Doesn't matter to me.

Overall, I’m super excited about this read. It’s already amazing and I’ve only just begun!

I'd want to live in Autumn. I look like a mix of Winter and Autumn (I have really pale skin, dark brown hair, and hazel eyes)
Discussion of chapters 4-9
My thoughts so far:
I love Meira's sass! especially when she comes back from the sewer adventure and saunters into the tent 👌
Btw, does anyone know what the lockets actually do? I'm so confused.
I don't like Sir... When it says he always tells the truth and he tells her it wasn't her fault that the enemy soldiers found their camp...who's fault was it then?
Same with everyone else, I wish they'd be some background chemistry between Mather and Meira....
So, we have got ourselves some tropes; 'forbidden love', 'underappreciated girl' and I daresay there'll be more, but overall, I'm really enjoying it so far.

This week is chapters 10-15, but it's flexible so we could easily pause if anyone's behind on reading it.
I've just finished reading for this week, so much I wanna talk about on Friday!

Okay, do you want us to pause the reading, or do you think you can you get up to chapter 15 by Friday?

I can get up to chapter 15 by friday :)

~ I too love Meira's sass, such a sassy pants towards Sir. I also believe Sir and Meira are related in some way as I've already stated.
~ I like how we had some character development with Winter (is that a thing?) Meira, and Sir. I feel like I know them better than before.
~ The relationship between Meira and Mather is going a little too fast. The kiss, while it was sweet, was a little premature for what was happening.
~ There is also something fishy going on with the kingdom they are currently staying in and I'm eager to see what happens.

I can't for you to read on! The kiss thing gets sort of explained as you read farther in... ;')

Discussion of chapters 10-15
This will hold spoilers for those who haven't read up til now
Well, this book took an unexpected turn!
So... Theron. Okay, I'm not gonna lie, I'm falling for him <3<3
I don't know why Meira's complaining--she's going to marry a really nice guy!Nicer than MATHER Is that the worst thing in the world?
Urgh Mather is so annoying! Why didn't Sir and him tell her? Why not?! Surely they'd know she'd freak out...so why didn't they??!
I was going to say that Meira is overreacting but then I remembered (correct me if I'm wrong), isn't Meira 16? Okay, now I see why she's freaking out.(but I still ship Theron and Meira)
In that scene where Mather and Theron fight, I love how Theron asks Meira whether she minded him fighting or not, so considerate <3
I find Meira a bit childish sometimes. (Like when she's at the training grounds and she's blushing at the sight of shirtless men, my eyes could not roll further back! I mean yeah, she has been living in a camp, completely secluded from, anything really, but still...)
Also, as Theron was taking Meira through the servants walkways, it mentions that he glances up at a room with (can't really remember) is it regret, did it say, on his face? I hope that gets resolved by the end of the book. And I really want to know Theron more. Spoiler for a book, Shadow and Bone > (view spoiler)
Anyway it's getting reeeally interesting and I can't wait to see what happens next!

First off what the heck is happening. I feel so bad for Meira, she shouldn't have to do all the things she is being forced to do. She should be able to make her own decisions and fight for herself. I think she will end up running away from Theron. I am starting to ship Theron and Meira as well, I will just have to see what direction they take the book.

I did not see that coming. Both Sir and Mather is beginning to annoy me so much. I get that they have to do what is best for Winter, but still this is wrong, and how could they do it without even TALKING to Meira before doing it. I also am starting to ship Theron and Meira, he is so considerate both, as LydiaMae said, when he and Mather was fighting and when he found out that Meira didn't know about the marriage <3

Aw NO! That happened to me when I was reading Throne of Glass! I only read chapter one, went on Pinterest and then I knew ALL the spoilers! Every lil' one! Ugh I feel terrible for you!

Discussion for chapters 15-20, contains major spoilers for those who haven't read up til 20
I actually laughed when Meira had that tantrum, wasn't very believable.
Why on earth did Sir punch Mather? I mean, yeah he's annoying as anything but punching the King of Winter? Hmm.
R.I.P. Sir, though. I never liked Sir but there we go. It's like that quote, "It's not the death that hurts you, it's the reaction of their loved ones." still don't know where I've heard that quote :/
The battle scene was well described, but I (as I almost always do), found myself getting lost on what was happening.
And now we're at Angra's palace-place-thing where he can break and fix bones with his staff. I didn't really see the point of that whole scene at the end of chapter 20. Does this mean Angra will leave them alone if Mather dies?

Discussion for chapters 21-25
This is the sort of book you read in one go, so I kind of regret my decision to read 5 chapters a week :/
But anyway, I have to admit, Meira in the work camp was boring me a bit. But now Angra's called for Meira, things are bound to get moving/exciting...
Oh yeah and when they were in the "memory tunnels" it said, "All Winterians are cradled in bowls of snow on the fifth day after their birth. I've never seen a Winterian baby cry during this ritual--in fact, they seem to enjoy it." So..... aren't the Winterians human? Seriously though... it makes me wonder what race or being we're dealing with....
I think we'll finish the book this week(if you haven't already), so that next Friday will be our last discussion.

Well, the last discussion of Snow Like Ashes
It's where we find out that Meira's the queen and not Mather! Luckily for Winter, Mather's keeping far from that crown, sorry, I found him unbearable.
And that final battle was cool all so (I wish Sir would have stayed dead) (sorry, if you liked him I obviously didn't!)
Overall I found this book very enjoyable, but no more than that, I'm afraid. I'm in the middle of writing a full review on it, so that'll give you my full opinion of this book.

Least favourite character? Sir
And finally, Would you reread it? Maybe.... since I bought the book...
To those who've finished the book, copy and paste the questions (add more to the questions if you like) above for the closing of the discussion.

Did you enjoy Snow Like Ashes? I did!
Is it a new favourite? Not a favourite, but I did enjoy it.
Who would you recommend it for? Anybody who enjoys fantasy YA novels of any sort.
Will you continue this series? Definitely. I'll admit I've already read the second one and am onto the third one. It's changed my opinion about a lot of characters. The books get better too!
Favourite character? Based on this book alone, I'd have to say Theron.
Least favourite character? Again, based just on this book, I'd have to say Mather. But he's actually come to be one of my favourites since the second book.
Would you reread it? Probably not simply because I have so many other books I'd like to read instead.
