Claire | 4216 comments Hey everyone !
I'm so excited for this reading challenge. The Wheel-a-thon is one of my favorite team challenges. I believe it's my third time participating in on on NBRC.

I don't know many of you, yet, but I hope we'll become good friends during this challenge. It's nice to meet you all !

So, my name is Claire. I'm from Brussels, Belgium. Technically, I'm still a student, although I've already done my master thesis. Long story short, the university system is not that great and as a result when I decided to change options mid-way they wouldn't let me pass all my classes in one year. And so, I only have that one class to pass this year. It's absolutely ridiculous. But that's all ok, because I've found an internship at the local Waterstones bookstore, which I start mid-october.
My hobby is reading, reading and reading. Like all of you I guess. What do I read? I read mostly fantasy, urban fantasy and MM romance. I read a lot of YA, too. I also like the occasional science fiction and classic literature.

I tried, I really really tried, but I couldn't let you go. So, you're stuck with me again. I also snatched Elen.

*grins*

Btw, I stayed up the other day reading slash Harry Potter fanfic, and I'm going totally to blame you for that.

Hey Sonia! I'm really glad to be on your team again :D

Haha. You can blame it on me. I'm actually really proud of having infected yet another person with my love of slash HP fanfics
Aren't they just the best? lol
The only problem is that they can't always count towards your goodreads challenge, even though they feel like a novel. I hope you're enjoying them at least.
What did you read?

A little weird reading about things that 16 y.o. do to each other LOL... I haven't finished reading though... It was Harry Potter and the Bound Prince. After some Drarry images on pinterest, I *had* to read more about it.

Ah ! I read those. It's very very VERY smutty... LOL Sometimes a bit too much maybe. It's funny because I also discovered it through fanart. Let's say it made the reader's imagination work!

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Okay, for introduction, I'm Sonia, one of your captains for this ride, and I'm really excited with the challenge.

I've been trying to convince the other mods to do a holidays wheel-a-thon for ages now, and it's finally here, and with a Nightmare Before Christmas theme, and I feel like I'm in heaven.

I'ma also excited to finally play with some familiar faces, and some new ones, and of course, for those you have been my teammates before, I am not even a little bit sorry that you are stuck with me again.

This is going to be fuuuuuun

I'd gladly share it with you, but I didn't save it at the time. I wasn't using pinterest much... Sorry :(

message 27: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Okay, so, Team Sally stuff:

- I'm going to need to know your challenge shelf. (in case you already created it and said in the sign-up form, ignore this part)

- For those who like to prep in advance, our first word is BONES
We'll need to spell it as many times as we possible can. You can use the planning spreadsheet to grab as many letters as you want, just remember that books need to be read between October 27th and November 3rd. So, don't burn yourselves in first week.... this is going to last 6 :o)

We're also going to need:
- A book with BONES in the text
- A book with BONES in the title/series name
- A book with BONES on the cover
- A book with BONES as genre (1st page of book genres)

These books only count if they're used for the spelling.

message 28: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 7732 comments For those planners, I already checked, and Bones is listed as a genre. All of the Kathy Reichs books are in there, and a few others. Yay.

message 29: by Lauriie (new)

Lauriie | 111 comments I have a one of these on my tbr it also has Bones as a word in the title...

message 30: by Claire (last edited Oct 04, 2018 08:42AM) (new)

Claire | 4216 comments my shelf is Challenge-Sally-Wheel-a-Thon

@Jenny I've got a few Kathy Reichs books on my shelves which I bought not so long ago. I was a fan of Bones, the tv show, and really wanted to give the books a try. Maybe I'll read one of two during the challenge. A lot of them have the word Bones in the title, too. So that's really helpful!

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

I've got Déjà Dead that fits for BONES as a genre, great idea Claire!

Thanks Jenny :p

message 34: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 7732 comments No problem. If I remember right, there is also a character named Skinny.
I wouldn't mind rereading this series, and I have to check, but I think there may be a new one just out, or out soon.

message 35: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 7732 comments Also, for those of you who are fans of the TV series, these books are nothing like it. I couldn't watch the show past the first episode, as I didn't like the changes. But, I rarely like a tv show or movie that screws with a book.

I started to watch A Wrinkle in Time yesterday, and I was so angry at the changes in the first five minutes that I turned it off. Unforgiving little witch. (Me).

thanks for the warning. I wasn't really expecting it to be exactly like the tv-show. I'm pretty good at separating shows/movies and books in my mind. I've learned to do that pretty quickly. Otherwise I get so disappointed by one of them.
For instance, that's what I did for Ready Player One. When I watched the movie, and once I understood it was strongly diverging from the book, I really tried my best to enjoy it for itself, and not as a book adaptation. If I hadn't done that I think I would have just exploded from rage. lol

I had that problem after loving the tv show of Bones and then the book was so unexpected that I jsut didn't pick it back up.

As for a Wrinkle in Time that movie made me rage!

message 38: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 7732 comments Yeah, I don't think I will be finishing Wrinkle. I also had a huge problem with Ready Player One. I named one of my cats Aech. Loved the book, and wanted to find Spielberg after I saw the movie and slap him.
Now I want someone else to make an HBO series out of it and actually follow the book. I dream a lot.

Spielberg is a director of films that I will reliably DISlike., so there is no way I'm going to inflict the film of RP1 on myself. Don't think I will be missing out!

No, I don't think you'll be missing much. Even if we ignore that it's a bad book adaptation, it's kind of mediocre.

Elen | 1269 comments Hey team!

Sonia, I am glad that you snacked us and so many other Gryffindors (TTVI). Also, nice to meet new people and be friends with you all :D

A quick introduction:
I'm very excited to play the Wheel-a-thon. It's my first time participating in this challenge, but I have loved all NBRC challenges so I saw it coming and signed-up immediately.

My name is Elen and I'm from Tartu, Estonia. I started my master degree this September in Biomedicine and I am loving it so far.
I love reading and always have since I was a little kid. I read mostly fantasy, YA, thriller, crime, mystery, high fantasy. But I can read anything if it will help our team.
PS! Okay not everything *looks at Jenny*

message 44: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments Hi everybody! Short intro: I'm Camilla from Finland. I can't remember exactly how many times I've played Wheel-a-thon prior to this, but it's not my first time playing. I read mostly fantasy, scifi, horror, thrillers and some non-fiction. Looking forward to playing with you!

message 45: by Sonia (new)

I'm starting to see a pattern here...

message 46: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 7732 comments Hi again!
I know some of you, but not all, so here I go...
This is my first time doing a Wheel-a-thon, and my first time as co-captain. I got involved with these crazies in TTVI.

I live in Phoenix, AZ, where I own and run a picture frame shop. I live with two furry critters whose picture I use for my profile. Cute, right? One of them threw up on my treadmill this morning. So cute.

I read anything, preferably if it is well written, (stop sniggering Elen) but mainly scifi, fiction, thrillers, ya, and science books.

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3685 comments Hi guys!! I'm so excited I caught this! I loooove these challenges but 2018 has been kicking my butt so much that I keep missing them.

I'm Rebecca from New Jersey, USA. I'm a research scientist and lab manager in an immunology lab in NYC. Which I LOVE, but it definitely has decreased my audiobook listening time from my previous job (when I spent 8 straight hours listening every day). I real almost everything except horror and non-fiction. I'm on a mystery kick right now, but of course have to throw in some romance and ya fantasy.

I haven't read fanfic in about 10+ years, but now you guys are making me want to dive back in hehe

Here's my shelf : /review/list...
