Melissa | 3744 comments About this Challenge
â— Starts on October 27th, 2018 and runs for 6 weeks

Point System
â— Books between 160 and 200 pages = 5 points
â— Books between 201 pages and 300 pages = 10 points
â— Books between 301 and 400 pages = 20 points
â— Books between 401 and 500 pages = 40 points
â— Books between 501 and 650 pages = 60 points
â— Books between 651 and 800 pages = 80 points
â— Books over 801 pages = 100 points

Additional Points
â— The team will get additional bonus points for "collecting" their word in the categories below(*):
- Word in text --> 20 points
- Word in title/series name --> 30 points
- Word on the cover --> 40 points
- Word as book MGP --> 50 points
(*)Note 1: Collecting the word can be done once per category.
Note 2: If the word is a colour, the category "Word on the cover" means reading a book with that cover colour (cover must be about 50% of that colour)
Note 3: Books need to be part of the spell-it-out to be used for points
GENRES(view spoiler)

How a "spell it out" works
Spell out the word(s) using the first letter in the book's title, the first letter in the author's first or last name, or the first letter of a character's first, last, or nick-name, or the first letter of the series name. As always, if the first letter of a title starts with an indefinite or definite article ('A', 'An', 'The', etc.), you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word. If you are listening to an audiobook, the first letter in the narrator's first or last name also can be used. We're also allowing for Translators names, as long as the edition you are reading is a translation version.

Melissa | 3744 comments Hey everyone! I'm Melissa one of your captains for this round of Wheel. I'm really excited to start this challenge! Nightmare is one of my fav Disney movies, my husband and I were Jack and Sally for Halloween 2 years ago :D I live in the USA right outside of Philadelphia, PA with my husband, 2 daughters, and 2 cats. I love reading challenges because I always seem to find new authors and books during them along with meeting new awesome fellow book lovers :)

I'm currently reading Named of the Dragon which so far is really good. I love historical fiction, paranormal, fantasy, and mystery books the best.

I've played Wheel before but never captained it. I've captained plenty of other challenges tho so I'm not new to it LOL. The most important part about the challenge is to have fun! While we always want to win ;) we also want to enjoy ourselves and not be stressed out.

To start off introduce yourselves, where you are from, let us know if you've played wheel or any challenge before or if this is your first one (exciting!), and what you are currently reading.

Sunny (sunnyisreading) | 340 comments Hi guys! I'm Ines (but you can also call me Sunny as I go by either - and mind neither, really) and will be the co-captain for this team, which I'm super excited about. I come from Slovenia, which is a small country situated in central Europe. I love books, I like learning new things and I write a blog where I review books I read and post about my TBRs and Wrap-Ups. I am still a student so I have quite a bit going on right now in school, but kind of actually enjoy it.

I just finished Vicious yesterday and started Waking Gods yesterday, and am currently also reading A Game of Thrones (kind of a book freak who reads a lot at all times!). My favorite author would probably be Brandon Sanderson, as I love his works. In general, I mostly read fantasy and sci-fi, both YA and adult.

This is my first Wheel and I am already pumped for it. I love meeting new people and getting new experiences, and I hope we will have lots of fun doing it! :D

Rina | 663 comments Hi,

I am Rina and I come from Switzerland - the country with the best chocolate :-)
I have a dog, who was a stray dog in Spain in his first year, and I love going for a long walk with him.
I am currently reading Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare, who is one of my favourite authors. I like reading Historical Romance, Fantasy (mostly Urban Fantasy/Paranormal), YA and Crime/Thriller.
I have never played the Wheel before and I am very excited.

If everyone could post a link to their Wheel shelf I'll add it to our spreadsheet.

Carrie (boombaby13) | 319 comments Woohoo! Teams are up and open!

Hi everyone, I'm Carrie... a completely addicted reader. I'm from Indiana practically in the middle of the US and like to read a bit of everything really, well mostly fiction but not opposed to non-fiction if it interests me too. I'm a Netgalley addict that I can't stop requesting ARCs and a blogger, so basically in order to keep up with my insane TBR I just try to read faster and faster so challenges help motivate me even more. A friend told me to check out this group recently so this will be my first time playing the wheel and I'm excited (if you can't tell) to get started. :)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) Hello all!

Most people call me Jen(even though I hear mom 100 times a day). I live in Wisconsin, hence the Packer logo for my profile pic. I have loved reading ever since I was 7. I even started reading Stephen King and Robin Cook in 5th grade. I am currently reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Murder in Steeple Martin. I am far from new to reading challenges but this is my first wheel challenge. I also prefer the fantasy and science fiction genre. It's my only escape from the real world after all, lol.

Well we certainly have the one thing in common already, I started reading Stephen King and others way before I probably should have too. LOL

message 20: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) My 6th grade lit teacher actually tried to deny a book report I did on Mutation because she said it was above my reading level and inappropriate. So my mom went to the principal with my 5th grade standardized testing results that showed i was reading and writing at college level. Well the principal told the teacher that obviously I did understand the book and told her to read the book to see if my report was accurate. That teacher hated me after that, lol

Oh that's good! LOL I never ran into that kind of problem with school really but there's probably 2 big reasons. First, my grandmother worked in the offices so she had begun teaching me herself at a very young age and taking me into the school so all the teachers knew me before I ever started grade school. But on top of that during that age I was always in the advance classes anyway so we were expected to read above our grade.

Haha for me it's actually almost time to say goodnight but I would guess you are either up extremely early or Slovenia is farther ahead of me than I thought.

Nicole P | 1834 comments Hi All :)

I'm Nicole and an avid romance reader. I read most sub-genres except for historical. Only if I have to. I am from South Africa but am currently living and working in Abu Dhabi. I'm currently reading Bishop and Pipe Dreams. Both of them are for two challenges I'm currently participating in. Like Jen, I am not new to challenges, but am new to the Wheel challenge. It looks like fun!

Melissa | 3744 comments Hi everyone!! Looks like we're on different time zones so that should be fun. I love when my team is spread all over the world and I get to meet new people

Also seems like this is the first time for Wheel for a lot of us and I love that hahaha we'll learn and either love it or hate it together :D

I was also a reader since birth but my earliest books that I remember devouring are the Nancy Drew Mysterys.

Carrie - this group is really great. I would suggest you check out their BOM. They run it really well and for this challenge you get extra points if you read one. If it interests you you should check out the November ones when they are posted.

Jen - That's too funny about the book report but I love it. It's awesome the principal stuck up for you. I would have loved to see that teachers face when he did hahaha I have a friend from work who is a die-hard Packers fan. I am a Philly and Denver fan myself!

Nicole - I love romance books. What are some of your favorites? I can't keep myself away from Nora Roberts LOL even though I feel like everyone book is so similar I just can't stop reading them!

message 26: by Nicole (new)

Nicole P | 1834 comments Way too many favorites! Sandra Brown is my first true love. She got me hooked on romances. My favorite from her is Envy by Sandra Brown . And then I branched out to Nora Roberts. But I haven't read one from her in awhile. I love Tessa Bailey, Lauren Layne, Lauren Blakely, Nalini Singh, Jessica Lemmon, Julie James, Sawyer Bennett, Sherilee Gray, Kate Meader, Elle Kennedy, Lili Valente, Max Monroe, Sarina Bowen....the list goes on and on and on 😂

message 27: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3744 comments Your list had so many that I haven't read yet. I'll check them out and add some to my TBR.

I'm always up pretty early! On school days at 4am and during the weekend at 6am. :D And I go to bed late so I'm almost always here lol :D

Also welcome Nicole! Romance is the one thing I really rarely read :D It's so interesting to see how diverse people are.

And as Melissa suggested, the BOMs are a great thing. I participate in at least one per month and it's always a great way to discover new books and possible favorites :D

Melissa | 3744 comments Here is a link to our Tracking spreadsheet - you can request access to it and I'll approve. This will allow us to keep track of books that we are currently reading or someone has claimed so we know what spots are still open.

I'm not a big fan of claiming spots because I feel like sometimes that can cause issues if a book isn't finished on time or if someone claims too many and other people feel left out. What I like to do (and please feel free to give your opinions on this!) is have people claim spots with books that they are already reading or plan to read next. No one should have more then 2 spots claimed. This way the slower readers still get a chance to contribute.

It is a fast challenge with the word changing weekly. So what happens is every book we finish during week 1 needs to be used for week 1. If you start a book during week 1 but don't finish it until week 2 then you can use it during week 2. Whatever week you finish the book is the week it needs to be used.

Take a look at the spreadsheet and let us know what books you think you have that would fit a spot and we can start to plan for week 1. Our word is SKELETON. We can complete the word as many times as we want during the week but we can only get bonus points once.

I will read whatever during challenges so I can always find a book for a spot that's open. I did find a book with the genre of Skeleton that was on my TBR and I've reserved it from the library so we are good there.

message 30: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) So you keep track on the soreadsheet? The reason I ask us because I do not have a computer right now and for some reason the programming on my tablet won't let me edit stuff like that.

message 31: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3744 comments Oh also - for the faster readers don't slow down with your reading. Even if you haven't claimed a spot with your book I'm sure we can fit it in somewhere as long as it fits in the word we're reading for. No one should feel left out or that their books don't count so if you ever do let me know.

message 32: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3744 comments Jennifer wrote: "So you keep track on the soreadsheet? The reason I ask us because I do not have a computer right now and for some reason the programming on my tablet won't let me edit stuff like that."

I find it easier to keep track on the spreadsheet yea. Can you see the spreadsheet you just can't edit it?

message 33: by Nicole (new)

Nicole P | 1834 comments Can we claim a spot closer to the start? I have no idea what I'll be reading on 27 October 🙈

message 34: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (boombaby13) | 319 comments Nicole wrote: "Can we claim a spot closer to the start? I have no idea what I'll be reading on 27 October 🙈"

LOL! This is me too. I try to read my ARCs by publication so I can somewhat guess where I'll be by then but won't be totally sure until later.

message 35: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (boombaby13) | 319 comments I had a question....

I understand once we clear the word we can do it again but does it need to be completely done again before starting some letters a third or fourth time?

message 36: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (boombaby13) | 319 comments Sunny wrote: "Carrie wrote: "Sunny wrote: "Good morning, Carrie and Jen! :)"

Yep, that's pretty darn early Sunny. I thought it might have been around 4 your time then. I'm up at 7 during the week my time which should be like noon to you then but weekends is a whole different story, I'm the type to not go to bed until 7 on weekends then complain Monday morning each week. LOL

message 37: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (boombaby13) | 319 comments For the bonus points... do we need 4 separate books or would one book with skeleton in the title, text and cover work?

message 38: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3744 comments You can claim and plan whenever you want! No restrictions. You can not claim at all and just let us know where the books fits when you are done.

If we read books like this:
SKELETON SKELETON SKEL - we get all points

If we read books like this:
SKELETON SKELE SKEL - we only get points for the first word

Does that make sense?

message 39: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (boombaby13) | 319 comments Melissa wrote: "You can claim and plan whenever you want! No restrictions. You can not claim at all and just let us know where the books fits when you are done.

Ok, so yes, we do need to do every letter each time. I didn't want to have 10 S books saved up and no one has a K, if that makes sense. LOL

message 40: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3744 comments Yes it does and no we don't want to do that LOL

message 41: by Nicole (new)

Nicole P | 1834 comments I'll be sure to keep any books with an E or O for the challenge. Vowels also trip me up in spell-it-outs. Not sure if anyone participated in the Tower Team challenge. But the vowels were a killer with the character spell-it-outs. Especially the U's.

message 42: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3744 comments Thanks Nicole! The U's were definitely a challenge during TT. I read the In Death series and the MC's name is Eve so I usually can fill E's pretty quick if we need to. O's can be tough depending on how many. I think we got a pretty good word for the first spin!

message 43: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (boombaby13) | 319 comments I think I have books for all letters at least once with a lot of T's and S's too. We'll see how many I can actually squeeze into a week when the time comes. :)

message 44: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) Melissa wrote: "Jennifer wrote: "So you keep track on the soreadsheet? The reason I ask us because I do not have a computer right now and for some reason the programming on my tablet won't let me edit stuff like t..."

I am able to view it.

message 45: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3744 comments You can just post here what books and where and someone can put them in for you to make it easier for you.

Rina | 663 comments Do you think

A Dirty Job (Grim Reaper, #1) by Christopher Moore

would work for skeleton on the cover? If yes, I could read it in the first week.

message 49: by Rina (new)

Rina | 663 comments My shelf: Link

message 50: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (boombaby13) | 319 comments Question.... When it comes to claiming letters do you guys think it would be good idea for me to set aside books for every letter for myself to read? I'm a quick reader so getting through the whole word in a week wouldn't be a problem so that way I'm not in anyone else on the team's way and they would definitely all count.
