Books Read Thread
All About Wheel-A-Thon III

ŷ Genres Page

Timeline: Starts on October 27th, 2018 and runs for 6 weeks
Book have to be submitted by the captains by Saturday 10 pm (London Time), 5 pm (Eastern Time) -- Team Members must have their books logged before this cut-off.

Reminders:
All books must be started after the challenge begins on October 27th.
You do not have to finish a book the same week you start it, but it must be used the week it is finished. Example: You start a book for a word in the second week, but do not finish it until the third week of the challenge. It can be used then for the third week's word, but cannot be saved and banked for the fourth week.
Plurals are Okay as substitutes for the word for bonus points (such as crows on the title instead of crow)
Books can only fit one bonus category, BOM's can get Bonus Points AND BOM Points
Page Count of book is from Edition you marked Read

We will get points for all completely finished words, and for the letters of the next word that we were working on. We can work on more words at once, but once the deadline is over, only one partial word will be counted for points.

Example:

CROWS CROWS CROWS CRO_ _ C _ _ _ S = Only the full spellings of CROWS (3 words) and CRO (the first partial word after the last finished) would earn points. The last C and S for the second unfinished word would not.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6263 comments Hello Team! I'm excited to be your Captain for this round, it will be my first time in this role in this particular group. My favorite genres are Urban Fantasy, PNR, Horror, Thriller, Mystery, and Drama. I like Paranormal mixed in pretty much every genre.

I have a terrific son, Gage, who will be 18 next year (eek!) and two adorable cats. I look forward to meeting everyone here.

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Hello everyone!!

I’m from Oklahoma. I’m a mommy to 7 year old boy. I love to read fantasy (urban and epic), mystery/thrillers, and horror. I also read YA occasionally. I will read just about anything though. This is my first challenge like this. I am on a team in around the world. Hello Anna and Carrie!

We have a super short word so we should have no issue doing the word quite a few times. I also found a book that fits the genre/shelf and fits in the spell it out.

message 16: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments I’m also on the app and as soon as I get home later this evening I will post the link to my bookshelf

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1220 comments Hi team! I'm from Pennsylvania. I have a 20 year old daughter, 2 cats and a dog.
My favorite genres are mystery, thriller, nordic noir, and fiction in general.
Hi Anna and Jessi. It's great getting on the same team again! Looking forward to this challenge!

Great, thanks Jessi!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6263 comments The lucky thing for us is our first word isn't that rare --- there are a lot of books that have Crow on the cover and in the title. I have one I can read if needed when the bonus is up - which coincidentally I planned to read this month anyway since I'm trying to get some Horror/Thriller done

I'm envious you run - it's not in my cards - and that you're good with audiobooks. I've tried but don't have as much luck with them. Do you subscribe to an audible service or get them another way?

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2179 comments Okay, now that I have a wee bit of time I'll introduce myself to those of you who don't know me and that is most of you.

I'm probably the granny of the group. It's okay, not everyone gets to live to my ripe "old" age. LOL But as my mother used to say, "Age is just a number and my number ain't listed." Only I list mine. I'm going to be 69 in January.

I have 5 children ages 48 down to 39 (3 girls/2 boys). I also have 20 grandchildren ranging in ages from 24 down to 6 months and I have an even number of genders: 10 boys/10 girls. And I just became the proud grandmother of my 4th GREAT grandchild! The genders got messed up there but that's all right. LOL I have 3 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter. The funnest thing right now is that the 3 youngest greats plus my 20th "regular" grandchild are all under one year old! LOL So Audrina is 11 months, Liliana is 6 months, Jay is 5 months, and Warren is just six days old! What a blessing they all are!!!

I also have 2 dogs and am a huge dog lover!

I'm a retired (May 2017) high school teacher of 25 years. I taught English and yearbook. :)

Reading I now have time to do! My favorite genres are historical fiction, mystery/thriller, paranormal and fantasy but not too much into sci-fi.

I'm excited to get this one going and meet all of you. I don't know how this challenge works yet but I'm ready to learn!

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments Hi everyone! I'm Stacey and I'm in Raleigh, NC where I live with my very spoiled Italian Mastiff. I'm up for reading just about anything and I'm a challenge junkie! I have a 7 hour car ride coming up, so I will take a good look at the rules, and see what I have that fits the first word, just to keep me occupied.

Excited to get started and get to know you all. :)

message 30: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2179 comments Hey, Stacey! I’m a challenge junkie too! It’s too fun to pass up! I love team challenges and the camaraderie we build. I’m too busy to be on my computer for hours on end so some things pass by me but I’m always ready to play!

Question: Our word is CROW but we have a lot more than 4 people on the team so how does that work?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6263 comments Welcome Stacey!

Vicki, we can spell CROW multiple times.

When the deadline is over for the week, all fully spelled words will count, and the letters of the next word that is not yet complete (but not any other incomplete words after that!)

Here is our Spreadsheet:

Cecily Black | 1805 comments Hey everyone! My name is Cecily and I am living in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. I love to read but unfortunately with my new job as an Education Assistant for the local public school board, I don't have as much time to read as I am used to.
I love participating in these challenges because I can never choose what to read on my own.
I love Drama, Thriller, Mystery, Romance, Dark and Erotica. However, I will read pretty much anything. I listen to a lot of audiobooks because I am constantly multitasking!
I have a little black kitty named Sookie and a 6 month old puppy named Zarco.

Any The Walking Dead fans in this group?? I always seem to find some no matter what challenge group I am in LOL

So is there nothing going on until the 27th? that seems so far away lol

Natasha | 1088 comments Hello everyone. Glad to see the thread is unlocked now. I work in the library field. I read a variety of genres with science fiction, fantasy, history, and historical fiction being my favorites. I enjoy video games, jigsaw puzzles, hockey, Neopets, and walking/hiking when I’m not reading. I am a proud pet parent to two German Shepherds, two bearded dragons, a Western Hognose snake, and three koi (and the frogs that hang out by the pond).

Hi Cecily! Love the pics. They are so cute. I have a black kitty named Layla. She's a little bit prissy. (I also have kitty named Tigger and a Westie pup named Bentley!)

I have watched the first 4 seasons of The Walking Dead and then I fell behind. Are you a huge fan? I keep meaning to catch up but never seem to get there lol.

Are you in the area of Canada that got all the snow recently?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6263 comments Since this is a holiday challenge, I'm curious, what is everyone's favorite holiday?

My #1 is Christmas, but Halloween is a close second. Not the night of Halloween especially, but the entire month of October usually has so much fun going on that the month itself is my favorite of the year. This weekend friends and I are going to Sir Henry's Haunted Trail, and usually we do Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights, although this year we cannot. A lot of fun reading challenges and themes happen too - it's just plain fun.

Otherwise I love the holiday music for both Christmas and Halloween, the fun decoration and change of moods.

Many don't care much about Thanksgiving but I enjoy looking forward to the cooking, planning and eating. My mom and I always had fun with it.

message 49: by Natasha (new)

Natasha | 1088 comments My favorite holiday is Christmas followed by Thanksgiving and then Halloween. I love Christmas because I love winter and snowmen and giving presents. I love Thanksgiving because I get to see family I don't see too often and get to eat delicious food. I love Halloween because I love fall and pumpkins and candy and dressing up.

message 50: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1220 comments So hard to pick between the 3. My family has a Halloween party each year and we love decorating and making Halloween themed foods! October is also my favorite month when it comes to weather in PA! I love the changing colors of the leaves and spending time outdoors around the fire pit.
I love Christmas since it always involves spending extra time with family.
Thanksgiving for us is usually a nice dinner and then watching football.
I guess I love them all!
