Our group theme for October is scream!, so let's explore different places we find the word.

1. Scream! was Michael and Janet Jackson's song. Read a book that takes place in a spaceship OR read a book that makes you want to scream.

2. I scream for ice cream! Read a book that at least partially takes place in ice cream parlour OR read a book that has ice cream on its cover.

3. Scream is a series of American slasher films and consists, to date, of four motion pictures. Read a book about a serial killer OR read a book from series that has at least four books.

4. Scream if you wanna go faster! is the second studio album by Geri Halliwell. Read a book that has a female singer as a character OR read a book that has a car or a motorbike on its cover.

5. The Scream is a famous painting by Edvard Munch. Read a book that has painter as a character OR read a book in which a painting plays an important role.

Oh I've been really bad about my challenges lately plus I'm trying to only read books that I already own for the rest of the year, so I'm just going to sign up for 1.

I finally finished Lolita! And since this book definitely made me want to scream, I'll consider this my first book for this challenge.

Dearly Devoted Dexter & Waiting to Be Heard: A Memoir

Hi Merja, Cassandra,

It's not that I wouldn't recommend the book, it's just not one I would read again.

I can understand the subject can be disturbing, and I didn't have a problem with that. I wanted to read the book to see if I could get a little idea about what drives Humbert.

I just hated the writing, it was way too lyrical for me. Which made the text drag on and on. And because of that, I couldn't really get into Humberts head (which might be a good thing, considering how disturbed this man is).

Duma Key**** What would you paint if what you painted became reality?

Duma Key, should read that someday. I've bought it few years ago but haven't started..

I liked it, it was nice that Stephen King wrote a book and he didn't go Stephen King.

Just completed #4 (female singer character) - Edge of Eternity by Ken Follett. I love this series and Follett's writing, and truly love the accomplishment of reading an 1100 page book. My only criticism, which I have found in the other books as well, is that about half way through the plot loses its zest. The characters tend to fall out of character, and there are gaps in the plots for each concurrent storyline. Other than that minor issue, I truly enjoyed this book and highly recommend the series. 4.5 stars

Just completed #3 (serial killer) - The Concrete Blonde by Michael Connelly. I enjoy Connelly's writing and the Harry Bosch character, and I particularly appreciate his better-than-most legal accuracy. However, I felt this book dragged in parts. Overall entertaining and definitely recommend the series. 3.5 stars

I finished Gone Girl today. Wow, would I want to #1 scream if I were the characters in this book! Such a great job of writing by Flynn.
