Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Hi Apoorv! While the mods were finishing a master spreadsheet I was trying to do one for our team but I'm having problems with the Google Docs. I can't edit any one of my previous documents or edit a new one. I really don't know what to do.

I like your draft, and if you have the time and energy I'll be grateful for you creating it for us.

message 204: by Lilac (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 127 comments That looks nice Apoorv.

Hi team, got a bit a a problem with a book and I'm not sure what to do about it. I'm currently reading Edge of Eternity and at a normal pace I'd finish it in the next week. However, I realised that this book is a buddy read around the 25th of November. I'm going to discuss in the buddy read anyway, but I don't think I can make myself stretch the book out that far. Do you think I should try and make it last longer to get the extra points? If so, any tips on how to do that (provided the library will let me keep it that long)?

message 205: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments @Lilac, I think that if you finish the reading after November 8th you could gain points when you interact with the others in the buddy reads, even if you are not reading at the same time as they are.
I'll check with Kelly (if she didn't answer us before that) and let you know.

But if you are enjoying the book don't feel pressure to stretch the reading just for the points sake.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Great work with the draft Apoorv.

@Juliana I had the same problem yesterday. It turned out they were migrating my documents to new version of something (forgot what drive maybe?) Today they are all working again.

@Dragana I hope that it's something like that, because has been like this since yesterday (that I noticed).

Yup. As long as there's good discussion going on in the thread you can claim your buddy read. There's also a thread for brining back old bom/br threads if you're looking for someone for a book that already has a thread.

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1247 comments Juliana, do we all have access to the Master Spreadsheet or is it shared with just the Captains ?

Just wondering, if I can see how that is laid out, if easily accessible !

message 211: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments @Apoorv, the Spreadsheet wasn't released yet. (Sorry if I give the wrong impression).
They are working on some issues but I think that it'll be open for all team member to access.

For the spreadsheet you might want to put the group members name and a link to both their read shelf and their challenge shelf. Will make it a bit easier for whoever tracks it. Thinking about it I'd probably end up with a separate page for each person, with data tracking to a master sheet... but that's me being v geeky at this point!

Other question is whether you need the title, author and date in the sheet. Will make it v time consuming to keep track of! Is bad enough just counting books and page numbers from experience of the last tower team.

12hours left!!!!!!!!!!

So close!

message 216: by Rose (new)

Rose | 633 comments I'll probably use the morning to finish up the two short books I'm reading Steppenwolf and Call for the Dead. I am liking Call for the Dead, but I really don't think I'm ever going to understand Steppenwolf.

P.s. Gaiman is awesome. Just don't read too many in succession. It does weird things to you. :)

message 217: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) I think Steppenwolf was the book I most understood from all Hermann Hesse's novels. I don't say I understood much, but... :)

message 219: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Morning Team!!!!

The waiting is over. Tower Teams III has officially started.

We have a few new things...

First, the mods created a thread (upon request) for the teams insert theirs read books. The idea is to facilitate the captains job in finding everybody reads.
So we chat and incentive each other here and we post when we finish a book there.
The link it's HERE.

Second, the spreadsheet provided by the mods are up, but I'm still have some problems in editing it. I hope during this week me and the mods can figure everything out. As soon as it all working fine I'll create a version for our team and I'll post the link here too.

Well, I think it this for now.

Happy reading!!!

I still have to read this one Trinity. I had read a graphic novel of the story The Hobbit Graphic Novel by Chuck Dixon and was very entertaining.

Great Jane!!

It was good?

message 228: by Jane (last edited Nov 08, 2014 11:32AM) (new)

Jane | 705 comments @ Juliana: It was okay, a good read and the ending actually made it jump from 3 to 4 stars for me. I don't read a lot of historical fiction as I prefer fantasy and paranormal but I needed it for a few different challenges.

P.S. I can only recommend The Hobbit, I think it is really good.

message 229: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments @Jane good to hear. I do enjoy a good historical fiction from now and then.

@Apoorv did you managed to start the spreadsheet? I can use the google docs now. I had to switch browser but seams to be working fine now.

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments I couldn`t contain myself, so I made a simple spreadsheet to fell like I had some control (crazy lady, I know!! LOL). Sorry Apoorv!

Let me know what do you guys think of it, and if you have any suggestions.

message 231: by Apoorv (new)

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1247 comments LOL, Juliana ! I can so understand the restlessness to do that Spreadsheet and keep a track of the progress.

I had, as a matter of fact, just started to put something together. Now that you have it under control.. I will stop the double work.

I really like the way you have set the layout of the Spreadsheet.. especially the small crosses (sorry, but I am kinda persnickety so these thing attract me more ! :P)

I will probably try and keep a backup sheet or a list ready, incase something gets missed. But, awesome work ! :)

Let me know if I can do anything to help, regarding this. Will be superglad to do so.

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 1247 comments Just as a reminder to everyone, please drop by Lightning Hounds - BOOKS READ to reserve a spot for yourself to notify your progress.

Also, it would be very helpful, if all of us keep updating our respective read-list atleast once a day or as frequently as possible, so that all the read books are accounted for.

Juliana has done a cool job with the Spreadsheet, but visiting each of ours shelves might just be cumbersome when updating the Spreadsheet.. so when we all finish a book, lets drop by the aforementioned link to keep the team adept with progress.

The Christmas Spirit by Susan Buchanan The Christmas Spirit by Susan Buchanan

Jane | 705 comments Sorry, just realised that I put the wrong pagenumbers for The House at Riverton. The correct number is 593 pages. It makes no difference to the points though.

I really liked that book :) I love historical fiction..I just finished her neest book.. The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton

message 237: by Rose (new)

Rose | 633 comments I finished Call for the Dead. 160 pages- I really wish it had been one more page, but I really enjoyed it. I'm trying to make my way to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy in the series, so I can finally watch the movie without guilt.

We seem to be starting this really well!

I've just finished Code Name Verity (Code Name Verity, #1) by Elizabeth Wein which was really good. It's all written in letters and is about a female being caught in France by the Gestapo during the 2nd world war. There's not much more I can say without adding spoilers!

In other news I saw Shakespeare in love at the theatre last night with the girls I lived with at medical school. Was a lovely evening and fantastic to catch up with them again.

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Great guys! You started with a strong pace. :)

Good Sunday to all!

message 240: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments I have finished:

The Warlock (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #5) by Michael Scott The Warlock by Michael Scott

This finished on a cliffhager so I will start the last book in the series right away.

message 241: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments In the spreadsheet my book The Christmas Spirit has been given only 10 points but it is 166 pages which should give it 20 points.

message 242: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) I currently have one audiobook, one ebook and a paper one started. I should finish at least one by tomorrow.

Everything is set up correctly now. :)

message 245: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments No problem Apoorv.

It was Sunday today and I hate cliffhangers so I have finished another book and yes Catherine I would have liked more books as well. It could have been books about some of the different characters in this series.

Finished
The Enchantress (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #6) by Michael Scott The Enchantress by Michael Scott.

We have noticed the huge page difference between the several editions for The Lies of Locke Lamora.

The word count is 192,918 so dividing by 250 words per page gives us 771 pages.

Therefore, for Tower Team purposes, we're going to state that the official ruling of this book is 90 points.

When marking your books as read, please choose an edition that has between 751 and 900 pages.
