Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments -Only Books STARTED after the challenge officially begins can count towards our cards! The challenge starts on February 1st at 7PM AEDST.

-Books must be at least 100 pages in length. If its a children's book, graphic novel, etc, I'll need to you verify that it is at least 25,000 words on arbookfind.com

-You must put your finished books on your Uno shelf for the challenge and have it marked as "read" on your account. If its not there, it doesn’t count :/

-Color cards must have at least 50% of the cover in the designated color to count. You can check the percentage here;

- Remember that were a team and this challenge is social and for fun! Don't get too caught up in the competition aspect and enjoy! Reading is fun! :)

-Feel free to ask any questions that you may have either here or by sending me a message. I'll be sure to get back to you as soon as I can with an answer!

-Our team spreadsheet is avaliable here;

Things that YOU need to do; (please 😊)
- Introduce yourself! This is a social challenge, feel free to get to know one another! We’ll be interacting for a while!
- Either Send me a message with an email account (preferably gmail) that you can get an invite to the spreadsheet for, or just post the email in the thread.
- Make sure you have an uno shelf ready for the challenge!
- Ask any questions you have!

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Hello everyone! My name is Kaylee and welcome to team Galaxy Donuts! Fun donuts are so interesting!! Though I wonder how sweet these would be, hmmm....

This will be my third year as a captain for the UNO challenge here on Perks and I am beyond excited!!

I am from Pennsylvania in the US of A, where I live with my cat and my family! I am a student finishing my degree currently, anticipating graduation in May! I am also a trumpet player and play a lot of Jazz; I also frequent activities such as building puzzles and reading in my free time :)

Most of my reading is either school related or very mainstream Young Adult; I have also recently been getting into reading more classics but those arent always the best for challenges like this! I read mainly physical books, just because my physical library is so large. Once I get through all those books, *maybe* I’ll switch to a Kindle ;)

What about you? Introduce yourself to the team! Where are you from, what do you like the read,l? Whats your favorite color? Mine is light blue:). Do you think galaxy donuts would be tasty?

Kelly | 976 comments Hi I’m Kelly and I’m one of the co-captains. I live in New Zealand. I did UNO last year and loved it!! I got to read a bunch of different books I never would’ve looked at otherwise.

I have two children aged 4.5 and 8 weeks, and when I’m not reading I’m gaming. Currently I’m playing Division 2 and Luigi’s Mansion. I’ll read almost anything except LOTR/GOT style fantasy, westerns, and erotica.

My favourite colour is blue and I think galaxy donuts would be amazing. I want one right now!!

Sara Hollingsworth | 643 comments Hello! I'm Sara. Seems I've lucked out and I'm the only Sara for once, so no need to use any of the nicknames I've collected over the years. I'm from California in the US. I'm from a small town not too far from pretty much everything so I travel a lot around the state.

I'm a college student and an anthropology major. When I'm not in school, I'm a dog walker. So I spend a lot of time with animals. At home, I have 3 cats. I love them to bits.

In my free time, I alternate between video games and reading books. My favorite genres are sci-fi, fantasy, and young adult. But, I'll read any genre really and I've been trying to do more non-fiction and classics as well.

Like, Kaylee, I also have a massive physical library. I have a bit of a book buying problem. And I'm trying to focus on the books I already own that have been slowly collecting dust.

Also my favorite color is red and I think galaxy donuts would be yummy. I might have to try and bake some. Baking is a bit of a hobby of mine and I like trying to invent my own recipes.

Christy (christy_t) | 165 comments Hi All! I'm Christy. I live in Richmond VA with my 2 egregiously spoiled dogs. I'm a self-employed consultant and I work from home.

In my free time, I read (obviously), watch TV, and check out the local breweries. I have a massive collection of unread kindle ARC's since I used to work for Amazon as a book buyer and can still download a ton of titles as a result. I mostly read romance, generally historical romance. I blend in a mix of historical fiction, cozy mysteries, thriller or chick-lit.

My favorite color is blue. And as far as I'm concerned pretty much any donut is delicious.

Sara - What part of California? I grew up in Elk Grove, just outside of Sacramento.

Kay (kay23) | 192 comments Hello everyone. My name is Mikayla.

This is my first time doing the UNO challenge.

I'm from Maine I the US and am a devoted coffee addict.

I have a reading comprehension problem so I can only handle reading children's chapter books. (sixth grade reading level)

My favorite color is teal

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Sara- Im sociology major! ;) I feel the growing dust; but I still keep buying books.

message 16: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Seems like we all have very similar favorite colors and feelings about galaxy donuts lol, with a few exceptions!

Sara Hollingsworth | 643 comments Kaylee wrote: "Sara- Im sociology major! ;) I feel the growing dust; but I still keep buying books."

Oh, cool! By the way, congrats on almost being graduated! Must be exciting to almost be done. I have a year and half left before I graduate. Also, I took a few Sociology courses for my GEs and I remember that I really enjoyed them. The study of society and societal behavior really is fascinating.

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Fyi, if I make any typos, I promise im not illiterate, I just type fast on my phone lol

I’ll get more into how were gonna play in a bit, Im currently eating :)))

message 20: by Kay (new)

Kay (kay23) | 192 comments Right now I'm on my app so if I don't link books, that's why but when the challenge starts, I'll be using mobile web.

message 21: by Kaylee (last edited Jan 22, 2020 05:04PM) (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Okay everyone! So in my first posted message, I have a link to a google sheet; Please open this sheet and make sure that you can edit it. Im pretty sure its set to anyone can edit, but I still would like to give all of you formal editing ability with an email asap, just in case.

This spreadsheet is how we will keep track of what books that we read; I don't like to play UNO in a way that we are assigned books, so if you just fill out the information in the spreadsheet we can always make it work!

That being said, we do have 7 reverse cards, and 7 Colored cards, as well as 5 Wild Draw 4 cards, which double as colored cards; so we will definitely need some volunteers on those! We need;

Red 4
Yellow 7
Red 2
Yellow 4
Blue 8
Yellow 8
Blue 6

5 of these will need to be doubled for the Wild Draw 4 cards :)
Let us know if you have any books on your tbr that might work here!

ALSO, let me know if you have any questions about anything; Im not always great at explaining things :)

No big deal if you dont link books as long as you put them on your uno shelf, we'll be able to find them :)

Sara Hollingsworth | 643 comments I have a couple options in my collection for Red 4. I have the Timekeeper trilogy, and I believe Firestarter (Timekeeper #3) by Tara Sim by Tara Sim, the third book works for Red 4, I think. If I'm understanding the rules right. Also I have The Battlemage (Summoner, #3) by Taran Matharu by Taran Matharu, which I also think works.

Also, I think both could work for Red 2.

Those are both awesome! Can you read both so we can get the WD4 out of the way?

message 25: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments I think Im going to be picking up Red, White & Royal Blue as a reverse from Sara. Havent looked at my shelves for colored cards yet.

I could definitely do both.

Kelly | 976 comments I’m on my phone so I can’t link it, but I’ve got a blue 6 book - Queen of Ruin by Tracy Banghart

message 28: by Kay (new)

Kay (kay23) | 192 comments I'd claim a color card but not sure any children's books would work

message 29: by Kay (new)

Kay (kay23) | 192 comments I do wonder something. What if a book was standalone then the author made it into a series?

message 30: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Then its the first in a series now :)

message 31: by Kay (new)

Kay (kay23) | 192 comments So that's what it would be counted as for this?

message 32: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Yes! Whatever it is currently, not at the time of release.

message 33: by Sara (new)

Sara Hollingsworth | 643 comments Oh, I forgot to add, I sent a request to the google sheets with my school gmail account.

message 34: by Christy (last edited Jan 22, 2020 07:23PM) (new)

Christy (christy_t) | 165 comments I have a yellow 8 that I plan to read The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren . I'm also planning on The Kiss Quotient (The Kiss Quotient, #1) by Helen Hoang , which should be good for a blue 6.

In the maybe piles I have a blue 8 Good Luck with That by Kristan Higgins , 2 red 2's The Wedding Date (The Wedding Date, #1) by Jasmine Guillory & The Honey-Don't List by Christina Lauren , as well as a 2nd yellow 8 My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren .

Not sure I'll be able to get through all of them, but at least have some options! I'm in several challenges, so it will be about satisfying all of the challenges and still reading what I like.

message 35: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments If you can’t get through those it’s a good start for someone else to pick up! I know our library has some of those books. I don’t buy - I borrow.

message 36: by Sha (new)

Sha | 324 comments Hi all~

I'm Sha. I'm indian (the Asian kind, not the North American kind) and I tend to read a lot when I get stressed. As I'm usually stressed this means I read a lot, period.

My most-read genres are Sci-fi/Fantasy and Romance, but I'm not really that picky. I also read a fair amount of YA and MG, which turned out to be pretty useful for last year's challenge.

I've never had a galaxy donut but they look nice. :)

message 37: by Sha (new)

Sha | 324 comments The Gurkha and the Lord of Tuesday by Saad Hossain - is this green or blue? It works for 6 and may work for 8 too.

message 38: by Sha (new)

Sha | 324 comments Summertime (aka Mikayla) wrote: "I'd claim a color card but not sure any children's books would work"

You should check them out in arbookfinder. Many of them satisfy the over 25k word limit restriction.

message 39: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments Sha wrote: "The Gurkha and the Lord of Tuesday by Saad Hossain - is this green or blue? It works for 6 and may work for 8 too."

Tineye is giving me 80% blue if I unhighlight the "exclude background colour" option but only 5% if I highlight it, so I think I'll leave it to the big boss!

message 40: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments I've put some books in our team spreadsheet - I have two potential blue 6/wild draw 4 books Queen of Ruin and The Fifth Petal. I've also put in a couple of potential 8s Evermore The Diviners and a 7 This Savage Song - we've pulled a fair few of those this hand!

message 41: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments Summertime (aka Mikayla) wrote: "I'd claim a color card but not sure any children's books would work"

If any of your books have red, green, yellow, or blue covers then we can try running it through tineye to see if it is more than 50%. If you get stuck let one of us know - I can do it on my iPhone quite quickly using screenshots so I'm happy to help.

message 42: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments The background color box just means it counts more than just the text, tineye says its blue, but it does look pretty green. I can ask in the captains chat next time I get on a computer

message 43: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Kelly, Diviners also works for a reverse, I read that a few years ago :)

Speaking of which, if someone puts something in the sheet that you have read, you can just add your name to the reverse section for that book in the spreadsheet. :)))

message 44: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Cant link them but I have to reread a few books for a school challenge thing, Im leaving the two fastest ones for Feb :) Eleanor and Park and I’ll Give You the Sun; my edition of Eleanor and Park is Blue!

message 45: by Mary (new)

Mary Hangen | 376 comments Hello Everyone! My name is Mary and I am the other co-captain. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies and like a few of you I have a book buying problem. Plus I recently inherited all of my grandfathers philosophy and theology books so my shelves are overflowing.

I’m a mom of two. Ira is 4.5 and Felicity turns 3 on Friday. Plus I have 4 dogs, 2 cats, and 5 fish. Ira was just recently diagnosed with autism, so I’ve been reading a lot of books on it.

Other than that I’m a YA/fantasy reader.

I will check my tbr list for color cards when I get to the office today, but it’ll be later due to some appointments this morning.

I am so excited for UNO! It may be turning into my favorite time of the year. <3

message 46: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments Oooh that would be a blue 8/wild draw 4 Kaylee! I know I’ve missed some info on the sheet but I just quickly went through my books to see if I had any 5/7/8/colour books solve those were the cards I personally found hard to cover last time.

I sure miss having a like button when I’m using ŷ.

message 47: by Mary (new)

Mary Hangen | 376 comments I did some research this morning and found some books that would work for the color cards, so I've got some of them covered and can continue to do that for any that we need. :)

message 48: by Sha (last edited Jan 23, 2020 04:51AM) (new)

Sha | 324 comments Hang on, I thought we weren't using tineye and going for group consensus this year? I seem to remember seeing that in the FAQ. Or was it the chat thread?

I've read This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity, #1) by Victoria Schwab so it can also be used for reverse. Not sure if it's red enough for red though.

Also hi, Mary!

message 49: by Sha (new)

Sha | 324 comments Oops hang on I'll go update the sheet
