Ashley W (ashleysendlesstbr1) | 5881 comments Hey, everyone! Checking in. I have a lot of books planned for the month but I don't think most of them will fit in any of the categories for bonus points.
Also quite a few are club reads on another site that are read through the month, so many won't be finished and posted till toward the end of August.

I made a spreadsheet that might help us keep organized

Wolf (Alpha) | 3155 comments Thanks Brandee! I was going to make one but you got it first,

Checking in! I won’t be around/reading much for the first two weeks of August because I’ll be traveling, but I’ll be back to reading after that!

message 6: by Karen (new)

Karen Barber | 13066 comments Signing in. I’ve let Sarah know that I’ll not be able to do much for week one due to travel. I’ll read what I can - tons of ARCs to try and get through, so will try to fit categories where I can.

You can read for any line you want and for any task you want. Lines and tasks do not need to be read in an order. You will get bonus points by completing a line. You can do a task multiple times.

A little update for the Amsterdam - task: there were some questions about the ditch on the cover, so I changed it into 'the letters D, I, T, C and H in the title/series name/author name'. Maybe that will be easier to complete.

message 13: by Karen (new)

Karen Barber | 13066 comments I’ve got a book for almost all categories, so am hoping to complete all of them at least once.

message 14: by Abbie (new)

Abbie | 1154 comments Apparantly I’m doing terrible at picking books for this challenge so if anyone wants to give me to one to read I’ll just go off the recommendation

Saar The Book owl | 5098 comments Mod
Hi Abbie, sorry, you don't do it terrible, absolutely not. There are just some tricky tasks. Please, take your time to find a good book that you enjoy reading. It's the fun that comes first, than the challenge.

message 16: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90520 comments Mod
Abbie, I found two other prompts that your books would count for, so I've moved them to those instead, so they haven't been wasted xx

message 17: by Abbie (new)

Abbie | 1154 comments Thank you I appreciate it xx

Saar The Book owl | 5098 comments Mod
Thanks, Sarah, for the extra look 😊

Saar The Book owl | 5098 comments Mod
If anyone is struggling with the New Delhi - task, then take a peek in the main thread of the challenge. I've posted some useful links there.

Karen Barber | 13066 comments Back from the touring holiday so hoping to get a few hours reading caught up with. How's everyone doing? We could set up a BR within the group and get a row done a few times if anyone is up for it.

Abbie | 1154 comments I’m up for it xx

Karen Barber | 13066 comments Brussels (book with waffles on cover); Paris (translated from French author) and London (London history as a theme) all need two reviews for a line to be completed twice.
I have Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum if either of you can get it. Ready to go any time.
For Paris I have Stay with Me by Ayá»Ì€baÌmi AdeÌbaÌyá»Ì€ - cheap on Kindle at the moment.
For London I was going to do The Five The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold if either of you fancies it.

Tokyo, Beijing, Cairo and Antananarivo could also work. It will all depend how easy it is to get a book that we all have access to.

message 24: by Abbie (new)

Abbie | 1154 comments I have ordered tell me three things but it won't be delivered until between the 9th an 12th August if that is okay?

That's fine. I'll request the thread for 12th.

I got all 3
I can start immediately for the other two. Will you request the threads

message 28: by Wolf (Alpha) (new)

Wolf (Alpha) | 3155 comments I’m also starting The Silmarillion for a book by Tolkien

message 29: by Abbie (new)

Abbie | 1154 comments I’m reading a book about a hacker which I think will work for San Jose

message 30: by Wolf (Alpha) (new)

Wolf (Alpha) | 3155 comments I was going to read The Arc by Ben Oliver for a computer book

message 31: by Karen (new)

Karen Barber | 13066 comments The good thing about this challenge is we can read each multiple times. We don't have to complete the whole set before starting another line (I think).

I'll request the threads for 10th.

message 32: by Abbie (new)

Abbie | 1154 comments there are quite a few lines I think where we are showing as having 2, overall I think we are doing really well but the leaderboard has not yet been updated.

message 33: by Wolf (Alpha) (new)

Wolf (Alpha) | 3155 comments We’re doing great for only having 3 readers at the moment! I know danique won’t be on for another week I believe but overall we’re doing great!

These are the ones we have left to finish the board once. And I’m reading for 2 on my own and then with buddy read we’ll complete another 3

- [ ] Read a book where an author writes about a computer
- [ ] Read a book with lemurs, gekkos, chameleons on the cover
- [ ] Read a book where the main character is a pharaoh
- [ ] Read a book with the word Emperor in the title/series
- [ ] Read a book where the MC makes a sacrifice in a temple
- [ ] Read a YA book with MPG Dystopian or Climate Change
- [ ] Read a book where the MC is a paleontologist
- [ ] Read a book written by Tolkien
- [ ] Read a YA book about mermaids
- [ ] Read a book where the MC is rejected for a party
- [ ] Read a book where something is sold on a market
- [ ] Read a book from a Dublin author
- [ ] Read a book with London history as a theme
- [ ] Read a book that is translated from a French author
- [ ] Read a book with waffles on the cover

message 34: by Abbie (new)

Abbie | 1154 comments Does anyone know if you can use one book for two themes because I feel like we could effectively do an MC getting rejected for a part and also getting drunk as I don’t recall seeing it in the rules?

I am debating reading divergent again for the dystopian one as it’s a very quick and easy read x

message 35: by Wolf (Alpha) (new)

Wolf (Alpha) | 3155 comments You can only use a book for 1 task.
And I’ll buddy read divergent with you just let me know when you want to start

message 36: by Abbie (new)

Abbie | 1154 comments I can start it whenever I’ve only got about 70 pages left in the book I’m doing so will finish that today but not sure how the buddy reads work 100% do we need to do it in a thread?

It takes a while for information to go in sometimes with three young kids so sorry if I seem dumb sometimes x

message 37: by Wolf (Alpha) (new)

Wolf (Alpha) | 3155 comments Yup it’ll be in a thread. I’ll request it once I get back on my tablet

I’m flying home from vacation today! So I’ll start reading again from tomorrow onwards, because I still have a few days off :) I’ll have a look tomorrow which prompts my planned reads fit. Great job so far everyone!

@Abbie don’t worry about sounding ‘stupid, you’re really not! It’s a lot when you’re first starting out, and we don’t mind answering questions at all :)

Hope you had a lovely holiday, and thank you I appreciate it, I don't want to let a team down but I have been hovering for a while but since the baby doesn't really sleep I just read to pass the time but my brain definitely isn't working as well as it can x

message 40: by Wolf (Alpha) (new)

Wolf (Alpha) | 3155 comments 13 left to finish the first board and we’re knocking out 3 within the next few days that are Buddy reads. We’re doing great!

Glad to see you Danique! Hope you had a great vacation!

message 41: by Karen (new)

Karen Barber | 13066 comments Easy to forget we’re only at the end of week one. Im aiming to try and read at least one book for each category through the month, but if necessary I’ll focus on filling gaps as we move on.

Danique van Dijk (daniquevdijk_) | 7793 comments Mod
Thanks guys! I did have a great vacation, but sadly my flight is getting more and more delayed, so that’s an annoying ending for sure 😭 It’s 2,5 hours delayed at this point, hoping it won’t become more again

message 43: by Abbie (new)

Abbie | 1154 comments Look into compensation policies for the airline my mum was delayed coming home from turkey years ago and they got 400 per person as it was over 4 hours x

Danique van Dijk (daniquevdijk_) | 7793 comments Mod
Damn that’s a lot, will definitely look into that! I’m scared they’ll say it wasn’t long enough or something lol but I also really don’t want it to be longer

Lily Crowley | 8 comments When they say graffiti/safari/ditch do they mean if you can find it in the authors name, series name, and the book name or does it mean if it is in the authors name, series name, or the book name?

message 49: by Karen (new)

Karen Barber | 13066 comments Those just need to have the letters featured in the title/series/author’s name.

message 50: by Lily (new)

Lily Crowley | 8 comments So than would the grandest game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes have any of them?
