The classic fantasy....

Gorgeous music and pictures, Valerie. It was longer than I prefer, but those elements kept me involved.

Athanasios (athanos) | 60 comments Way too long, sorry to say Valerie. The whole thing could've been done in under a minute. Nice pics though, music is fitting, the font choices could've been better but not bad. I would always end with your cover though, leave them with what you want them to remember.

Song of the Fairy Queen"

By the time I'd finished watching the trailer I didn't want or feel I needed to read the book. There is a problem with book trailers becoming like an episode of a tv series - I think the best book trailers tantalise and tease the potential buyer. To the extent that they feel the have to buy it to satisfy their curiosity. After the trailer I feel I know what is going to happen - probably I'm wrong but the emotional need to buy and read isn't there.

Plus did I see wrong or did Morgan age dramatically in the book trailer from a handsome 20 something into a 40+ guy? That was confusing.

The pictures are all lovely and the music suits. As something to watch and enjoy it is great - but it doesn't make me want to move on to the book.

Duane Simolke (duanesimolke) This is a new trailer for The Acorn Gathering: Writers Uniting Against Cancer.

I edited that short story collection and wrote four of its stories.

message 562: by Lori (new)

Lori Strongin | 26 comments haha, blowing that sucker up was the highlight of my summer! The long shots didn't look so good (since it was only a cheap $12 balsa wood thing we bought on ebay), so we went with the close-up.

After we were done burning it (and *not* setting the grass on fire), we found we had one last explosive left and two boxes of marshmellow Peeps left over from a previous shot (that we later edited out). So we put the Peeps around the burnt-out husk of the remaining first story of the house, doused them with citronella fluid, and set off the explosive we lovingly named the Insta-Crater.

Those Peeps shot Sky High.

We dubbed that section of footage Peepocaust '10.

Smiles!
Lori

Did you make the video yourself? I'm always interested in what programs were used, where you got your clips, etc.

message 568: by Henry (last edited Nov 29, 2011 03:41PM) (new)

Henry Mosquera Henry Mosquera @Mountainmama: I did. I used iMovie to edit the images and create the titles. I used Adobe After Effects for the animation at the end and I created the music using GarageBand. The clips I bought from a number of stock image banks online and a few I got from public sources. Most of the sound effects I recorded and synched them using iMovie. A lot of the clips didn't have sound or I didn't like the ones they came with.

iMovie must be extraordinary. I've seen several that people have done with it. I use a free program, Windows Live Movie Maker, and it's very limited. Of course, I've never been convinced that trailers sell books, so can't see much sense in putting a bunch of money into them.

iMovie is pretty basic, but it's easy to learn (I never used before creating the trailer) and get's the job done.

That's an interesting question. I don't know how effective a trailer is in regards of book sales. Even though my trailer has generated some sales, I see it as just another marketing tool.

Thank you! :) No, a friend of mine put it together (the cover was yet another friend) for me. It was her first attempt and I think she did a fabulous job. I did find all of the elements for it, though... the music, pictures, etc. But even my small attempt at the technical end was disastrous. :) Glad I have friends willing to take the reins.

Keith McArdle (varangian) | 19 comments Athanasios and MM, thanks for the comments, I appreciate it!

I used MS Windows Movie Maker to make that so I don't know if it'll allow me to add a dark glow around the text, but I'll have a look.

If that's Windows Live Movie Maker, you probably won't be able to add any glow, but you can at least make the font a little bigger.

Priya you have some compelling music and great pictures, but most of the text was difficult to read. It was either too small, blurry, or had too much other stuff happening to read it. It runs a little long, so you might want to simplify a little.

Suki, I like it for any price! Perfect length, great clips, very readable, music matches the mood, etc.

Did you make it yourself?

message 584: by Suki (new)

Suki Michelle (sukimichelle) | 83 comments Thanks M-Mama! We used Ghostwriter Extraordinaire. It was $50.

I tried one myself with Windows Movie Maker, but no matter how menacing and intense I tried to make it, the more hilarious it turned out.

message 585: by mountainmama (new)

mountainmama (jcallenbooks) | 413 comments I've never heard of Ghostwriter - I'll have to look into that. I've just used Windows Live Movie Maker because it's free, but you're really limited. I can usually make it look pretty good, have most trouble with fonts - theirs just aren't very readable for some reason.

Here's an example of one I've made for The Hunt by Linell Jeppsen (totally free):

I want some of the WOW special effects I see in other videos!! I can't really justify spending any money on them though, because I'm not sure they ever sell the first book!

Here's another favorite I made for a friend for Blank Slate by R W Graves:
